Built-In Offset for Dual Applications
This tire-and-wheel assembly is designed to be used in dual-wheel setups. The 5.35" offset allows the wheel to be positioned closer to the trailer frame when used as the inner wheel of the setup. And if you use this assembly as the outer tire and wheel, the offset ensures that it will sit closer to the outside of your trailer. This hub-piloted wheel centers on the hub, not the lugs, and it requires the use of flange nuts (sold separately) for installation.
Durable Acrylic Enamel Finish
This wheel has a durable acrylic enamel finish on the front. The finish is applied after the wheel goes through an environmentally safe zinc phosphate pre-treatment and is coated with an e-coat primer layer. Compared to powder coat finishes, this finish resists getting chipped from flying road debris or scraped from hitting a curb for a longer period of time. These acrylic enamel wheels performed for more than 1,000 hours in salt spray tests.
Provider radials are constructed with double polyester cords and double steel belts for increased durability and endurance. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation. Provider radials are bake tested - a process usually reserved for automotive tires - to ensure that the rubber holds up over time.
Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.
Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Today we're going to take a look at this Provider ST235 85R16 Radial Trailer Tire in a Load Range G on this 16 inch Vesper Silver Dual Wheel with the 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now this tire wheel assembly is designed for dually trailers. You can see the wheel they use as a high wheel offset, and that allows the assembly to be used as either the inner or the outer wheel of a dual wheel setup. Has a high offset.
The opposite on this is 5.35 inches, and it's either a positive or negative depending on how you use the wheel, inner or outer. And the offset is always measured from the center line of the wheel to where this mounts onto your trailer. So if it goes this way, it'll be positive, it goes the other way, it'd be negative.Now this is a nice heavy duty sturdy steel dual wheel, has the four hand holes you can see here. There's two right up here, two right down here. So total four, and it does use a silver acrylic enamel finish to resist chipping and other damage, better than the powder coat finishes.
Basically this finish is applied after a zinc phosphate pre-treatment and then an e-coat primer layer. Gives you excellent corrosion resistance, has a salt spray rating of more than a thousand hours and the center disc portion of this wheel, this whole center disc here, it is spun form from fine grain steel. And as you can see, it's welded into place all the way around the wheel for strength and durability. And this wheel is a hub piloted wheel. Basically what that means it's going to center right on this pilot hole diameter right here, so when you put this on your trailer, this wheel is going to center by fitting exactly into this hole.
And that's a 4.88 inch pilot hole diameter.Now because of that, it does require the use of 5/8th inch by 18 size flange nuts for installation. Those are not included. We do sell those separately on our website. They're part number 95188 and they're usually listed on this product page as a related product.Now the tire that's on this wheel, it is a radial tire. It is constructed with double steel belts, double polyester cords for nice long life.
It's great for highway use. They do use a nylon tread firming belt overlay around the tire to prevent tread separation, and they even offer tread depth bars in here like you'll see on passenger car tire. That gives you a quick visual indication of how your tread is wearing. The tire itself is bank tested to ensure that the rubber holds up over time. And as we mentioned, it is marked as an ST tire, which is special trailer tire, has the sturdy sidewalls so they can handle the heavy loads. And it is created specifically for trailers. It's not intended for use on any other vehicles.Now this whole assembly does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation specifications, and it will exceed the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Now the wheel itself, the diameter inside the inside is 16 inch diameter on the wheel. The width on just the wheel is six inches wide. Bolt pattern on this wheel is a 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern. And as we mentioned, it does use the flange nut size of five/8th inch by 18. Weight capacity on just the wheel by itself is 3,860 pounds. We mentioned the pilot hole diameter is 4.88 inches. And the tire size, which will be stamped on the sidewall, ST for Special Trailer, 23585R16. The R means it's a radial design tire.Section width on this tire is going to be 9.3 inches. Overall diameter from the bottom to the top when it's inflated is 31.7 and its tire is a load range G which means it's a 14 ply rated tire. So the maximum load for this when used in a dual tire application is 3,860 pounds at 110 PSI.Last thing I do want to mention is most all the new trailer tires are coming through with speed ratings on them. And a speed rating is always designated by a letter designation. So on this one, if you look after the size, you'll see two numbers for the load index. And then the letter M. Speed rating M will mean this has an 81 mile per hour speed rating.But that should do it for the review on this Provider ST23585R16 radial trailer tire in a load range G on this 16 inch Vesper silver dual wheel with the 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

Just got the tires and rims. They look good but what year were this tires mfg. DOT 10U. Does that mean they were made in 2010? I sure hope not!!

Product is fine, over a month past original estimated ship date is too much. I asked for a small credit or discount in return, and I was denied.
I was very disappointed to see that only the outside of my wheel was painted white. When mounted on my motorcycle trailer, both sides of the wheel are clearly visible. Unbelievable that the miniscule savings afforded by skipping this step is considered justified. I am now stuck, of course, because the delay to exchange or return it would be unacceptable.
If this is indicative of the quality I should expect from etrailer, this will be my last order.
