Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

etrailer.com Technical Support

Easy installation if you follow the instructions. So far everything is just as they claim. There is also a video available on YouTube. It's so easy that this regular DYI dad did it. I will test it out in a couple weeks

by:

Installation was very straight forward, the instructions were clear and I had no issues with it, especially for the price. Very shortly after getting this installed I was rear-ended and while the vehicle was totaled the hitched looked fine. I never actually got to use it so I can't comment exactly on in use but it seemed stout and worked great for my bike rack in my driveway.

by:
2008 Mazda5

Followed the instructions in the installation video and completed install by myself in about an hour.
Installed hitch with swagman bike rack.
Installation video and online info at etrailer.com had all I needed to know. Thanks

Just a quick note, if only using one bike, it should be in the trays closest to the vehicle. If using two bikes, the heaviest should be closest to the vehicle.

Product arrived just as described! I have ZERO car knowledge but UHaul wanted to charge me $140 for installation, and I was not about to pay that. I don't have a car lift and with the help of my wife we were able to install this in about 30 minutes (it probably would have taken less time if I had a better drill and didn't have to stop half way through to recharge the drill.) The hitch is solid steel so trying to hold it up and put the bolts on by myself was a little tough, hence enlisting my wife to help. I'm also not the strongest person in the world, so you probably could get away installing it on your own. The etrailer videos are really helpful and the only tool I had to buy was a 1/2 inch drill bit to widen the existing holes in the steel bumper. That cost me about $10 on Amazon. If you don't already have a 1/2" drill bit make sure to buy one that is designed to go through metal and not wood. I haven't yet attached my bike rack to this yet, but so far so good!

by:

I was very happy to find a site with products tested to fit a Mazda 5 -- it's not your typical car or SUV. Hitch seems very well-built and fits fine. Had some trouble getting one of the bolts to slide down the bumper bar into the hole, even with the great fish wire you provided, so I ended up bumping it along with an electrician's fish pole I had and it went in.

Shipping was fast, install took less than 30 minutes. It fit perfectly on my Mazda 5

The hitch fit perfectly on my Mazda 5. The posted video in e-trailer was very useful and the installation went eventfully. I am very please with this hitch. I am still looking for the right bike rack to add with this hitch to try it.

by:

First. Everything was in the trailer hitch package that you need. It only took about 1/2hr to install.
2nd. The wiring harness was a little more difficult, because I had to remove the side back panels. The plugs were exactly what was advertise everything fit perfectly. I would recommend this product to anyone. By the way it took about 2hrs to install the wiring. Not hard but teadious. Anyone can do it.

2008 Mazda5

I have had my Draw Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver for a year now and am as please with it today as when I first got it. Installation on my Mazda 5 was a breeze and it functions as advertised. I primarily use it to hold my hitch mount bike rack but I have towed with it a couple of times. No problems. Would recommend this product to anyone with a Mazda 5. Service from etrailer.com was quick and efficient and added to my overall satisfaction with my hitch.

by:
Mazda

The hitch was easy to install, and looked and worked great. The problem was that the trailer I bought the hitch to pull was a bit much for the Mazda 5. I have a cargo trailer which the car pulled fine up to about 60mph. Above that, the wind resistance was a bit too much. It felt like pulling a parachute. I’d recommend towing a flat trailer like a motorcycle trailer or some other low profile trailer.

We purchased a hitch for a 2008 Mazda 5 recently. Initially, it said the item would be shipped about ten days after purchase, but when I asked if it could arrive before Labor Day, they changed the shipping for free so we would receive it earlier - thanks! My husband and his friend installed the hitch in about 40 minutes even with the directions being unclear and breaking a drill bit. (The video definitely provides clarity, but you have to be willing to watch it.) Overall, it was a great experience, and I would highly recommend etrailer.com as an auto accessory provider!

I have a 2010 Mazda 5. I'm about average with using tools, but his trailer was very easy to install. I had to buy the right size and type of drill bit, but it was much cheaper than having someone install it.

The trailer itself works fine for what it's rated for. We haven't had any problems with it at all. It's holding up after a year with no rust or major wear and tear.

The hitch is still looking good after another of it being on! No rust which is awesome. Well worth the money, plus etrailer is great to work with.

by:

This item fit perfectly, and with the instructions from etrailer.com, went on without a...hitch :) in less time than indicated. Thank you for great instructions! I also ordered a cargo carrier to use with the hitch that etrailer.com didn't have in stock to deliver in the time frame that I wanted. A customer service representative contacted me and found another satisfactory product that arrived to me as needed. The service is very appreciated.

