Installation

This sturdy, steel rack mounts securely to the bottom rail of your open utility trailer. Just line the towers up, approximately 3 feet apart, to determine where on your trailer you will need to drill. Then attach the pre-drilled towers with Grade-8 bolts (not included). This rack system is not designed to be welded to your trailer.

Be sure to face the rack toward the outside of the trailer for easy access to your trimmers. This configuration also leaves the bed of your trailer open for lawn mowers or other landscaping equipment.

Mounting Trimmers

Locking Trimmer Rack

To use the rack, simply place your trimmers or Weedeaters horizontally in the hooks. The hooks of one of the towers have integrated steel hasps. The steel hasps are designed to open a full 90-degrees for easy access. To secure your trimmers to the rack, just fold the hasps over each trimmer and lock in place with the included padlocks.

These were a bit of a puzzle to install on my Carry-On 5x8SPW (Tractor Supply branded) and required some effort to get done, but turned out nice. My life was saved by some anodized black braces I found at True Value (see photos). The best ones were 7.5 x 1.5 x 1/8 and fit inside the uprights to form a foot. The photo also shows how we had to cut a notch in the E-track to accomodate the foot. For attaching to the rail I used the 2.4 x 3 x 1/8 braces since there weren't enough of the other in stock. Both of these braces were also available in a heavier gauge. My electric trimmers were awkward to fit in and I was concerned my employees would break things trying to get it right so I added some yellow nylon loops from a muck bucket to grip the handle end (wrapped around the handle, then the two loops held by the latching side of the rack) and that has worked great. I have more photos but was only able to figure out how to upload one.

This is still working great a year later. Although I bought the locks with it I ended up using a bright orange carabiner to secure each one instead. The trailer is stored inside when people arent using it so that was the best compromise between security and practicality.

by:

Great product, nice addition to my equipment trailer. Helps keep equipment organized and out of bed of my truck. Only complaint is the locks are a little cheesy. Price was great and delivery was fast . Easy to install.

Trimmer storage brackets are great, once you install them on your trailer you will probably wonder why you didn’t get them sooner. Great addition to my lawn equipment trailer.

After reading previous reviews was concerned about the trimmers being too close to one another and having to remove the one above it each time. But get the feeling that they built these using equipment very similar to what I'm using. The fit is snug, not too loose nor too tight. Just about right. Also has a clean finish. Nice touch with the locks, although very little security it does offer a small degree of deterrence. The locks are more like keepers then anything else.

Do you really have to remove all trimmers to take one off?

Hi JakeSorry about the confusion. No it works fine. I can take any off and put on without trouble. The fit is just right. .

Are the trimmers loose and able to spin around when in the rack or are they tight to where they can not spin around and move?

by:

Went on easy, well made, low cost, the padlocks are junk just buy a master lock set keyed alike.
I read some reviews and people say they have to take all the trimmers off to remove just 1 trimmer,
This rack is made for the passenger side with the trimmer head to the rear of the trailer, If you want it on the drivers side the trimmer head will point to the front of the trailer, Install it right and you will have NO problems at all. It works great and looks great.

Purchased another trailer needed racks for trimmer/edger. This one works great. I have two foot mesh sides so had to adjust the placement some to work for my trailer. Supply your own nuts, washers and bolt - I used 1.5 length and they worked fine. Supplied locks are okay you may want others. Overall a great rack for the price.

by:

Rack were easy to bolt on. I like the design, very simple, very sturdy. Pad locks seem pretty good; time will tell.

How did you mount the base on the holder to your trailer?

Patrick B.

6/20/2013

I have sent an email to John about your question. Keep an eye on his review. If he responds, it will appear below his original review. We recommend using Grade 5 or higher bolts, nuts and washers. These will be available at any good hardware store. Using a thread-locker, like LocTite products, would be a wise idea as well.

I just started a lawn care business and just installed the Pack'Em Trimmer Rack. It was installed easily and seems very sturdy. The only negative thing i would say is that it doesn't come with hardware for installation but other than that it works great. The trimmers fit in nicely and don't move around. Great product and would recommend.

by:

The product was shipped and delivered beyond on time. The trimmer racks were easy to install on my trailer. It took me a max 10 minutes to set up.

by:

Still standing strong

Great product! Great customer service! I will be installing Pack Em racks on all our trucks & trailers!

by:

Not really what I was looking for, Trimmers have a tendency to spin in the clamped position

I have gotten in contact with the manufacturer and they have responded that they have Replacement Foam for the PK-6. We will be sending you some replacement foam.

by:

Good sturdy rack. Used for one season of cutting grass. The foam on the rack where the handles of the trimmers rest wears down and the trimmers will wiggle and bounce the more to use it. But it keeps them secure nicely on my trailer.

by:

I've been using this for a year now and have no complaints whatsoever. The locks are pretty much junk, but at this price you can afford some better ones if you need them; I use carabiners as I don't leave my stuff unattended.

by:

Very happy with the shipping time and durability of the racks. Wish mounting hardware would have provided.

by:

Inexpensive, quality product, shipped fast and secure. Attached easy, look and works great! Work like it if the etrailer team would include some stickers, maybe on the next order?

by:

Very sturdy and easy to use, the locks that come with the rack are not the greatest quality but those can always be upgraded and don’t take away from the quality of the rack itself.

by:

I've had these for a while now. Almost used them the entire season and part of last year. I hate these personally. They don't have enough room between trimmers so its almost a battle getting one out, you have to have something through them to close them. Even if its going down the road you can just rest it in there and go to the next house. The trimmer line holder is so close to the rack that you can't use a standard roll of trimmer line like Gatorline, Stihl, Echo....or anything that I have Tried honestly.

