Despite having every tool required (including an E12 Torx socket), installing the trailer hitch took me substantially longer than 1 to 3 hours! My 2022 GLC300 was different in a couple of areas from the video. I believe the differences were because mine has the DC1 “Night Package” that includes a unique rear diffuser (the instructions call it a bumper fascia); more about that later.

If I could make one change to the installation instructions it would be to remove the muffler in Step 1 as opposed to letting it hang in the way. Every part of the job is much easier with the muffler removed from the vehicle. Remove one additional clamp (shown in photo) that holds the muffler assembly to the exhaust pipe and the whole assembly slides right out of the way. The cutout for the heat shield ended up being 3-1/2” wide vs. 3” for my installation.

One of the issues with the Night Package Rear Diffuser is the metal bumper is still covered by the rear fascia when the rear diffuser (including back up cameras) is removed. I was able to stretch the rear fascia enough to remove the bumper by prying and removing the bumper one side at a time. That was the easy part. Getting it back on without damaging the rear fascia was brutal. After hanging the trailer hitch off the factory bumper bolts, I hung the bumper by the two lower bolts with the nuts loosely screwed on to prevent it from falling. At this point the bumper was hanging at an angle below the fascia. Placing a flat pry bar between the fascia and the bumper, I was able to stretch enough space to pop the bumper up and under with a floor jack. There was no way to get a torque wrench on the top nuts, so I tightened the heck out of them best I could.

The other issue is the rear diffuser is also riveted to the rear fascia on both sides. I drilled out and removed one rivet on each side to remove the rear diffuser from the vehicle. It appears to me the rivets are an assembly aid to reduce risk of scratching the vehicle during installation of the rear diffuser. I did not have an appropriate sized rivet at home, so I reassembled mine without. I considered substituting a stainless steel sheet metal screw, but reinstalled without filling those holes. Of note is I used the “cut and try” routine to establish what size slot to cut out of the diffuser because the “Night Package” is different from standard. I included a photo of the finished cut …

BTW, investing a couple of dollars for a Torx socket set will pay off if you plan on doing any other work on your Mercedes. This is the one I have: Amazon.com: DURATECH 14-Piece External Star Impact Socket Set with Storage Case, E4 to E24, 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2” Drive Female E-Torx Torque Socket for Working with Impact Wrench, Cr-V Steel : Tools & Home Improvement

It has been a little over a year since I installed this receiver. I always remove the hitch when it is not in use as my last one got rusted in so solid it was sold with the car. I live one block from the Atlantic so the inside of this receiver also rusts where the hitch rubs inside of it. I have sanded and painted the inside of the receiver several times so far. I guess it wouldn’t rust if I didn’t use it so much! :

2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC

Customer service has been excellent in resolving damaged shipments. If vehicle is equipped with park assist there are additional connectors at side sensors that need to be removed. Also lower bumper cover needs about an extra half inch of material removed toward the side that butts up to the hitch. Otherwise instructions and video were helpful.

  • Recommended Hitch and Bike Rack for a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300
We have two different hitches for the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 depending on whether or not you have the coupe or the SUV model. I have listed both of them below: GLC 300 Coupe - Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver item # SH47MR GLC 300 SUV - Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver item # C84ER For an e-bike capable bike rack with a ramp, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Destination E Bike Rack item # HLY66ZR. This bike rack has a 70 lbs per bike capacity. It uses padded clamps that grip your bikes...

  • Towing Capacity and Towing Set Up for a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC300
I would be happy to help you find a hitch for your 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 and answer your capacity questions. I'll start by saying that the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver item # C84ER you referenced is confirmed to fit your GLC300 if you have the SUV. The capacities of the hitch are never what you want to go by. You always want to refer to your owners manual or call your local Mercedes dealership and give them your VIN and they can tell you your vehicle's towing capacity. The different...

  • What Bike Rack Will Fit On My 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC
With the Curt Hitch # C84ER installed on your 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC Class all three bike racks you looked into will work for your vehicle. I recommend The Thule Apex XT # TH9024XT. The Thule bike rack has the tilting feature which makes it easier to load and unload the bikes from the rack. It can hold up to 37.5 pounds per bike, and only weighs 35 pounds. I would also recommend The etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98881 to help with security of your bike rack. I will attach a install...

  • Trailer Hitch For A 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300
Though The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13315 is not confirmed to fit your 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC we do have a few trailer hitches that would work for you. If you have the SUV-GLC300 you will need The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C84ER. This trailer hitch has a bolt-on installation with no welding required. It has a gloss black power coated finish that is over a protective base coat that offers a superior rust resistance. The trailer hitch has a maximum gross trailer weight up to...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 SUV
Since you only want to carry your Kuat Transfer like the # KU84FR there is no need to be concerned about wiring. If you did want to install a wiring harness like the # 118747, I still wouldn't expect there to be an issue since you aren't splicing into the wiring on the vehicle. I'm not sure what the year is of your Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 SUV so I will give you two recommendations for a hitch. If you have a 2016-2021 I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e35AR. This hitch features...

  • 2021 Mercedes GLC300 Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness Recommendation
For the hitch, I'd recommend the Curt Class III, part # C84ER and for the wiring I'd recommend the Tekonsha # 119250KIT. The hitch installation is fairly involved, and requires that the bumper fascia be temporarily removed as outlined in the linked installation instructions. We don't recommend any specific installers other than our own at our facility here in Missouri, but I'd recommend having a body shop do the hitch install for you. A body shop is well versed on how to remove body panels...

  • Which Trailer Hitch Fits 2021 Mercedes GLC300
For your 2021 Mercedes Benz GLC300 the correct hitch is the part # C84ER which is the same thing as the Curt 13477 so what you have is the correct hitch. The # C13290 is not correct.

  • What Hitch Bike Rack Do You Recommend for a 2021 Mercedes GLC?
For a bike rack that fits your 2-inch trailer hitch on your 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC, it really depends on if you have heavier bikes, bikes with fenders, and the number of bikes that you wish to transport. If you have heavier bikes or bikes with fenders, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HR200Z (2-bike version) and the # HR1400Z (4-bike version). the Sport Rider SE has a maximum per-bike weight capacity of 80 pounds, and the frame attachment style of the rack will allow you...

  • Can Draw Tite and Curt Hitch for 2022 Mercedes GLC300 Install Same Way
The Draw Tite part # 76082 and the Curt # C84ER that both fit your 2022 Mercedes GLC 300 are virtually the exact same so yes you could use the install process of either and you'd be fine.
