Will Using a Trunk Mount Bike Rack Scratch or Damage Paint on a 2008 Ford Escape

Question:

the thule bikerack for a ford escape, will the straps and clips scratch or damage paint on vehicle? If yes what to use for protection? Are the straps long enough or do we have to add extra straps for length, and what about locks for the bike rack to vehicle and locks for bikes to rack.

Anything that makes contact with the vehicle has the potential to mar or scratch the paint. You would need to make sure that the vehicle and rack are clean where they come into contact with each other. Also, a coat of wax in those areas on the vehicle will also help add some protection.

The straps are long enough to secure the rack to the vehicle. You will not need extra straps. The Thule Passage # TH910XT does not come with any locks.

Based on your concerns a hitch mounted bike rack would be a better option. You will not have to worry about contact with the vehicle and securing the rack to a trailer hitch is easier than securing a trunk mount to a vehicle.

If this is an option you want to explore then I recommend Curt hitch # 13650. This is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch receiver. for a bike rack I recommend the Swagman Titan # S63400 which comes wit ha cable lock and you can add a hitch lock using # S64029. I have linked videos of the hitch and bike racks for you.
