How to Determine What Axle Lift Kit to use on a 1978 Airstream Land Yacht

Question:

Im not sure how to determine the weight of my airstream. The gvwr says 5800 but when I look it up it says dry weight is 4005 and hitch weight is 670. which do I go with in determining correct lift?

The correct lift kit is going to depend on the axles that you have on your 1978 Airstream Land Yacht. The weight rating is only going to play a part of the role. You will need to figure out what axles you have on your Airstream to get the correct lift kit.

For example, the Torflex Lift Kit (for tandem axles) # K71-724-02 will work for Torflex #11 axles that fall between 4,100-6,000-lb capacities, but there are other weight ratings and other brands of torsion axles. Because of the age of our Airstream I cannot be sure what axles you have. Airstream trailers manufactured towards the end of 2005 to current use the Dexter Torflex axles, but prior to that there were other manufacturers and a period of time when they used leaf springs. If you can take a look at your axles and let me know what axles you have, I would be able to make a more certain recommendation for you.
