The install videos really gave me the confidence to purchase and install the hitch myself. Although I've installed the same hitch on another car, having the videos is a great benefit. One of the bolts didn't thread on as easily as the rest but I was able to eventually get it screwed in using a socket wrench, whereas the other 5 bolts threaded in easily by hand. Thankfully the bolt isn't cross threaded. I think it was just a small measurement miscalculation from the manufacturer. It also helps that I've removed multiple Subaru bumper covers so I have a good idea of how they're assembled, but still I appreciate that the install videos are available to the consumer.

It could be a manufacturing issue, or there is a possibility that the bolt holes on the vehicle could be needing to be cleaned. I have a link below with more information on that possibility below.

I would highly recommend this.

I've bought Curt hitches from etrailer for every vehicle I owned and this was no different. This is the first time I've purchased and installed this newer style (as opposed to mounting it under the vehicle) and I would NEVER go back if I had the option. This was the easiest install of all time. Quite honestly, removing your bumper is the only part that requires any effort, and still, I had the bumper off, the hitch installed, and the bumper back on in less than an hour, including installing the wiring harness.

I bought it to be able to utilize the Ascent's 5000lb towing capacity, but right now, it's being used for the cargo carrier in my pictures. Couldn't be happier with how it all went. Also, I don't know how necessary it is, but I purchased a torque wrench for this install to be sure I was tightening to manufacturers specifications for peace of mind, which I'd recommend.

Bonus: This got to me in only a few days after ordering, and shipping was free. Can't beat that!

I installed this on my Subaru 2020 Ascent. Install was pretty straightforward and took me a couple hours along with the harness. I had a buddy help me but this could be done with 1 person if need be. Hitch has been great. Helped move over 600 miles with a uhaul trailer and no issues.

Used it for an additional move and pulling a trailer off and on for past year. Been great!

This could not have been easier. I’m so glad I didn’t pay someone to install this. Great quality product. The instructions were clear and made for a smooth install. The only thing I forgot was the electrical wiring but I called customer service and Joshua K was extremely helpful in directing me to the harness I would need.

Install on 2022 Subaru Ascent Onyx Edition. Couldn’t be more happy with everything. Delivery was fast, and the install was super easy especially following the instruction video. Everything went smooth from beginning to end. My brother helped and it took us only about 30 minutes. Really happy with the product itself but more importantly this company. Highly recommend. I will definitely be using this company for future needs.

2019 Subaru Ascent

I recently purchased a trainer hitch for my 2019 Subaru Ascent. Shipping was incredibly fast. Box came damaged, and I was worried the bolts may have been missing, but no! Even with the giant hole in the box, the instructions and hardware were securely sealed and taped to the receiver. There was a scratch from the shipping damage but it was going to be in an area that was not visible, but that’s on UPS. Everything lined up perfectly start to finish. Instruction pictures were dark but the online tutorial was great! Total time was 90 minutes, most of which was trying to locate and retrieve my torque wrench from a trunk of a locked car with a dead battery. Word of advice, even being only a couple years old, the plastic number fasteners did not all come out nicely. Have some spares on hand. Luckily, my 2005 dormant Subaru used the same bumper fasteners.

2019 Subaru Ascent

The hitch was delivered quickly, was reasonably priced, and was crazy simple to install. If it wasn’t for trouble removing my mud flaps this would have taken maybe a half hour to install.

by:

First time I have so quick process of shipping. I installed already. Instructions were straight forward.

by:
2022 Subaru Ascent

Installation instructions made this a straightforward job, etrailer's how-to video was also super-helpful. Took about 90 minutes including cleaning up and putting away all the tools.

by:

It has been about a year since I purchased this hitch for my Ascent. It has been great, it was very easy to install for me. I highly recommend it.

  • Comparing Curt, etrailer, and EcoHitch Trailer Hitches for a 2022 Subaru Ascent
The difference between the Curt # C25VR and etrailer # e55ZR trailer hitches for your 2022 Subaru Ascent is that the etrailer hitch has a matte black finish that is a bit more robust than the Curt. The matte black finish does a better job at matching black trim on vehicle as well as hiding scratches that might happen from road debris hitting the hitch. Attached is an installation video of the etrailer hitch on a 2021 Ascent for you to check out. The installation will be the exact same...

