I think the lift kit is a very stout piece of hardware. I'll be installing it on Friday on an Airstream camper. Will give an update on how well it fits after the install. I gave 4 stars because the packaging could be better - almost lost some bolts or nuts. The delivery person had to tape it all up - must have fallen in travel and busted open.

I ordered this kit in mid-May after seeing an email about it from a competitor site to etrailer.com. I ordered from the other site then got an email stating that the kit was on back order from Dexter until the end of June. I googled the Dexter part number and found that etrailer.com also sold it, and even better, etrailer was offering free freight and a slightly lower cost. Since the kit is heavy, free freight would save me about $40, so I cancelled the order with the first company and re-ordered from etrailer.com. I got an email from them as well about the extended back order but then, I also got a follow up call from them explaining the situation. The call was an extra added touch that I appreciated. Then, right at the end of May, I got an email stating that my Dexter kit had shipped, so I figured that etrailer.com must have put some pressure on Dexter to get off their butt and ship it! The kit itself was great, really well made parts, powder coated and heavy gauge. Honestly, I am surprised that they sell it for only $150. The install is tricky and will take you 6 hours if you are good with tools and like wrenching. Don't attempt this project on your own if you are not. Pay a trailer guy $400 to do it. You have to keep the axles aligned when you drop them...and the bolt placement is not great so you have to have hands that can fit in the tight cramped space and be able to get a wrench on the. Over all, I am very happy with the lift, it was a pretty simple and cost effective way for me to get better clearance for my Airtsream.....Airstreams are notoriously low and with the approach I have from my street to the driveway, I constantly battled dragging either the hitch or the rear. This kit solved that. I am super satisfied and highly recommend it if you are in the same situation as I was. Buy it from etrailer.com, they have the best customer service I have experienced when buying trailer and camping items on the internet.

The lift kit has worked out very well. I notice that things I. The trailer bounce around a little more since I did the lift but overall I am still glad I did it since I no longer worry about dragging the rear end of the trailer when entering or leaving my driveway. Very happy with my purchase!

by:

Well, once installed this kit is great, no noticeable difference in towing, big noticible difference in clearance. Installation is another matter entirely. The kit needs to be engineered with the right bolts that don't turn when tightening the nuts. There is just no way to get a socket or wrench on them to hold while tightening to the prescribed torque. I had to weld little tabs on most of the bolts in order to make them work. This would be an easy fix in manufacturing but an absolute pain in the butt when installing. Just doesn't make any sense at all. If I were etrailer I'd tell Dexter to fix these or sell them somewhere else.

by:

I ordered this kit for my 27' 2023 Airstream Flying Cloud. This kit does NOT fit, as the kit's c-channel comes in direct conflict with the belly pan shielding the holding tanks of the trailer. Shame on you, etrailer, for selling me a pert that doesn't/can't fit.

These kits are not necessarily RV specific as much as they are axle specific. This kit fits with tandem, #11 Torflex axles with 4,100-6,000-lb capacities. Otherwise the measurements will be off.

by:

The package arrived with a tear and the hardware bag busted so a washer was missing. Contacted trailer and they sent out a replacement right away.

by:

It did exactly what I wanted it to do. It raised my trailer enough so I could fit bigger tires and up to now, eliminate bottoming out backing into a driveway with a small incline.

by:

I had read other reviews about poor quality paint on the product and I was a little worried. When it arrived the paint was fine. Installation wasn’t that hard - my only problem was that my brake wiring was run through the bracket so I had to cut the wire and rewire..
Great product and I would highly recommend.

This lift kit gave my new Airstream Basecamp needed clearance to navigate terrain to reach more remote camping locations. etrailer staff helped me select the correct kit for my axle. This DIY project saved me significantly over the manufacture installed option. A great upgrade.

by:

This gave me enough lift that I no longer drag the rear of my trailer when going in or out of my steep driveway. It also buys me some ground clearance for the sewer drain coming from underneath, as this is a cargo trailer I’m converting into a toy hauler camper. It was a simpler job than I expected too! With the trailer connected to the truck, I parked one axle on a set of blocks so that the tires for the other axle would be off the ground. Remove those tires, loosen all 4 bolts on that axle, but don’t remove them yet. Put your Jack under one side of the axle and remove only that side’s bolts. Use the Jack to lower that axle side down enough to get the spacer in, install bolts, and do the other side. Watch the brake wiring! Put the tires back on, park the trailer on the newly lifted axle, and do the other axle. The instructions come with it. It took me 2 hours doing it by myself. Would have taken longer if I would have had “help”!

by:

This is an easy way to raise your trailer, airstream camper or other dexter axeled trailer. I have installed 3 of these on my trailers. The extra clearance is excellent and there is nobalignment issues all bolts backbthe way it was originally from the factory.

