An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

I purchased the timbren rear suspension system for my F150 to assist with towing my boat. The install was easy and only took about 30 minutes. After installing day to day driving had no change, while towing my boat got rid of any noticeable sag in the back. Overall these are well constructed and I am pretty sure they will last the remaining life of the truck.

by:
FordF-150

Worked great on my f150 truck pulling a heavy loaded 24 ft enclosed car trailer full of furniture 900 miles.
Running truck without the trailer it does feel stiff on curbs and pot holes. May remove them until next heavy load. I DO HAVE SPACE BETWEEN THEM. Still touches easily.

Easy to install and works great. Keeps the truck level with a load on and definitely takes out the suspension jump when there is weight on. Overall very pleased.

Installed these on a 2014 F150 and love them. They don't effect the unloaded ride quality and improve the trucks stance when it is loaded or towing.

by:
2014 FordF-150

Incredible !!! Great product !
Installation
took about 15 minutes and the difference is just incredible, I tow a 10,000 pound trailer with an F150 and the drop on the truck was only the clearance from the Timbrens to the axle .... They handled all the load with no sag on the back of the truck! could not be happier and 100% recommend for towing hauling....
Full disclosure they will effect your normal ride when hitting large pot holes or bumps and cause a little sway but they work perfectly for what I purchased them for !!

by:

Installed in minutes without taking wheels off of my 2014 FX4. (Assemble rubber on bracket in vice, then install on frame). Can be done. Simple and effective. Well worth the money, couldn't imagine towing my HT fifth wheel without it.

I have not installed them yet, but everyone that has a set of these timbren suspension systems swear by them. I now have a 22 ft travel trailer to tow with my F 150 and these should help with the weight on the truck. Will let you know more when they are installed.

Great stopped the sagging suspension and swaying

by:

After owning the Timbren spring system for over a year I can only say that these are the "Best". We tow a fifth wheel and there is a noticeable difference with regard to height of the truck and when cornering. When not towing the truck rides as though nothing has changed and rides the same as when originally manufactured. I would highly recommend the Timbren system. Installation was extremely easy.

Solid customer service, hand down! Keep it up etrailer.

by:

While towing, they perform flawlessly! They give the additional support needed to eliminate my truck from squatting while hauling loads or pulling our camper! Makes the truck feel more stable in corners as well. The ONLY “complaint” I have is that when the truck is unloaded, the ride is VERY rigid. I drive my truck daily, and the rough ride isn’t enough for me to remove the kit, but it’s definitely very very noticeable and much more harsh! But, I rate them 5 stars for how they perform while towing and/or hauling.

by:

After over a year since installing the Timbren suspension enhancement system on my F150 4x4 I am pleased with their performance. I have a 10K LB Car Trailer that I pull. The truck sits more level now verses the rear squatting down and the front lifted. The trailer tracks very nice now, which provides an increase level of control and comfort. The only thing you need to monitor for a good ride is to make sure you don't load the back end of the truck down to the point where there is a small gap between the Timbrens and the axle. When this happens you can experience a bump in the suspension when you have rough roads. Overall I would highly recommend these.

by:

Completely satisfied, would not have another truck without this setup installed

Worked great for the Ford F150 while I had it! I used it in combination with the RAS to support pulling my trailer.

2010 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

this is a super product. This is my 2nd set of Timbren "overload springs". my first set was on my 2002 trailblazer and this set is on my 2010 Ford F150. In both cases, it has kept my vehicle perfectly level (I measured) when I loaded up with lumber, cement, sand, or any other heavy cargo. it works just as advertised. this time I loaded it up with 500 pounds of water softener salt to give me some traction through the winter. It works a lot better than Sam because I can use it up throughout the year. 10 years ago, the installation on my trailblazer was a little difficult. This time on my F150, it was a piece of cake. However, I tried for an hour to install one without removing the wheels and couldn't do it. So I got out the floor jack and jack stands (yes, I'm a little lazy at 67), pulled the 2 back wheels, and it took 20 minutes total, including pulling the wheels and putting them back on. great product and good service from etrailer.com.

by:

These work as advertised and do a great job of preventing the back end of the truck from dropping too low when hauling or towing. When pulling our 8000# trailer the truck ride is relatively level. I would prefer they were maybe a 1/2" to 1" shorter so the unloaded suspension would have a bit more travel. With a cap on the truck there is less than a couple of inches of travel before the stops are hit and it does make the ride more harsh. I knew this would be an issue with these. They are considerably less costly than airbags with zero maintenance concerns.

by:
2010 FordF-150

I ordered this product to assist the suspension on my F-150 so it did not drag as much when towing and that is exactly what it did. Overall the install was pretty easy. I ended up with about a finger width of room between the bottom of the spring and the axle after the install. If I would have put the spacer in it would have been riding right on the axle and would have affected the every day drive. I may try it on a test run when towing. Before the install the back end of the truck would sag 7 inches at the hitch and 4.5 inches at the fender. After adding the springs the back end now sags about 4 inches at the hitch and just under 3 inches at the fender so basically it cut the sag to about half!

The fast shipping from etrailer made this a great experience!

by:
2012 FordF-150

I purchased a kit for my Ford F150 mainly for towing, the kit was super easy to install but was a bit rough for my liking at first. The problem appeared to be that I run my truck bed loaded with a few hundred pounds most of the time so the kit was much closer to the axle and would tap the spring bumpers when I hit minor bumps. I removed the 1" spacers and things work great now, no problems and it keeps my truck more level and eliminates me having to cringe when the loaded rear end hits a dip in the road. I think the kit provides a good safety net by spreading the load onto more points of contact. Good product, but could use different spacers of a variety of thickness to personalize the kit to the load of the truck as everyone buys these to address a variety of weights and issues.

  • Using Existing Timbren Springs on a 2013 Ford F-150 FX4 wit ha 4 Inch Lift Added
The original kit that you have # TFR1504D for your 2013 Ford F-150 should have come with a couple of spacers so then you would need three of the 1 inch spacers per side for a total of 6 spacers, # A25723-90AH00. That will equal to 4 additional inches to match the lift you have on the truck. You will need to source longer bolts locally to compensate for the increased height.
