The hitch arrived within 2 days of ordering so that was prompt. I finally got it installed today and looks good. The only downside is I thought I ordered a Class 2 hitch so now I need to get a conversion from class 3 to class 2

Installed the etrailer hitch on our 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude in about 1.5 hours and am very satisfied. The delay wasn't anything to do with the thorough instructions and complete parts included, only to wait for a friend to come help lift the hitch into place. This is definitely a two person install due to the weight and tight quarters plus having the right sockets, torgue wrench and garage space. Would purchase from etrailer again without question. Fast Delivery, complete instructions and value will be remembered about this project. Thank you.

The muffler on our hitch vibrates in its current location & required a heat resistant wrap around this area held in place w zip ties. No problems otherwise. Should have ordered the hitch that is higher up & required a cut out of the bumper however this style would prevent opening the trunk when our carrier is loaded.

There are times the hitch may come into contact with the exhaust system resulting in an annoying rattling sound. It is possible to bend the hanger with a pair of pliers to get the exhaust away from the hitch. If the exhaust is bolted to the frame, unbolt it and reposition it. In some situations, the rubber isolators can become stretched and cause the exhaust to hang lower. Sometimes simply replacing the rubber isolator will help keep the exhaust in place. I have attached a help article on exhaust rattle.

Perfect fit for the 2019 Jeep Cherokee. Easy install with good instructions. As good or better than Jeep manufacture part. Less expensive for sure.

Perfect. Using it right now. No regrets at all.

Hitch and light kit fit and worked perfectly on my 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I watched the installation videos before the purchase and they were very helpful. Only minor issue was small amounts of powder coating chipped off during shipping due to no packing material used on the heavy outer edges of the hitch.

by:
2017 Jeep Cherokee

I weighed all the options about buying a hitch for a new model car online, and decided to buy from etrailer since I read reviews about the great customer service. There was an issue with my shipment and, in fact, the customer service was outstanding and they worked with me on a quick resolution. The hitch was installed on a 2017 Jeep Cherokee and it looks great! I was concerned that since it is not a hidden hitch it would detract from the car, but you can barely notice it. It took about two hours to unpack, read the instructions and install it. We had two people but we used a hydraulic floor jack to lift and keep in place, so it could have easily been a one person job. The instructions were very clear. Had a little trouble with torching the last bolt because of the limited room available. Buying and installing ourselves saved us hundreds of dollars. We are using it for a bike rack and a flatbed trailer. I noticed that the wrap had worn off during transit on all the edges, so maybe covering those edges with cardboard before wrapping would prevent that.

2019 Jeep Cherokee

My installation was on a 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2. No difficult with minimal mechanical skills, and having a lift and a trans jack made it an easy one person job. In addition to the existing M14 bolts, I did need to "reverse fishwire" 1/2" bolts for the front attachment holes (see photo). Before lifting the hitch in position I recommend trial fitting the bolts to the hitch and file/Dremel if clearance is needed.

Trailhawk owners will loose a lot of "departure angle" ground clearance with this under-slung hitch - see photo.

The Curt trailer is easy to install for someone who is handy.
The installation does not involve any cutting of the bumper fascia
which is great since my Jeep Cherokee is a leased vehicle.
I needed this hitch for my mountain bike rack and my Jeep gets me to those back mountain trails. Ride on!

2015 Jeep Cherokee

This was an easy install (2015 Jeep Latitude). I did almost all the work by myself (65 years old). A few blocks of wood helped. The hardest part was running the hot wire to the battery and that little self-tapping ground screw. The screw fell out of the bit holder and drop down into the body. Luckily it fell through to the ground (I should have put a rag underneath to catch it). I didn't need jack stands but I did have a 2" ledge that I was able back onto and that gave me plenty of room underneath. I'm very pleased with the results.

2014 Jeep Cherokee

Had used etrailer.com before and had such a very nice experience, so when I recently bought a new Jeep and needed A new hitch receiver, I knew where to begin. After reading the reviews and watching videos, I decided on Curt 13171. Installation with the etrailer video and directions couldnt have been simpler. Took about 30 mins to get done. A concern I had was dropping the muffler down to get to the access holes and I was able to install it without doing that. Perfect fit, functional, looks great, and priced right. Very satisfied. I cant recommend etrailer and this receiver more highly. Thanks so much.

