Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.
Slipper leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. The eye of this spring will attach to the front hanger with a suspension bolt. The slipper end of the spring will slide into the rear hanger. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the slipper end will slide into the equalizer that connects multiple springs. The shape of the slipper end of a leaf spring may vary slightly due to differences among trailer manufacturers. Because of this, it's important to check your leaf spring's slipper end before purchasing a replacement spring.
To mount this spring, you will need hangers, a suspension bolt, and possibly a spring keeper bolt, depending on the design of the rear hanger. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer, but it would be wise to replace the bolts as they can experience wear. It is also recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.
If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Dexter 30 1/2 inch long six-leaf slipper spring with the flat end for 12,000 pound trailer axles. Now, this slipper leaf spring will act as part of your trailer's suspension system. Provides the attachment point for your trailer's axle. This does use multiple leaves you can see here that allow flexibility to absorb road shock.
This one has six leaves. It does allow for a nice, smooth ride, it reduces wear and tear on your trailer, and it'll ensure level ride on bumpy and uneven surfaces. Now, to install this, it does require pre-mounted hangers or aftermarket hanger kit for installation. Those items, we do sell separately on our website. Basically, the eye of the spring right here on this end will attach to a hanger that's mounted on the trailer frame.
And on this end, this slipper end will slide into a hanger or an equalizer. This is a sturdy steel construction. If you notice in the eye right here, it has a rubber bushing with the steel sleeve in. It's all included, installed in there. The eye diameter of that steel sleeve is one inch.
Few specs on this, it's for a quantity of one leaf spring. The spring capacity on this one is 6,000 pounds. It does use, it's used on an axle that has a capacity of 12,000 pounds. Now, I give you, I wanna give you a few measurements on this. I wanna give you the length of the spring and the way the length is measured.
It's measured from the center of the spring eye to the end of the spring. So, if we take our tape measure and we go center to the very end of the spring eye is 30 1/2 inches long. And then the other measurement is the axle location. The axle is gonna fit right in the center of the spring here. So, the measurement for the axle location is from the center of the spring eye to the middle of the spring. So, center there is gonna be 13 1/2 inches. And the width of this spring is three inches. Includes rubber bushing with 1" inner diameter.Usually you are completely on top of your game. This time my company is slightly disappointed in the timeframe of events. We stock checked all parts prior to ordering but then found out after the order was placed some were not in stock. Nobody reached out to let us know the parts were out of stock or asked if we would like to have the rest of the order shipped while waiting for the remaining out of stock items. Once we called we were able to get things moving however the shipment still was not expedited and took an additional extra five days.
