Your service is great!!! Received it very quickly. The tracking was great, it kept me updated on my delivery..

SUPER HAPPY!!!

2009 Volkswagen GTI

Purchased to carry a bike rack for my 2009 VW GTI. Fits good, looks good. I like the look of the round bars of the Curt hitch to the square bars of the Hidden/Draw-Tite hitches. Have not noticed any vibration issues yet, but then again, I tend to keep my stereo up a bit loud.

Customer service was great when I needed to reschedule my delivery due to a short notice business trip that popped up after placing my order. Nikki at customer care was great. No difficulties at all and everything arrived when expected and in great condition.

Had to take the hitch to a local mechanic because I do not have the ramps or torque wrench for a DIY installation. Took them an hour to install, but they were upfront with me that they don't install many hitches. A U Haul installer is probably faster and a little cheaper since they have more experience. But my mechanic is walking distance to my house, so it was worth the convenience.

I also bought the Swagman XTC-2 Two Bike Platform Carrier which is in the picture. I'll leave more detailed feedback for the bike rack on that product's page.

Nice and heavy duty.
If I ever get rid
of the car I will remove it and use the steel for something

Exact fit , all hardware included plus readable and understandable instructions
Fast delivery too .

Hitch arrived promptly and installation on 2008 Rabbit went well. I haven’t pulled my kayak trailer yet but expect no problem. VW clearance is low so a heavy tongue weight would be difficult, but that’s not a problem with the hitch.

by:

Good, solid product.
The installation
video was very helpful and gave me a good, clear idea of how to install this hitch.
The only thing I wish I would have known: I needed a ~6" extension to reach the bolts.
Overall, this was a great experience with etrailer.com

Steady Eddie. The hitch is working great. No problems whatsoever. Happy with this etrailer.com experience.

Package arrived very fast and in good condition. Product lines up perfectly with existing holes on frame. Tricky to install alone, but takes about 30 mins after unpacking and reading directions.

by:

As advertised. Fit perfectly. Video was helpful with installing. Shipped in box that is too big. Save money and use smaller shipping box. Happy customer.

2007 Volkswagen Rabbit

The install went okay. Definitely easier and quicker with two people and a lift. Installation using jack stands and only one person was challenging. The hitch is secure enough, and installation instructions were sufficient.

I'm wondering if this model is the right fit for a 2007 Rabbit. The hitch receiver tube is actually touching the rear muffler, and I'm worried this will eventually put a hole in the muffler. I can hear the muffler rasp and vibrate against the hitch receiver tube at certain rpm's, so there's definitely some rubbing going on between the hitch and muffler.

2007 Volkswagen GTI

The Curt trailer hitch I bought for my 2007 VW GTI has worked perfectly. I like the design and low profile look. It was very easy to install too. The main reason I got the hitch is so I can hook up a bike rack and go mountain biking.

by:
2007 Volkswagen GTI

Ordering the hitch from eTrailer was easy and my shipment arrived quickly. I will continue to shop here.

The hitch itself looks nice, was easy to install and fits my 07 GTI well. The only fitment issue I'm concerned with is the angle of the receiver opening as it exits the car. It appears the opening sits at a slightly upwards angle (so as to follow the lines of the car and for increased ground clearance) instead of being parallel with the earth. I've not hauled with the receiver yet. If the angle poses a problem, it can be addressed with a few additional spacers.

I was kind of dreading the install on my little VW GTI...but wow it was easy. First the hitch was delivered within 3 days (was expecting 7 plus). It was packaged nicely and the hitch itself was protected very good within the box. Hitch was unblemished. Secondly, the install video on the site was very helpful. Thirdly, I set aside a few hours yesterday for this task and it took me about an hour. However, 40 minutes of that was to find my ramps so I could get the rear of the vehicle up in the air. I saw other posts that indicated needing stands and/or 2 people but I did it with me laying on the creeper with the hitch resting on my stomach. I got the hitch in place, threaded the wire (for the new bolt) through the hitch and installed/snugged up the existing bolt. I then removed the wire and threaded the new bolt on a little. Did the same for the other side. Tightened everything up and torqued it down. Highly recommend etrailer.com! Excellent service and prompt shipment. I will be ordering another hitch for my wife's vehicle in the next few weeks.

Volkswagen GTI

Curt hitch for MkV GTII installed this receiver in my driveway using a set of car ramps, two jack stands to hold the receiver, and the tools recommended in the instructions. Be sure to have both 18mm and 19mm sockets on hand. I took my time and installed the hitch in 2 hrs including a few breaks to warm up from the 20 degree weather. Maneuvering the receiver into place is awkward but otherwise the install is very straight forward. In hindsight I could have done this install with a buddy inside a garage and saved well over 1/2 the time.

I use my receiver to hold a Swagman XTC bike rack. After two uses there have been no fit or wobble issues. Since the GTI is fairly low to the ground I'm cautious entering and exiting some driveways. So far I've only scraped once going up a super steep and uneven incline.

I really like the look of the Curt compared to some other receiver hitch options. It's also fairly well camouflaged under the rear valence.

This is actually the 3rd hitch I've bought from eTrailer and I can't say enough good things about their customer service and pricing. Additionally, shipping is always fast and reliable with my hitches arriving within 3 days.
Hands down the best place to buy a quality trailer hitch anywhere!

Solid hitch. Easy to install. Use regularly with a Yakima rack to haul my mountain bikes.

2008 Volkswagen rabbit. Easy install I did without help. Bolts right up.

I tow my little teardrop trailer with my little rabbit.

