A snap to install

I bought a Curt trailer hitch from etrailer about 7 years ago. I just bought another one from them. When I need a new one, I'll order it from etrailer also. Excellent packaging BTW. No plastic or foam.

I frequently tow a utility trailer. The hitch is rock solid.

2009 Scion xB

I have a 2009 Scion XB with TRD exhaust. I didn't have any clearance issues around the muffler. The hitch is a high quality part. Without the bike rack in the receiver the hitch is almost invisible.
I'm very happy with this Curt hitch as well as the service from the guys at etrailer. Next project will be to install the lighting/wiring kit also sold by etrailer.

Needed a hitch for our 2015 Scion XB. Wiring kit was perfect but a problem with included bolts resolved by using 12MM bolts from a BMW?

2011 Scion xB

I installed this a year ago. I use it for my boat and bike rack. Works perfect, never any issues. Super easy install. If you can fit under your car and know how to screw in a light bulb, you can attached this with ease.

2012 Scion xB

It fit like a glove! Lined right up and came with the hardware need to install it. Fit and finish was great as well. I've had good luck with Curt products in the past and they didn't disappoint this time either and etrailer had a good price on it and good information about installation which is why I keep coming back.

Awesome trailer hitch, installed in minutes. Hides very nicely under bumper! Etrailer.com was great!!!

Ordering from website was easy. Delivery was quick. Hardest part was finding a good installer. Next purchase will be a bike rack.

Fits perfectly and video installation is a huge help. Second hitch purchased (one for my juke) and they both are awesome. Saved me hundreds literally from having to go somewhere else to get it done.

Perfect fit, super easy bolt on application. This is exactly as advertised and will reccomend etrailer.com in the future

Arrived quick, couple of tears on box but did not affect product. All hardware and and clear instructions were included. Fit perfect.

2012 Scion xB

Product arrived as promised. I liked the fact that I could keep track of where it was in the shipping process and approximately when it would be delivered. Installed it the same day it arrived with the assistance of the excellent videos of installation procedures for both the hitch and wiring. It helps to have a torque wrench and some basic wiring tools (wire end stripper and a crimping tool).
The only problem is that the hole on the retaining pin for the draw bar does NOT fit as the hole in the pin was drilled in the wrong place.

Bruce

3/15/2014

In my review I said The only problem is that the hole on the retaining pin for the draw bar does fit as the hole in the pin was drilled in the wrong place. I inadvertently did not the word not. The pin does NOT fit in the pin because the hole was drilled at the wrong angle. I had to use another pin with the hole drilled at the proper angle.

This hitch was easy to install, still looks AWESOME on my xB with only the receiver visible, and has been exactly what I hoped for to carry my Kuat Sherpa bike rack. And etrailer is the place I'll get any other hitches I'll need going forward. Thanks!

Hitch has carried two bikes all over the country, 17 states to be exact. Best looking option out there for the xB. And etrailer folks are the best. Recently got a similar style hitch for another vehicle I own and etrailer came thru flying colors again.

2012 Scion xB

Just finished installing the hitch receiver wiring harness on my 2012 Scion xb. The hitch receiver fit just like it was supposed to, and the wiring harness went in without incident. The directions in the video are a lot more clear than the written ones that came with the wiring harness. took about 2 hours total.

Actually, I have only used it once since I installed it. I have no reason to expect there would be any problems next time I use it..

The product is great! It arrived quickly and was installed in 10 mins! We love it! We would order from etrailer again.

I am very happy with the Hitch. I thought it was great that I could find the right fit for my car very easy and you had the wiring and any other accessories needed to do the job. Also great videos to explain installation. I put it on my Scion xB as easy as the video.

We purchased this product to give us added room in our xB for a trip to Disney World. It easily installed and worked wonderfully with the cargo carrier. etrailer was a big help and watched over our order to make sure it would get to us on time. I will look to them for all our future trailer needs.

