Everything arrived fine and undamaged. The install video really helps. Having a second pair of hands to balance things will help. I just used a floor jack and a bottle jack to lift things up with the two bolts that point down and are to the front already in. After lifting just get those two nuts on and fish the rest in without a problem. Like others have said, why that extra spacer / washer on the front passenger side bolt, I put it on but see no reason for it.
I would like to know why it is there.

I reached out to Curt about the use of the spacer and washer on the front passenger side bolt. The main answer is that it is there to keep the receiver at the designed angle and to fill the gap on the frame of the vehicle. I hope that this answers your question.

Thank you very much for going the extra mile and getting a reply from Curt. My dad being a millwright could not see the why for it, but now I can tell him, it is there for a reason. Thanks again I will be ordering a new carrier soon if I cannot repair my old one. The original hitch got damaged when I got hit in the rear. No damage to my escape, a scratch or two. No broken glass, no airbag deploy or anything, but you can see the hitch got destroyed. The carrier bent pretty good, going to try and do some welding, I really only use it for deer hunting, So it does not need to be perfect or pretty. The Curt hitch appears to be a heaver tube and very good on the welds. Thank You!!!!!!

It is a very good hitch and works perfect on my Escape. Customer support goes above and beyond, they replied to the question I had about the spacer in my original review without asking them about that spacer, and they are right, it is needed, so its in there on mine. Thanks for everything

After much research about hitches for my 2008 Ford Escape I settled on etrailer because of the detailed information concerning installation. I am visually oriented so having video to guide me was a huge help! In just an hour I had the hitch done! I need to use a small trailer from time to time and the car had no hitch on it. This will help me when I need to make a trip to the dump, haul off spring clean-up and get my Pelican boat to the lake. If their were ten more stars to click on I would click on number 10 for sure!

Still looks brand new even after a North Idaho winter with all the road salt.

by:
2007 Mercury Mariner

Installation was easy and the finish looks great. The only thing I would mention is that the instructions say a 2007 and later model year mariner/escape/tribute should have open ended frame rails and mine were sealed but a few minutes with some large drill bits took care of my access problem

I got it to use with those extra cargo carriers. it was pretty easy to install into the car even by myself. Ive used the rack several times and when its not being used I bought a logo hitch cover that I really like for the extra advertising space instead of bumper stickers. Ive debated towing a trailer with it but I dont have one and I havent yet purchased the lighting wire harness.

by:
2011 FordEscape

Thanks for the shipping upgrade and prompt delivery. The Curt hitch and wiring harness went on with ease just as advertised. I installed the hitch and wiring harness in my garage with the help of my 11 year old son (see attached photo). The video on etrailer.com was a terrific help. I am already looking for things to attach to my new hitch on etrailer.com. You have my business, and I will certainly pass along your web site to all in need of parts.

by:
2010 FordEscape

Not much to say- it's a hitch, and it fit! Very fast shipping, and good communication. Will use etrailer again in the future.

Exactly as advertised, easy to install with instructions and tools, high qualoty.

Just completed the hitch install. It was very easy, had a little trouble around the exhaust but no big deal. Very nice hitch and shipping was fast. I will definitely recommend etrailer to anyone needing a hitch.

2008 Mercury Mariner

This is the 2nd Curt hitch I have installed in the past two years, the other being on my 1996 F150. This one (13650) I installed on my 2008 Mercury Mariner, and I continue to be impressed with Curt products. Everything lined up perfectly and the hitch went on easily, looks great, and is way more heavy duty than anything I would ever need on a Mariner. No drill required on this one, leave it in the toolbox. I would recommend Curt hitches to anybody. My only complaint is, and this happened with both this hitch and the one I installed on my pickup, is they show up looking like they were dragged BEHIND the FedEx truck instead of inside of it. I was able to spot-paint the areas that were dinged/scratched down to bare metal, but it was very close to being returned/exchanged based on my opinion of what's acceptable. Other than this issue, it's a great product.

by:
2012 FordEscape

Install was fairly easy and straight forward. Like some other reviews, using the spacer on the passenger side did not allow the side holes to line up with the frame even when tightened, so I removed it and all bolts tightened just fine. The 2 in receiver will give me the added confidence for a loaded bike rack and utility trailer.

by:

The product arrived this is the second time I have ordered from them and the shipping box was torn and had holes in it!!! The trailer hitch was starched but it a hitch not a big deal, but you would think they would use a heavyer grade of box.