I would recommend this product and etrailers service to anyone. Excellent company and products.

by:

Works like a champ! It was easy to install, and I haven't had any issues with it at all. Absolutely fantastic product that's helped make moving far easier. Thank you!

by:

Fit right on, very nice finish. and installation was a breeze on my rabbit with the video and the provided bolt holding guide wire provided. Can't beat the price.

great price & service, except for the fairly deep scratches in the hitch's finish. once again poor packing of heavy items results in customer loss.

2009 Volkswagen Rabbit

Great product and fast delivery, install took 20 minutes for the hitch and 45 for the harness.

by:

Awesome product. Simple installation. Very satisfied. Thanks etrailer.

by:

Installed without any drama. Perfect fit. Sits within 1/4" of the valance without hitting. No issues whatsoever installing or fitting. Need to loosen the exhaust hanger bracket, but that's just some 13mm nuts. Easy. Totally recommended!

2007 Volkswagen GTI

Hitch arrived quickly, and went on in about a half hour. The Curt Hitch looks awesome on my 2007 GTI. I will be recommending this website to all of my friends.

Shipment was prompt, product is quality, installation was not complicated and went pretty easy.
Would definitely use etrailer again!!

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Wiring Harness For Trailer Towing With a 2008 VW GTI
I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11074 for your 2008 Volkswagen GTI. I checked with Draw-Tite, EcoHitch and Stealth as they make the hidden receivers and none of them have anything to fit your GTI. The Curt does have a small 1-1/4" receiver that will keep the receiver up tight against your rear fascia and have the least impact on ground clearance. The receiver itself is rated to tow up to 2,000lbs with a 200lb tongue weight rating. Curt recommends their 2" Euro Ball Mount...

  • Why is a Stabilizing Strap Recommended on Curt Hitches and what is Meant by Non-Trailer Load
Non-trailer loads are hitch accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers. Basically anything that is not a trailer that you could put on a hitch. Curt recommends you use a Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap # 18050 to help prevent excessive jarring on the hitch from bumps. Basically you will attach one of the strap to the hitch accessory and the other end to the trunk lid of your vehicle and the support will help brace the setup to prevent excessive jarring of your hitch setup. • How to Prevent Exhaust Components from Contacting the Trailer Hitch
It is not uncommon for the exhaust components on a vehicle to come in contact with an aftermarket trailer hitch. The reason for this is that the placement of the exhaust components from the manufacturer are relative and not exact which means they will all be the same general location but may be slightly tilted or hanging an 1" or so in one direction or another from vehicle to vehicle. An easy way to fix this would be to just bend the hangers slightly with a bit of heat and a pry bar. I...

  • Is Fascia Trimming Required to InstallCurt Trailer Hitch C11074 on a 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit
There is no fascia trimming required to install Curt trailer hitch # C11074 on your 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. The Draw-Tite part # 24825 is a Class I hitch like the Curt; it does not require fascia trimming as it sits below the fascia.

  • Trailer Hitch, Wiring and Ball Mount for 2008 VW Rabbit
For your 2008 VW Rabbit the Curt # C11074 is a fit and is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver that has a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 lbs and tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs. For wiring which will give you a 4-way connector and allow you to power your trailer's lights you need Wiring Harness # C59236 which will give you a 4-flat connector. The correct ball mount for this hitch is # C45016 and depending on the hitch ball size your motorcycle trailer's coupler accepts you will...

  • Could a Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 11074 Tow a Trailer and Motorcycle that Weighs 1,050 lbs
Yes, this Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver with Drawbar, part # 11074, that you referenced will work on your 2008 VW Rabbit and has a towing capacity that is higher than the weight of the rental trailer and motorcycle. You will want to check with the owners manual of your Rabbit also to make sure that it has the towing capacity to tow that much weight. When determining what your overall towing capacity is for your setup you should always go with the lowest capacity of all the components as...

  • Would the Swagman XC # S64650 Fit a 2007 VW GTI With a Curt Hitch
To determine if the Swagman XC Bike Rack part # S64650 would fit on your 2007 Volkswagen GTI with a Curt hitch # C11074 you need to take one important measurement. You need to measure from the center of the hitch pin out to the furthest point out on the rear of your vehicle. If that measurement is less than 10-1/2 inches the # S64650 would fit and work well. The # S64650 has a distance of 10-1/2 inches from the center of its hitch pin hole to the nearest wheel mount.

Only light-duty Class I hitches are made for your car so you will need to choose a Class I-compatible hitch rack of no more than 2-bike capacity. The linked page displays all 2-bike Class I racks. • Why Does Curt Require a Stabilizer Strap But Other Hitch Companies Dont
Curt recommends the stabilizer strap with non-supported loads like bike racks to help support the hitch when going over bumps to prevent some of the vertical shock from being transferred to the hitch. Curt does this as a precaution, it's not that Draw Tite or Hidden Hitch are stronger. Both hitch brands make outstanding hitches that are typically stronger than what they are rated for. I would say that Curt just happens to approach the idea of a bike rack/cargo carrier being used in a lower...

  • Will Curt Hitch 11074 Fit a 2007 Volkswagen GTI with Ground Effects
Curt hitch, part 11074, was designed to fit the factory body trims. If the ground effects you have are aftermarket or dealer installed, the hitch may not fit. I have added a link to the instructions for the hitch below that include a profile diagram of where the hitch sits in relation to the rear bumper cover and some of the undercarriage. Take a close look at the diagram and compare it to the body on your GTI. It should give you some insight as to whether or not the hitch will fit.

  • Curt Hitch Recommendation for a 2006 Volkswagen GTI
The main difference between the Curt Hitch # 11074 and the Draw-Tite Hitch # 24825 is like you already noticed, the Curt is a round tube and the others are square. Generally speaking, most people agree that the round tube style hitches look less visible. It also helps that the Curt has brackets that do not come down on either side of the cross tube as far either. I think the Curt hitch would be the best choice for you as it be less visible for the above mentioned reasons. I attached...
