Sonically Sealed, Waterproof Trailer Light

The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.

Very disappointed in the brightness, especially considering the price. I replaced my older incandescent backup light on one side only to compare. The old light lit up the area behind the trailer MUCH better than the LED light. The LED light is much more directional and the old light more like a flood light. If I got down on at eye level with the lights the LED light appeared to be only slightly brighter. The incandescent of course had a much warmer glow but it lit up the back of the garage much better than the LED. I installed the backup lights a couple years because I wanted an assist light when backing the boat in the dark. I'll keep these ONLY because I want to match the LED tail lights that I just installed. I am much happier with those so will keep both (STL22RB). Bottom line, at roughly $40 a piece I expected much better when compared to the incandescent lights they replaced. Definitely NOT worth the money in my opinion.

We have noticed the same. These 36 diode versions are using much older LED technology and have less light output than some of the newer 10 diode models. Part BUL10CB will provide much more light output than this unit, and it even costs less. These older LEDs offered a reduced amperage consumption, but not a brightness increase over their incandescent counterparts. Newer LED technology consumes less and outputs more than the incandescent equivalents.

Used for backup lights on horse trailer and hoped they would double as loading/staging lights. Adequate for backup only. Expected more from that many diodes at that price. Well-made product that should update to easily available higher performance diodes.

Remember, DOT regulates how bright a back up light can be. Since Optronics builds this as a back up light, it will not be any brighter than reverse lights are allowed to be under DOT regulations.

Worked great and had them in their spot in ten minutes

I am extremely happy with the replacement LED light I received so I can replace my old incandescent fixture!

The light were just what I was looking for, bright, clean looking and good price.

by:

The boat ramp I use has no lighting and I was hoping these LED backup lights would be bright enough to show me the way. The light from them is diffused quite a bit and not as directional as I had hoped.
They are still brighter than the ones I had before. I then bought some reflective cones to put on the edges of the ramp and they light up real well and can be seen from quite a ways away.

by:

Great set of reverse lights. Shipped within two hours of ordering. Great customer service.

I have these lights wired to a toggle switch and they still work fine. I would not mind if they were brighter, but they still light up my flatbed well enough that I can hook up a gooseneck trailer in the dark. I have ordered other products from etrailer and the customer service is still great.

by:

Ordered and received items fast. Installed as backup lighting on my boat trailer. Connecting was easy and lights work great.

by:

works swell as a backup light on my parent's Polaris ranger.

by:

Product has replaced the old single bulb...nice and bright in the dark...if your current gasket is in good shape and still flexible it is an easy in and out replacement with a small screwdriver...

by:

Great replacement for my halogen that kept burning out with this sealed light.

by:

Disappointed there is no Template and no instructions on line or with the items.

by:

Need exact hole size to cut. Trial and fit took forever. Have not had a chance to try it out backing up my dark driveway.

by:

Product was as described, shipped quickly. Functioned well after
I installed them.

by:

Real clean Look

by:

Bright!

Makes a great backup light for my Jeep project. Can't wait to see how well it works at night in the woods.

  • What Is The Amperage Draw On The Optronics 55-Watt Halogen Utility Light # QH16CTS
The amp draw is 4.5 amps per light on the Optronics 55-Watt Halogen, Multi-Directional, Area Utility Light # QH16CTS. If used on your 2004 Chevy Silverado you will need to use the Draw-Tite Wiring Kit # 118151. This kit will allow you to run a separate 12 gauge wire with a 10 amp in-line fuse to the positive side of the vehicles battery. This will keep the lights from drawing power on your factory wiring harness which could cause problems. You will also want to be careful when installing...

  • What is the Brightness Output of the Optronics 6-1/2 Inch LED Trailer Lights
Optronics uses candelas to rate the brightness of their lights instead of lumens and the output of the Optronics 6-1/2 inch Oval LED Back Up light, # BUL52CB, is 175 candela. At a distance of 1 foot, the candela output is equal to the output in lumens. This light has the highest candela output of any of our 6-1/2 inch oval LED lights. The LED 10 diode light, # BUL72CB, has an output of 123 candela and the LED 10 super diode light, # BUL78CB, has an output of 125 candela. Another thing...

  • What Size Hole Will the Optronics Light part # BUL52CB Install Into
The easiest way to cut the oval hole for the Rubber Grommet, # a70gb, that would be used with the Optronics Light part # BUL52CB in my opinion, would be to use a Light Mounting Bracket for 6-1/2 inch Oval Trailer Lights, # BK70BB, as a template and then use a hole saw the correct size to cut a hole on each end of the mounting location. Then, use a angle grinder with cut off wheel or a reciprocating saw with metal cutting blade to cut the straight top and bottom sides of the hole. The correct...

  • What Gauge Wire to Use to Install the 6-1/2" Oval LED Trailer Back Up Light # BUL52CB
The wire gauge used in the recommended pig tail # A45PB for the Sealed, 6-1/2" Oval LED Trailer Back Up Light # BUL52CB is 20 gauge. So I would go with that as the minimum. The light uses LED's which hardly draw anything.

  • Are Optronics LED Lights Quality Lights
Lights like the # MCL31AB and # MCL31RB are cheap but that is the nature of a small clearance light in this style. I wouldn't really expect better performance from any other brand. I know it happens, but we don't really see complaints about the lights burning out. Optronics lights are backed by a lifetime warranty on the LEDs so a light like your # BUL52CB is covered under and can be replaced. For the clearance lights I would try switching to the Thinline LED Clearance and Side Marker...