2015 Jeep Cherokee

Curt hitches are solid and well made. Installed by myself, had to rig a wooden frame to move both sides up by jack at the same time. Fit on two bolt holes was perfect. The third bolt hole was sufficiently off so as to make reinstalling the bolt on my Cherokee Trailhawk impossible without grinding out the hole on the hitch to a larger lateral size.

by:

I have purchased several hitches from this company now and have always been very pleased with the quality of their products. The additional installation instructions and customer support is outstanding as well. Will be ordering another hitch for my son soon...

very bery easy to install. etrailer gave me all the tools i need(besides a socket wrench and socket ofcorse) but the screw wires which i was worries that it didnt come with, was included with the package!

by:
2016 Jeep Cherokee

Very happy with the hitch. Took me longer to install than the estimated time (2 hours) but I am 65 and so is my helper (wife). The directions were perfect. I purchased this so I can put a bike rack on my jeep.

by:
2019 Jeep Cherokee

Installed in about 30-45min. Just used regular floor jack on one side to give a little room to slide under. A swivel on the torque wrench may help depending on the style. The rear most bolt was a challenge to get torqued, may have been due to not having the jeep on a lift.

by:

Haven’t field tested yet, but the installation was a breeze with some minor help from my wife for her small hands. Installation videos were spot on. Ordered because I found a lady stuck in a ditch and didn’t have one single hitch point on my 2019 Cherokee. Fit test with an 8 1/2 ton shackle. Pin slides right into the hook points.

by:

The product installation description is right on. No fascia trimming or lowering of the bumper. Included fish wires worked great. Installed in less than an hour.

by:

Good quality hitch at a competitive price. Look no further.

by:

Installed by myself..used floor jack..wife helped balance it with pipe in receiver...had to remove stabilizer bars to get muffler in..easy enough..awesome product

Jeep

Arrived in under 48 hours! Installation was a breeze, only took 1.5 hours and most of that was spent figuring out where to position the lift points on my Jeep. I can’t wait to put it to use. Thanks so much!

Order processed fast delivery was quick and installation was just as promised.

great company to buy from. Prices are hard to beat. The trailer hitch and wiring harness I purchased were fairly easy to install. Their web site is invaluable in getting suggestions on installations. I am 84 years and installed my trailer hitch and wiring harness in two days, working by myself. The directions and web site made this job easy and fun. Everything is working just great.

Quick delivery. Easy instructions.Great fit. No problems.
Two 72 year old guys installed your hitch. We've learned to use our heads as our brawn is waining. My buddy has a lift, so we lifted the Jeep. We placed the hitch on a transmission jack after fishing the bolts in place. Fed the wires into the correct hitch mounting holes and lifted the hitch into place. Less than an hour and it was beer thirty.
Got home and attached my bike rack....all is well.
Thanks for a great product.

2015 Jeep Cherokee

We use this trailer hitch for connecting a bike rack and it works just as expected. No issues at all, definitely worth a recommendation. Installation was comparably easy, it is however a two man job and you need a good, sturdy torque wrench...no different than on any other trailer hitch.

After a year in the harsh Michigan climate it is still working fine. The salt in winter has caused only minor surface rust at the tip. Still works great, looks good and a definite recommendation.

  • Towing Capacity of 2016 Jeep Cherokee and Trailer Hitch Fit
Your 2016 Jeep Cherokee has a towing capacity of 2,000 lbs unless it has a 3.2L engine with the Trailer Tow Package; if this is what your Cherokee has then its capacity is 4,500 lbs according to the online copy of the owner's manual I took a look at. If your Jeep has the towing package you are likely to be able to tow a trailer on the longer side. For a trailer hitch that fits your '16 Cherokee I recommend the etrailer Hitch # e73ZR because it has a concealed crosstube and is a bolt-on...

You absolutely do not have to drill, cut, or otherwise make any modifications to the unibody or frame frame of your 2018 Jeep Cherokee when installing the Curt Class III Receiver Hitch # C13171. This is because the hitch will use existing holes in the frame for mounting. The only bit of modification you may need to do on the vehicle is loosen or remove the underbody panel/fascia during installation. On your 2016 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4x4, the rattle you are experiencing from your Curt trailer hitch receiver # C13171 could be a couple of things. It could be exhaust rattle that would require simply bending one of the exhaust hangers slightly for clearance or replacing a rubber hanger. This is because the vehicle manufacturing process does not always leave the exhaust in the exact same location on every single vehicle. The rattling you are experiencing is not common on your 2015 Jeep Cherokee, but I have seen it before.
