Hello everybody, this is Jeff at "etrailer.com". Today I'm gonna take a look at this Dexter Tandem Axle Trailer Hanger kit for 2 inch wide Slipper Springs with a 38 inch axle spacing. Now this leaf spring mounting kit will include the equalizers, the front hangers, center hangers rear hangers, all the hardware you need for installation. Now the equalizers in this kit right here these are 13 and 1/8 inches long and that allows for 38 inches between the two axles. And this kit is designed for use on, with the 9,000 pound Dexter axles. Basically this will let you attach four 2 inch wide slipper springs to your trailer frame.
Now the springs are not included, those are sold separately. Also, one note I wanna mention is on the product page of this part number at the very bottom of the page there is a table. And that table will show you the dimensions needed to determine the locations for these hangers where you install them at. Zoom in over all the parts here, it includes these two 13 and 1/8 inch long straight equalizers and just wanna measure them for you, so you can see. 13 and 1/8 inches for the length.
These equalizers will allow for 38 inches between the axles. They do have the 1 inch right here diameter center hole for mounting to the hanger. And then over here they have the 5/8 inch diameter side hole for attaching to the spring. Now I've laid this out sort of from the front to the back. So these are the front hangers.
The front hangers are 5 inch tall front hangers with the 5/8 inch diameter bolt holes. Now on hangers, when we say the height we're not talking overall height. The measurement for the height of a hanger is measured from the center of the hole to the top of the hanger. So if we go center to the top you'll see there's your 5 inch height measurement. The center one's right here these are 4 and a 1/2 inches tall.
Have 1 inch diameter bolt holes. And same way, if we go from the center to the top there's your 4 inch or 4 and a 1/2 inch overall height for the center hangers. And then the two rear hangers are 6 and 3/8 inches tall. Come with 5/16 diameter bolt holes at the bottom. So if we do that center, there's your 6 and 3/8 inch tall measurement also comes with four 3 and a 1/4 inch long by 5/16 diameter spring keeper bolts. Two right here, two right over here. So total of four of them with the lock nuts. Also comes with the four 4 and a 1/2 inch long 5/8 inch diameter spring eye bolts with lock nuts two here, two right over here. And then right here comes with the two 5 inch long 1 inch diameter equalizer bolt with the lock nuts for that. Now this does not include any components from mounting your axle to the springs. But that should do it for the review on the Dexter Tandem Axle Trailer Hanger kit for 2 inch wide Slipper Springs with 38 inch axle spacing.

Leaf-spring mounting kit includes 5" tall front hangers, 4-1/2" tall center hangers, 6-3/8" tall rear hangers and hardware. Equalizers are 13-1/8" long. Designed for use with 9,000-lb Dexter axles. This kit (a dual kit) changed my view of Dexter as a quality-first manufacturer. etrailer simply sells it, they don't make it, so they aren't to blame.
This kit is made specifically for mounting Dexter's General Duty 9,000 lb axles in tandem and is different from kits made for 3500 to 8000 lb axles. It provides extra axle tube to frame clearance to accommodate the 4" axle tubes used on their 9k and 10k GD axles. It uses beefy 7/8" equalizer pivot bolts and 5/8" spring eye bolts. So far, so good. Until you pay over $350 for it and receive a suspension kit with absolutely ZERO lubrication provisions! Seriously, Dexter?!! The bolts provided are all just grade 5 hardware store plain jane dry bolts. Not even grade 8.
Dexter sells 7/8" greaseable "wet bolts" and even their lighter-duty hanger kits include greaseable wet bolts. But even if I paid etrailer the nearly $XX apiece they want for them (they're half that price elsewhere), there is literally no way of putting a square-shouldered carriage-style bolt, which they are, in the round roles this hanger kit was manufactured with without modification. As for the 5/8" spring eye bolts, only a great deal of internet searching will find any wet bolts the right diameter, and they'll be the wrong length. Those 4 bolts are about $20 each plus shipping.
So, by the time I pay a machine shop to square the equalizer bracket holes on and buy all the wet bolts, or have them made, JUST so I can lubricate this expensive hanger kit in hopes of it lasting more than a very short time on a trailer that often grosses 20k, I'm going to have over $500 invested in it, not counting all the extra wasted down-time. This kit was supposed to solve my trailer suspension problems, not create more. FAIL!!
I purchased the 7 leaf sliper spring to replace my old ones. etrailer had all the parts needed to rebuild my trailer. The parts fit perfectly. The people there are very knowledgeable about the trailer parts and what is needed and what will fit when replacing old worn parts. I would stronly recomend etrailer for any of your trailer needs.