Product arrived 3 days later than estimated. When I lifted the package washers were spilling out of the box. Three stars for the great assistance I received from customer service and because everything was there and no damage to the product. Subtracted two stars for sloppy packaging.

by:

This kit worked great to lift my atc trailer. i needed more rear ground clearance.
The added height was just enough.

The kit does move the axle about a quarter inch ,
I think this is the difference between the side mount holes and the top holes in the #11 axle

Shipping was fast as usual with etrailer

Thank you

by:

Always helpful and trustworthy regarding their expertise so that I order the correct parts. I'm always surprised at how fast my shipment arrives. Thanks everyone!

by:

Easier install than I expected. A little time consuming but got it done myself, saved a lot of money by installing it myself.

by:

This is the second one I have bought. Love that it helps our trailer get a little more ground clearance.

by:

This lifted my 27 drive Airstream so I ride more level and don’t worry about bottoming out. Installed by local RV shop familiar with Airstreams at shop rate.

by:

Easiest install of a lift kit, better than imagined for a 5th wheel camper

Great modification to slightly lift our 2018 Airstream 28QB. The kit was a pain to install - suggest welding some tabs to the bolt heads as there isn't room to hold them with a wrench. Modified several wrenches to get it to stop spinning, but the tabs would have greatly facilitated the job. On our model trailer had to drop the pan under the black and grey water tanks to get the kit installed, modified the pan to fit better than before after the axle lift. Did one axle at a time while driving the other onto boards to lift it. All worked out well, but I can think of more fun ways to spend the day.

Still working great. No regrets. Spoke to Dexter rep. about welding tabs to bolt heads. He said they are hardened Grade8 bolts and welding would weaken them. So maybe need an alternative to hold bolt heads where wrench wont reach....

by:

The lift worked well.It installed fairly easily( I am a mechanic). With the appropriate selection of wrenches and sockets, it can be done. This was installed on a 29' Excella, and I haven't bottomed out the trailer since.

by:

One of the best purchases I’ve made for my Airstream. Stress over bottoming out in sketchy situations is greatly diminished with the additional 3 inches of lift. I was able to install it myself (with the help of my son-in-law) in about 3 hours total. I don’t have a tandem axle but it was no problem finding a buyer for the second set.

A year later and I still consider it one of the best decisions I made for my Bambi.

This is a great upgrade I did to lift my Airstream. The upgrade kit is simple but the actual installation can be awkward, so you should probably do it with a buddy, plan the steps, and take your time to make sure you do it right and avoid potential injury. Make sure the trailer is totally secure with redundant support because you will be working underneath it and you will be torquing bolts in tight spaces. Don't rely on a single jack stand and you'll probably want to use a floor jack to gently lower the axle down once you have unbolted it. Instead of jacking the trailer up, we built two ramps out of stacked 2x8 boards (and plastic ramps) and we backed the trailer rear axle onto the ramps, leaving the front axle free enough to pull the wheels off, then we supported the trailer with jack stands as a safety precaution in addition to the ramps. We kept the trailer hitched so that the tow vehicle would serve as a big brake, keeping the trailer from potentially rolling. We used floor jacks to lower the free axle, installed the new brackets, and then repeated the process for the other axle. btw, this is a good time to check your break lines/wires, as we found one had severed and we repaired it. Make sure you have a torque wrench and make sure you adjust the hitch height if necessary (we did) to match the lift. Depending on your trailer frame and axles, your experience may be different but fitting the brackets and mounting hardware was awkward and tight and required some physical dexterity. Also, when tightening the nuts and bolts to the correct final torque settings, if you are the guy underneath on the inside you'll want to have an "escape plan" for your hand (and wrench). That's it!

A not so easy modification to our Airstream Classic 33FBT. With the help of a friend, we were able to complete the install in less than 8 hours. The Airstream belly tanks make access a little tougher that your average cargo trailer.
The biggest benefit was having every possible option in wrenches, sockets, crows foot, and tools available. It did require lifting the Airstream and placing it on jack stands, then working one axle at a time.
It is not an easy install, but worth it. The dealer wanted $2500. to complete it. I cost us, the kit and a few meals. I should not one individual will be on their back the whole time, you need one person under it and one at the wheel well.
We did not notice a huge difference in towing, as Airstreams are lower riding anyway, there inches did not make a huge difference in our profile, but made a huge improvement to our approach and departure angles.

Great product, if you have the right tools.