Before I ordered the trailer hitch for my2010 Mazda 5 I had some questions which were quickly answered by Michael H. a very courteous technician at Etrailer. Once ordered my hitch was received promptly and packed very well. The video instructions on Etrailer's website were extremely helpful and I was able to install my hitch within 45 minutes. I highly recommend Etrailer and would definately purchase from them again.

2006 Mazda5

This has been the best purchasing experience I have had in a very long time! Within an hour I was notified the product was being prepped and that they had for free changed my shipping from 5-7 to 3-5 days. I got it 2 days later. Documentation/Video specific to my vehicle made it so easy. The hard part was drilling the holes and my procrastination. (Got in and 3 days waiting 2 weeks to install, dohh!) Also purchased swagman bike rack which is equally awesome! Thanks to all involved with my order.

by:
2009 Mazda5

This was fairly easy to install on my 2009 Mazda 5. I did have to enlarge a few holes on the Mazda to enable the bolts to slide in, but the fit was perfect, very nice product.
The etrailer online videos are so helpful. I am able to follow them step by step for my vehicle install, makes things very simple. I tow a Northern tool utility trailer 1195 lbs GVW, tows with no issues.

by:

I received the trailer hitch I ordered very promptly. Everything needed for installation was included in the box, and it all arrived safely. The only issue I had with the installation was that the hitch had been advertised as no drilling required, but this was somewhat misleading, because it did require drilling out existing holes in the car's bumper to a larger diameter. This was no easy task, and required a large 1/2" drill bit. Once I got the holes drilled out, the installation was very straightforward and easy.

by:

My local mechanics was ready to charge me close to $300 for a new hitch with installation. I did not want to spend so much money my 4- bike rack that I only fit only twice a month. So I decided to look around, and found that Etrailer.com offered the best deal. I chose the DrawTite because of the video explaining how to install it. This was extremely helpful. Shipping was faster than advertised and the hitch arrived in 5 days.

It took about 1hour to fit it (one person). As mentioned in the video, it can't be difficult to drill through the metal, so I recommend you feel comfortable doing it yourself. Because I am not an handy person, it took a long time to drill 2 holes my Electric DeWalt 3/8 in. Besides this, the installation was easy.

The only issue found with this model is the metal ring you see under the hitch.I think it's there to protect the rack's bolt. But on the other hand, it makes it difficult to tighten it without a ratchet.
Otherwise, I've been using it for 1 month now and it holds perfectly.

by:

Fast delivery, perfect fit, great customer service.

I accidentally order the wrong trailer hitch ball and customer service called me immediately and corrected it for me.

Great experience.

by:

Super sturdy hitch, easy to install and the installation video was a great help!

Had my local garage hoist the car and enlarge the 2 holes for $25 (about the price of buying a good drill bit). They wanted $97 to install the whole hitch assembly, but I told them to just drill the holes and I saved $$ by doing the installation myself. Easy to install. Did it without hoisting the car or using ramps (once the holes were drilled).

Etrailer has great customer service… After I ordered a hitch and bike rack on-line, they were kind enough to call me within a few hours to inform me that they were not compatible. I was able to change my order before it shipped or got charged to my card, saving me a major headache. Thanks etrailer for catching my error!!

by:

These folks made sure I had the right part. I got two hitches and wiring harnesses from them, both were easy to install and work great!

by:
2007 Mazda5

Received the hitch today. It's exactly what it said it was. It installed with ease. 45min and done.

I'm using this for a bike rack and the rack fits up perfect with this receiver hitch.

If you have a drill and a wrench set you can install this without a problem. I highly recommend this product.

by:

This product was better than advertised and the installation was as simple as the video stated it would be. Etrailer was easy to work with, and got me my order quickly. I recommend this Hitch Receiver and using etrailer if you are looking to purchase one.

This latest hitch for my Mazda5 was the easiest installation yet. Under an hour
I was done. Nice hitch for the money. Good company, fast service.

2009 Mazda5

Great experience. Delivered in only two days, installed just as instructions said, fit great. No problems (although the Mazda 5 frame member was a little tougher than my drill bits. I had to step my way up to the 1/2"). You might say it installed without a hitch-sorry for the pun.

With Class I hitches you have to use the recommended ball mount for it otherwise the hitch warranty would be voided. So for the Draw Tite part # 24773 which is a fit for your 2010 Mazda 5 you would need the part # 3593 which is a confirmed fit and would work well. It has a rise of 2-1/8 inches and has to be used in the rise position. So this would get you very close to what you need and it doesn't void your warranty so it would be the best option. I do have a couple options for you but Class I hitches like the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame part # 24773 that fits the 2008 Mazda 5 are designed to only carry 2 bikes because of it's limited tongue weight rating. When you carry more than two bikes it becomes more an issue of leverage of the weight than it does overall weight.