  • Comparing Curt Trailer Hitch C25VR and Draw-Tite 76253 For 2021 Subaru Ascent
You are correct that the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C25VR and Draw-Tite # 76253 you were looking at for your 2021 Subaru Ascent are very similar. They both share pretty much the same design, and both have a 750lb tongue weight rating and 5,000lb trailer weight rating. With that said I recommend going with the Curt # C25VR due to it being made here in the USA, and in our experience the powder coat finish used on the Curt brand hitches holds up the best leading to a hitch that will stay...

  • What is the Difference Between the Draw-Tite # 76253 and Curt # C25VR Hitches?
There are a few differences between the Draw-Tite Hitch # 76253 and the Curt Hitch # C25VR. First off, the Draw-Tite has a ground clearance of 23-5/8 inches from the ground to the top inside tube of the receiver while the Curt has a 24 inch clearance. Also, the Curt hitch is manufactured in the U.S.A. while the Draw-Tite is manufactured overseas. As far as quality, the Draw-Tite hitch is "Tested Tough," which means it has been rigorously tested and exceeds the industry standards for construction....

Yes, we do sell replacement hardware for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C25VR (13448). It's the Replacement Hardware Kit for Trailer Hitches part # RHK. That said, as it's only a few bolts and washers I would honesty just get them from a local hardware store as that would be much more cost effective. 6 - M10x1.25 Hex Bolts Grade 8 6 - 7/16" Conical Tooth Washers

  • Recommended Hidden Hitch and Wiring For 2020 Subaru Ascent
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver 2" part # C25VR is a fit for the 2020 Subaru Ascent. The Curt hitch is hidden behind the removable fascia panel at the rear the Subaru. When the hitch is not in use the panel can be replaced for a completely hidden clean OEM look. I have attached a photo for your reference. If you plan on towing a trailer you will need wiring. For that I recommend T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118790. The Tekonsha wiring is more reliable...

  • Comparing etrailer and Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2023 Subaru Ascent
The etrailer # e55ZR and Curt # C25VR for your 2023 Subaru Ascent are identical with the exception of the finish. The Curt has a glossy finish while the etrailer hitch has a matte black finish. I prefer the matte black since it gives it an OEM look. It also does a better job hiding inevitable dirt and dings on the hitch. If you don't have a preference on the appearance of the hitch then I would choose whichever has a lower price.

  • Suggested Hitch Option for Carrying Bikes on 2022 Subaru Ascent
We currently offer several different hitches for the 2022 Subaru Ascent. Two that are concealed that will be hidden behind the removable panel on the bumper when not in use, and two that sit below the rear bumper and will be fully visible from the rear. The Curt # C25VR and etrailer brand # e55ZR are completely identical except for the powder coat finish. The Curt uses a glossy powder coat, while the etrailer brand uses a matte finish. I will start by saying that the Anderson Rapid Hitch # AM3414, though a little overkill, is definitely a good adjustable ball mount and it will serve your needs well. To get a hitch that will handle this and still be hidden once installed on your 2022 Subaru Ascent, you will want to look at the Curt # C25VR. These hitches are all pretty similar as they all share the same 750lb tongue weight rating and 5,000lb trailer weight rating, and will all install with the crosstube hidden so only the receiver itself will be visible. • Comparing EcoHitch and OEM Hitch to Curt and etrailer Hitches on 2022 Subaru Ascent
I'll start with the EcoHitch Invisi Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7381. The price on any EcoHitch comes from the material used in the construction of the hitch. It uses a special alloy made of recycled materials and combines aluminum, steel, and stainless steel. You are right about the OEM hitch too, a lot of times they come with a wiring harness. On some vehicles if you get it with the OEM hitch the bumper may also be different to allow for an OEM look. For your 2022 Subaru Ascent that...

  • Most Concealed Hitch for a 2023 Subaru Ascent
The most concealed hitch for your 2023 Subaru Ascent is going to be the etrailer Hitch item # e55ZR. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Subaru with included hardware. I really like the etrailer hitch because it installs behind your rear bumper cover and can be completely hidden when you are not towing. This is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver. The first harness you'll need is the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C56040. • Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 2021 Subaru Ascent
The trailer hitch I recommend for a 2021 Subaru Ascent is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13400 for visible or part # C25VR for hidden. The hidden hitch will take more time to install as you haver to remove the rear bumper but it also makes for the best finished product. It's not actually as challenging as it may sound to remove the rear bumper but if you don't want to do this or don't mind seeing the crosstube hanging down below the bumper you can just go with the visible option....

I had the Curt # C25VR measured and from the center of the pin hole to the back of the receiver tube will be 3 inches. As long as the shank on your bike rack does not exceed 3 inches past its pin hole, you will be good to go.
