An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

I don't usually write reviews but in this case I have to. I have been using these springs for about a year now and they work exactly as advertised. I carry a truck camper on my truck from March until November. Once I loaded my camper the truck sagged very noticeably. I tried the Roadmaster Active Suspension (don't waste your money) before I discovered the Timbren springs. The Timben springs installed easily, eliminated the sag and gave the truck a much more stable ride because it eliminated the side to side rocking in the back. If you are thinking about getting these, you will not be disappointed.

2012 FordF-250 Super Duty

I read the recommendation to another buyer and decided to try this product on my 2012 Ford F250 Superduty. I needed help for my 25' goose neck trailer. EASY to install. Worked perfectly with 15K of hay + 6K of trailer weight. The rear of the truck barely set down on the factory overload springs. Empty ride does not seem to be affected as the Timbren pads do not contact the overload stops.
Thanks for a perfect solution without great cost and installation hassle!

2016 FordF-250 Super Duty

After one year the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System has performed as
advertised. My 2016 F-250 does NOT squat with the fifth wheel trailer attached and the ride quality with trailer attached has also improved. Springs arrived quickly and took about 30-40 minutes to install. Excellent Product for towing!!!

2019 Nissan Leaf

The Timbren rubber springs are a great addition to the truck 2013 Super Duty Lariat Crew Cab 172" 4x4. The truck has the 20" wheel option which requires the factory to place a 2" leveling block up front. That makes the truck level of course, taking away the rake, however in doing so makes it look like it's squatting when loaded. Before installing the Timbren springs I loaded the truck with a pallet of pellets and the wheel well sat at 38 5/16" from the ground. After the installation the same load was placed in the bed and the wheel well measured 39 9/16" from the ground. The Timbren springs saved over an inch of squatting meaning more weight on the front for steering and breaking. The ride improved from the motion of the ocean leaf spring ride while pulling our travel trailer to a more smooth but firm at the same time feel, a better ride than empty which does not engage the Timbren springs. This product is the fraction of the price of air bags and far less complicated/ less parts and things to go wrong. One of the original bump stops gave me a hard way but wasn't too bad. I installed the Timbren springs 19 March 2016.

Jesse M gave me expert advice and answered all my questions regarding the Timbren rear suspension enhancement system. I ordered the Timbrens and it took me a little over half an hour to install myself. I absolutely love the way the Timbrens leveled my sagging truck and greatly improved the stability of my ride. I carry a 2003 Northstar tc1000 pop-up camper on my 8ft bed. I highly recommend the Timbren rear suspension enhancement system. I attached a before and after photo.

by:

After a year these suspension supports have been put through the ultimate test from pulling a 35 foot bumper pull RV and a fully loaded 28ft car hauler not to mention all of the landscape supplies loaded in the bed of the truck. In all the situations I absolutely had no problems with sag or sway. With no load my truck had the same ride as factory. Very pleased.

Tim

Have worked these suspension supports hard and they have done the job and held up well. Get a little bit of squat when I put a full load on but that allows for better ride when unloaded. They make my truck very stable when towing and that’s the main reason for them in the first place.

2012 FordF-250 Super Duty

Here are some pics. I installed the timbren could in about 20 minutes and put them to work the very next day pulling my LE3505 Weekend Warrior Fifth wheel. My 2012 F250 power strike was sagging horribly before purchasing these coils. The coils make the truck perform like a one ton & rides wonderful! Thanks for the opportunity to not have to install Air Bags!!

Looks like a well made product. Was easy to install and together with the new gas shocks I installed, It took care of the sag I had when loading my 2-up quad and toy hauler. Thanks Timbren for a great product!

FordF-250 Super Duty

The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System was easy to install and works very well with our 5th Wheel attached. With no load in the bed of the truck (F250 Super Duty) the ride is a bit stiff, but with a load or with the 5th Wheel in tow the ride is very smooth and the Truck no longer dips in the back.

2012 FordF-250 Super Duty

I installed these on my 2012 Ford F250 because I have two friends who have them on their trucks and they pull a travel trailer and a fifth wheel camper. I was impressed with the difference it made compared to my truck and camper Parked next to theirs'. I am mechanic and I see no reason why anyone would have trouble installing these them selves. Clean off the Nut and end of bolts before trying to loosen. Spray some WD-40 on the threads. Put on some gloves and use a 15mm wrench to loosen factory nut. Be sure to hold up on the factory bump stop because it has a line up pin that keeps it from turning as you loosen the nut. The driver side is a little more aggravating to get to because of wiring harness but there's plenty of room to use a wrench first then a 3/8" drive rachet and short extension with a good 6point 15mm standard depth socket will speed up removal. Then installing the new parts is a breeze. Just follow directions or etrailer videos on YouTube. Took longer to remove factory bump stomps than to install new ones. Maybe 45 mins total on original ones maybe. Then after preassembly of new ones, it took maybe 20 mins to install completely. Give yourself 1:30 hrs of time and enjoy your truck not sagging around town when loaded.