Im sorry to see that your hitch has received some scratches on it due to shipping. This does tend to happen and when it does, we recommend using a Rust-oleum type paint to cover up any scratches and prevent corrosion in the future during use. I have a link below for your reference. I have also sent this information over to our Customer Service Department for them to get into contact with you.

I installed this receiver on our 2012 Ford Escape XLT 4x4. Everything lined up perfectly. There was no interference from the the exhaust hangers. The fish wires worked great. The hardware slipped in easily from the end of the frame rails. I think it took a whole two beers from setup to cleanup to leisurely install this hitch.

by:
2012 FordEscape

Purchased for 2012 Escape XLT w/3.0 V-6. Installed it by myself today, which took a bit of planning. These are not a light weight product. Everything fit perfectly. My only suggestion for etrailer would be to cut the fish wires about 5 inches longer. They are just a tad too short to fish from the farthest bold position. I used a short piece of an old fish tape to extend mine, and everything went smoothly.

by:
2012 FordEscape

this product was as described and in excellent new condition when it arrived with in a week of ordering, no shipping charge. The hitch installed just as the instructions and the video outlined, using a floor jack I was able to install it by myself in less than an hour. looks great, solid and pretty.

by:
2011 Mercury Mariner

Product fit my 2011 Mercury Mariner just fine, install went fine by myself.

Packing was very beat up when it arrived, and powder coating was chipped off.

Better packing and I would have given 5 stars.

by:
2010 FordEscape

Very nice fit. My only complaint was the thicker recommended spacer for above the exhaust caused the bolt to extend out at an angle and not far enough. I spent an extra hour trying to make this fit and then to remove it and install a standard spacer. This one hour job took me two hours. If I had another one to install it probably would only take me 30 - 45 minutes. I installed to use with a bike rack and possibly other cargo racks down the road.

by:

Etrailer is doing things right with fast shipping and accurate information. This CURT hitch and T-one wiring harness was quick and easy to install.

by:
2005FordEscape

Instructions say installs in 30 mins for professional and 60 mins for diy'er. Wrong. This is only true if you want to enlarge a existing hole large enough of pass through the bolt and brackets by grinding the metal unibody frame. I don't like grinding because latter it will rust. Even if you paint the spot latter it's better to find another way to pass through the harware. I removed the bumper and brackets to avoid grinding. This is why I'm a diy'er, because a shop probably would not repaint the exposed metal.

by:
2010 Mercury Mariner

Very easy to do took less than 40 mins ( I did remove exhaust pipe from hanger for the install, just use some spray lube easy off, easy on) It was nice to have 2 bolt springs , one of mine got hung up & broke but having 2 in kit really helped.
I also removed the spare tire for the install was easy to do & made it easier to put on but not necessary.
I even used the box it came in to lay on the ground to do in my driveway, so easy to do without putting on a lift.

by:

Good welding, good fit, good finish, easy installation. I will use it to tow a small trailer with my '05 Mazda Tribute. I opened the frame holes with an angle grinder and die grinder for extremely easy access (my frame is boxed). It took about an hour for prep, install, and cleanup (part of every job). All told- a very good value.

by:
2012 FordEscape

I don't like to buy products on line but I did it when I needed a hitch for my excape. The hitch showed up in 3 days with regular shipping that was free. I do not have a garage or many tools I I hope it fit correctly and would be easy to install like the add said. It fit like a glove and was installed in a hr. I will tell anyone I know needing trailer products to give etrailer.com a try .

by:
2007 FordEscape

Second trailer hitch I have bought from etrailer. They have the best "how to install" videos on YouTube.

by:

Slightly more challenging than expected, but just needed to be patient when pushing the wire through to pull the bold. Holes lined up nicely and plenty of room to torque the bold.

by:
2008 FordEscape

Could not believe how easy it was to install, did it by my self, and one jack stand, finished in a little over and hour. Everything sent with it, worked like a charm and wouldn't know it 5 of the 6 bolts went together great and the last one was a bit of a pain lol but it fit like a glove and looks great!!!!!!!!!