My biggest concern is that in the rear mirror when I hit a bump the entire assembly teeters back and forth and I can watch my trimmer heads bounce even with them as far apart as you can make them. Also I my handles are all being cut up from the trimmers flopping around in the weird shaped holding clamp.

I'm probably going to throw these away and buy some [name brand high-security]. I say throw them away because I wouldn't want someone else dealing with my daily frustration./

So my update, I replaced them with green touch racks. Gave them to my work and everyone stopped using them within a week. These need to be better made for xx.xx$.

by:

It's a lot better than throwing the trimmer in the back of my pick up.

Off the floor of my truck is less wear and tear on my trimmers.

by:

After receiving the product I looked at the installation and decided to improve on the installation because 1 bolt does not do enough to secure the system to the trailer. I installed 4 inch U bolts to the risers and secured the system onto my trailer. I will install additional u bolts tomorrow to ensure that they don't move. I will remove them and place them on my new trailer when I purchase it. I will purchase additional products to secure my equipment to my trailer in the near future from etrailer.

No issues at all. Great product. Would definitely buy again

by:

Very good product. I have ordered 3 in the past 3 years, one for each trailer. They do their job very well and easy to install. With the rack now on the trailer the guys will no longer be dinging the side's of my truck up and that's a very good thing. Thanks and keep making good products.

It’s working out great, good product.

by:

Great product and great service! The first one they shipped was stolen off of my porch and they immediately took care of the issue by contacting UPS and shipping a replacement. I got the rack the other day and am very pleased.

The rack has held up extremely well the included locks have proven to corrode somewhat easily but still work great after I lubricated them. Everything has been outside for a year.

by:

These racks are awesome for the price. The rack is designed to mount on the curb side, motor towards the truck. That allows each trimmer to be removed individually. If you mount it on the street side(drivers side) the angles are all wrong and you have to remove the trimmer above it to get the lower one out. Installed on the curb side, you place the trimmer in the rack, head above motor at about a 40* angle, rotate motor end over the clasp and it slips right in. On Street side, the MOTOR must be above the HEAD to get the head in the rack, and it interferes with the trimmer mounted above it.

As for spinning in the rack,my Echo with the New-type handles (rubber over plastic and the solid safety trigger, not the open paddle) they do not rotate at all. The handle fits perfectly in the clasp and the trimmer sits rotated to about 2 o clock. On a side note, this is a perfect position to fill fuel on the Echo trimmers as the cap is straight up and not at an angle like if you fill on the ground.

I can see adding some strips of innertube on the clasp end to prevent any scratching, if that thing bothers you.

The finish on the rack is second to none. It is a VERY tough hammered type finish that has handled 3 sharp-edged heavy American brand locks banging against it for 2 weeks on washboard-pothole-filled-northeast roads and hasn't shown a scratch.

The pre-drilled mounting holes are nice, if you can use them. I couldn't use the top hole as it interfered with my top rail, so I drilled another hole about an inch lower on it..... IF you HAVE to drill a hole, use a NEW bit, LOTS of lubrication and the right Speed for that bit. I used a BRAND NEW Irwin brand metal cutting bit and it had a hard time. The steel they use is not your typical chinese steel. It is some tough stuff, but I'd assume it has to be with the forces acting on it.

Like said in other reviews, use Grade 8 hardware, not stainless. The forces on the rack are HUGE when fully loaded(although it handles it fine) and the weakest link WILL be your hardware mounting to the trailer. Use Stover-type locking nuts and grade 8 bolts and washers, not whatever happens to be in your bolt bucket.

All in all, you can buy one of those other "namebrand" overpriced racks with locking blocks that mount to your trimmer and sealed hardened complex locking mechs....that you have to buy an extra part to keep your trimmer motor from breaking off.......Or you can spend 1/3 of that, buy this rack and add another trimmer to your fleet with the savings. Or take the wife out to dinner and dancing. That's probably the better choice. :)

I ordered this rack to get my trimmers organized in a neat way instead of taking up floor space in my truck or trailer.

Racks are easy to install and seem very sturdy. Only hardware you will need is bolts, lock washers, and nuts to mount the towers to your trailer. I used Grade 8 3/8" bolts. I have a pipe top trailer so on one of the towers on the top I used a U-Bolt to attach it to the pipe rail.

I like having 4 locks that use the same key, there isn't much to the locks and they could be broke pretty easy I am sure but it would at least slow a thief down. You could always get a 4 pack of locks at a hardware store that are beefier.

The only thing so far I see that I don't like is that the trimmer will rotate while on the rack. If you put the trimmer in up right and drive it might be sideways or about upside down when you get back out of your truck. I plan to put some foam on the clasp so that when it is locked it will pinch the handle of the trimmer tight so that it shouldn't rotate.

by:

I like how it locks individual! That’s what I was looking for and the decals was extra !