I have had zero problems with the Timbrens on my truck. I have pulled our camper and several tag along trailers hauling equipment and parts. They do exactly what they are supposed to. Saves on sag by over an inch. No complaints here.

by:
2013 FordF-250 Super Duty

I ordered the Timbren Suspension Enhancement Kit on Monday and received it on Wednesday with the standard shipping. (Free on orders over $150.00). This is the third order from etrailer.com and every order has been expedited quickly and received before date quoted. All my orders have been correct and good quality. I installed the Aeon Rubber springs on my 2013 F-250 4x4 Diesel in about 20 minutes just like the video showed. With my truck bed loaded with supplies and bumper hitch trailer hooked up, my truck bed is just a hair below level; before it squatted a couple of inches. The road test will be tomorrow.

by:
2014 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty

Installed the Timbren stops as instructed. Total time was about 30 minutes. The installation would have been half that but one stock stop was tough to remove due to rust.
I'm very pleased with the looks of the installation, quality of the product and the service from etrailer. I'll report back next week after I hitch up to my 5th wheel but I do expect everything to be good.

by:

Just installed these so haven't had a chance to put them to use. We have a 5th wheel RV and was told by a mechanic that these will stop the rear end sag and also help with any sway problems.
Also need to really give a big cheer for etrailer, very friendly and fast service! Thanks etrailer!

by:

They work great! Keeps my F-250 level when pulling my 37 ft fifth wheel. No more headlights shining in the trees.

by:

Product is as advertised. Not as versatile as airbags but not as much to go wrong with as airbags either. Nice compromise. etrailer was awesome from ease of finding product that fits my F250 to quick shipping and informative installation video.

2012 FordF-250 Super Duty

I installed these on a 2012 Ford F250 that we use to pull our 3 horse slant with weekender package. I attached the trailer and measured the rear-end sag, then installed and measured again. The Timbren package raised the truck 1 1/2 inches. It also seems to help stabilize the truck around curves. I installed them in about 30 minutes. I have pulled the trailer several times and can tell a definite improvement. There is no difference in ride when not pulling a trailer, since they do not touch the spring stops.

by:
2013 FordF-250 Super Duty

Excellent quick shipping. The install on my 2013 F-250 was very straightforward and quite easy. Product seems very well made. Just as mentioned, they sit about 3/4 inch from making contact while the truck is unloaded, so does not affect the empty ride. I have not towed with them yet, and am looking forward to seeing how they handle the load.

by:
Nissan Leaf

The system works well while under load with a gooseneck or bumper pull trailer, however when unladen the ride can be bumpy as there is not a lot of Gap between the leaf springs in the timberland rubber shocks. The system works for us because we usually haul with this truck. If you use your truck as a daily driver with no load an air bag system would give a more comfortable ride.

by:
2013 FordF-250 Super Duty

Seems to be very strong and stable. I look forward to all the future rv trips.

This product is basic and will get the job done, however, a set of airbags will give you both increased support and improved ride quality. I recommend trying the Firestone Ride-Rite Red Label Extreme Duty Air Helper Springs part # F2703. If you want to operate the airbags inside the truck you can use the Firestone Air Command I part # F2097. You could also try the Roadmaster Active Suspension system part # RAS3611-SHD as long as you do not have a factory overload spring. If you do have a factory overload spring then part # RAS3611-SLHD is the one you will want to use.

  • What Would Cause Trailer Sway After Installing Timbren's on Ford F-250
The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TFR250SDG which is a fit for a 2012 Ford F-250 should not cause any trailer sway issues. They can actually reduce this as they reduce body roll in the tow vehicle which would then carry over to the trailer as well. That said, the springs reduce sag/squat so if this then caused the trailer to sit nose high that could then in turn lead to sway but there are not many other things I can think of that would cause this. I recommend ensuring...

Yes, you can still install the Timbren Springs # TFRTT350F on your 2013 Ford F-250 without the raised stop like you have seen in the images you found. I have included an image below which shows their other Kit # TFR250SDG for your F-250 on a truck without this device so the bump stop will be contacting the axle. • Timbren Suspension Kit For 2016 Ford F-250 Towing 5th Wheel with Sag in Suspension
The Timbren kit part # TFR250SDG is a confirmed fit for your 2016 Ford F-250 and would do a great job getting rid of the sag you mentioned when towing your 5th wheel trailer. The big advantage this has over air bags is that the install is easier and you never have to worry about air leaks or maintaining/checking air pressure. It's very much a "set it and forget it" type solution which is why we recommend it over the air bags.
