How Much Can Be Carried On a Cargo Carrier With a 2012 Scion xB

Question:

I have a class II trailer hitch I bought from you a few years back to pull a small trailer but i have to sell the trailer cause I am moving. I want to add a cargo carrier to my hitch. I have a 2012 scion xb and I want to get a larger cargo carrier to caring a heavy hotdog cart around. Id say it is about 225# and the cargo carrier is 52# plus a 2inch hitch adapter hitch I would need to do this in which I would buy from you. My issue is you have a note at bottom of the hitch adapter that reads as follows: Notes: Tongue weight capacity of hitch will be reduced by 50 with use of adapter. My question is: Can I do this or am I over capacity. The tongue capacity of the Curt trailer hitch I bought from you is 350#. Im a little confused. Can you help? The Hitch adapter I want to buy is: Hitch Adapter 1-1/4inch to 2inch Trailer Hitch Receiver Item # HTAD

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C12490 which is a fit for a 2012 Scion xB does indeed have a 350 lb weight capacity. However, when you use any sort of 1-1/4" to 2" hitch adapter like the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver part # HTAD this reduces the hitch capacity by 1/2, so 175 lbs which then puts you over the limit with your hot dog cart.

The only option you have to carry your hot dog cart without being overweight is to use a cargo carrier with 1-1/4" shank, the 19 X 47 Curt Cargo Carrier part # C18110. It has a mesh floor and a weight capacity of 300 pounds. The carrier weights 30 pounds so if your hot dog cart fits, this should work. If you can't fit your hot dog cart on this carrier then you will need to consider alternate solutions.