  • Do I Need Resistors When Installing the Optronics LED Backup Light item # BUL52CB?
No, you shouldn't need a resistor like item # DI34ZR when installing the Optronics LED Backup Light for Trucks or Trailers item # BUL52CB. I say shouldn't because if you're installing these lights on a trailer your tow vehicle should supply plenty of power for them to function correctly. If you're installing these on a vehicle for additional lighting you will most likely need one on each light. To install the Optronics LED Backup Light item # BUL52CB you will want to use the PVC Grommet...

  • Is Optronics # BUL52CB Back-Up Lamp Submersible
The # BUL52CB lamp you referenced might work for the purpose you describe, but a bracket like part # BK70BB and grommet, part # A70GB would be needed. You would also need the wiring pigtail, part # A45CB. The lamp draws a minimal .275 amps at 12.8 volts. The lamp is submersible, but the contacts at the rear where the pigtail plugs in would be vulnerable to moisture. If you decide to go this route, I would recommend keeping the contacts well coated in dielectric grease, part # 11755 to...

At a distance of 1 foot, the candela output is equal to the output in lumens. The next brightest 6-1/2 inch oval light would be the part # BUL22CB which has an output of 160 candela. The part # BUL10CB that you referenced has a candela rating of 125 which would make it the dimmest offering which I would not recommend...

  • Need Bright Backup Light on Boat Trailer for Nighttime Use
We do offer a super-bright LED-type backup light that is fully submersible, part # BUL52CB from Optronics. This 36-LED light uses a 2-wire pigtail # A45CB for connection and can be mounted using rubber grommet # a70gb along with steel bracket # BK70BB. LED lighting combines high-efficiency with high light output and this unit should serve you well without placing much additional load on your trailer wiring.

  • 12 Volt Interior Light Recommendation for Lighting Up Work Space
I have a similar solution that will work for you, but the light you mentioned won't have the Lumens you need. The Optronics LED RV Interior Light # RVILL34 has 2 ratings. The raw output, unobstructed and in testing conditions the light can produce 920 lumen. The effective lumen output in real-world scenarios is 815 lumen. But the watts are low; 1.22 at 815 lumen. This also has an easy to use switch on it for you to use.

  • Comparing Brightness Ratings of Optronics LED Tail Lights
The Optronics LED Backup Light # BUL22CB is brighter than backup light # BUL10CB although I would not describe it as significant, though that can be subjective. Optronics measures the brightness of their lights using candelas and the # BUL10CB has a candela rating of 125, while the # BUL22CB has a candela rating of 160. There is also the backup light # BUL52CB which has a candela rating of 175. The reason I would not classify the brightness as significantly higher is because these lights...

  • Parts Needed to Add LED Backup Light to Trailer
Hello, in order to add a LED backup light to your trailer, you could use a setup like the LED Trailer Back Up Light, # BUL52CB, with Rubber Grommet, # a70gb, and Mounting Bracket, # BK70BB. You will also need a 7-Pole Trailer Connector like the # PK12706 to be able to connect to the 7-way on your 2011 Mercedes-Benz ML550 and additional wire like # 16-1-1, which is sold by the foot, to connect the new backup light. First you will need to cut the 4 pin flat connector off of the trailer...

  • Recommended Backup Light Similar to the Optronics LED Oval Trailer Tail Light
The Optronics LED Backup Light part # BUL52CB will work great as a backup light and can be used in conjunction with the Optronics LED Trailer Tail Light part # ST70RB. They are both oval in shape and have a high diode count so they will be very bright.

  • is there a Certain Amount of Time LED Trailer Light BUL52CB Can be On
As you probably already know, LED lights draw much less power than regular bulbs. They also do not get as hot so you can have them on longer without worrying about them burning out. There is no official amount of time the lights can be on. As far as which would work better as an interior dome type of light, I would go with # BUL52CB because it has more diodes which would produce more light than # BUL22CB. With either light you will also need a pigtail # A45CB and a grommet, # a70gb.

  • Installation of Extra Reverse Lights on 2006 Ford F-250
The amp draw is 4.5 amps per light or 9 amps for 2 lights on the Optronics 55-Watt Halogen, Multi-Directional, Area Utility Light # QH16CTS. With that much amperage draw I would not recommend to connect them to your factory wiring harness. It could cause overloading problems and damage your vehicles wiring harness. If you want to install the 55-watt lights on your 2006 Ford F-250 you will need to use the Draw-Tite Wiring Kit # 118151. This kit will allow you to run a separate 12 gauge...

The Sealed, 6-1/2 inch Oval LED Trailer Utility Light, Flange Mount, 10 Super Diode - Clear, item # BUL78CB, does not meet DOT FMVSS 108 requirements, for backup lights so it cannot be sold as a backup light. That does not mean that the light cannot be used in that situation for applications where a DOT requirement does not need to be met. • Recommendation for Utility/Work Lights Installed in Toolbox to Light Rear of Truck
I have several lighting options for you, but a trailer reverse light, like # BUL52CB that you mentioned, is not going to provide you with the light you are looking for. To provide you with light at least 8 feet away, I recommend going with a utility/work light. For mounting flush inside the toolbox as you mentioned, the best option will be the Vision X LED Light Strip # XIL-SL12. If you are looking for a round backup light then I recommend part # BUL53CB but if you are looking for an oval backup light then I recommend part # BUL52CB. Both of these backup lights are completely submersible. The round light has 36 diodes with a 275 candella rating and the oval light has 36 diodes with a 175 candella rating therefore the round light will be a bit brighter than the oval light. • Can I use a Halogen Spotlight as a Reverse Light to See Better Behind my Horse Trailer
These will certainly provide enough light. My concern would be that they provide too much light and would considered rear-facing headlights. There are DOT restrictions about how bright rear-ward facing lights can be so as drivers behind you are not blinded. The Custer Halogen Light you were looking at does not comply with this regulation. I would suggest instead, using brighter reverse lights. We have several backup LED lights that will be brighter than standard incandescent lights, but...
