How Many Bicycles Can I Carry With The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 24773 On My 2008 Mazda 5
Question:
Can part 24773 hold a 2, 3, or 4 bicycle rack? What are the options for a 2008 Mazda 5? Thanks!

With the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, part # 24773, you will be limited to carrying 2 bicycles. The reason for this is because the Draw-Tite Hitch is a Class I hitch, and cannot handle the amount of torque from a third bicycle plus the distance of how far the bike will sit out from the vehicle. The weight and distance will put a great amount of torque on the hitch that could damage the hitch or your vehicle.
All of the hitches available for the 2008 Mazda 5 are Class I 1-1/4 inch hitches. You will be limited to bike racks that are compatible with Class I 1-1/4 inch hitches. A bike rack I recommend that is compatible with a 1-1/4 Inch Class I hitch is the Thule Helium Aero 2 Bike Carrier, part # TH9042PRO, as it features anti-sway cradles.
You will want to stay within the tongue weight capacity of the Draw-Tite Hitch and your vehicle. Tongue weight will include the weight of the bike carrier plus the weight of the bikes you carry.
I have linked instructions and video installation of the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, part # 24773, on a 2008 Mazda 5 that you may find as a good reference. Also linked is a video review of the Thule Helium Aero 2 Bike Carrier, part # TH9042.