One year later and everything is still working great!!!

by:
2009 Scion xB

Like the other reviews say, it's great, so I don't need to add more than that about how I like the product. I will add some information about the issues I ran into installing it. I have a 2009 xB with 77,000 Minnesota miles on it so the bolt holes were rusty. The two bolts that were removed from the tow hook were just fine but the other 4 were rusted enough that I could not get the bolts in. If you have the same situation you just need a 12-1.25 metric tap and a tap wrench for it. A regular wrench will put weird pressure on it and you may end up re-threading it, which will not be good. What I did was to use a 1/2" plumbing wire brush to first scrub out as much rust as possible. Then I squirted some WD-40 in the holes to clean them out some more. Once I wiped them out I applied some cutting oil to the tap, not that you need it but I had it, and carefully re-tapped the hole. The problem I ran into is that the muffler gets in the way of the tap on one hole so I had to push it off the hanger, which can be difficult. The method I ended up using in order to get it off the car side of the hanger was to use three 16p nails as ramps. I slid a nail in three points of a triangle under the rubber hanger so they were over the nub that holds it on. I then sprayed some WD-40 between the rubber hanger and the nails and then pushed on the hanger from the back side, from under the car, and then it popped off. Once all of the welded nuts were cleaned out it was a breeze to install by myself. Just hold it up enough to loosely thread in a couple of bolts and then you can loosely put in the rest. Once they are finger tight you can torque them and you are done. I didn’t bother with a wiring harness since it is only for a bike rack.

2014 Scion xB

The hitch fit perfectly and the wiring kit was easy to install. I used a class II hitch on a 2014 Scion xB with a Curt T-Connector 4-Pole wiring kit. I use this setup to haul an 4' x 8' harbor freight trailer and can easily make runs to home depot with loads nearing 1000 lbs. I don't miss my truck at all now.

by:
2012 Scion xB

Overall everything has worked as it should. My only complaint would be that I have pretty much always had some wobble/looseness of the drawbar in the receiver. It is actually audible when driving.

I was in the process of buying, and selling a house when I installed the trailer hitch, so the issue was overlooked due to the complexity of the move. I guess I learned to live with it, and hope it doesn't ever cause a failure.

by:
2008 Scion xB

I installed the hitch this morning and I could not be happier with your product and service. The hitch itself was a very nice piece of kit with a beautiful finish and no rough edges. It was almost a shame I had to install it under the car where no one will ever see it.

The actual installation was even easier than I anticipated, I didn't even need to jack the car up! The entire process only took about 20 minutes from start to finish (not counting the time spent admiring the workmanship of your product).

I'm very happy and will definitely tell my friends about etrailer.

by:
2013 Scion xB

This whole outfit was very nice. The hitch fit very nicely and I had it installed in less than 15min (including loosening exhaust and working on the car at road height. No jack required)
The only problem I have with it and it's minor, the hitch pin is drilled 90 degrees off.
You cannot put the hairpin in to secure it drilled the way it is.
This is my first purchase from etrailer and I was very pleased with the with the website and the product I bought from them.

  • Recommended 2-Bike Class I Hitch Racks for 2014 Scion xB
One of my favorite 2-bike hitch racks for a Class I hitch like your Curt # C12490 is the Curt # C18085. I like this wheel-mount style rack for several reasons: it is moderately priced, it is lightweight - only 20-lbs, it has an 80-lbs total bike weight rating and it provides a generous 12-inches of clearance from it's hitch pin hole to the nearest part of the carrier. As a wheel-mount rack, it avoids stress on the bikes' frames since they make no contact with the rack. As a bonus, this...

  • Availability of Trailer Hitch for 2011 scion xB RS 8.0
Due to the center exhaust used on the RS 8.0, I'm sorry to say that the hitches we offer wouldn't work. However, if you were wanting to use the hitch to carry bicycles, we do have a solution that would help you with that. We have numerous trunk/hatch mounted bike racks that are compatible with your xB. I really like the relative simplicity of the Thule Gateway Pro, part # TH88VR for the 2 bike model or # TH78VR for a 3 bike. Thule is one of the premier bike rack manufacturers, their products...

  • Trailer Hitch For 2011 Scion xB Release
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12490 is a custom fit for the 2011 Scion xB base model. The hitch fits this generation of the xB. The Release series center exhaust is on the 2010 model but we still don't list this as a confirmed fit because of the body kit on the 2011 Release. Your 2011 will mount the same way but you would need to modify your body kit by trimming to accommodate the receiver tube. If you're looking to carry a bike rack or cargo I would get a roof rack. This will be...

A Class II hitch usually has a tongue weight rating of 350 pounds and a towing rating of 3,500 pounds. The only other difference is that accessories designed for Class II only hitches will not fit in a Class I Hitch. Class I accessories will work in the Class II hitch. I would recommend...

However, when you use any sort of 1-1/4" to 2" hitch adapter like the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver part # HTAD this reduces the hitch capacity by 1/2, so 175 lbs which then puts you over the limit with your hot dog cart. The Curt Class II hitch, part # C12490 would allow you to carry up to 4 bikes. Curt's warranty requires that a # 18050 support strap be used by all non-trailer loads like a bike rack.
