Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Wiring Harness For Trailer Towing With a 2008 VW GTI
Question:
Hello, I am looking for preferrably a hidden hitch solution that will allow me to tow my motorcycle under 500lbs with my 2008 Volkswagen GTI. I came across the EcoHitch Trailer Hitch - 306-X7375 but seems this is for the 2018-2019 GTI models. I would tow the motorcycle with either a small u-haul trailer or a motow motorcycle hitch. Any suggestions on what my hitch options are? Thank you

I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11074 for your 2008 Volkswagen GTI. I checked with Draw-Tite, EcoHitch and Stealth as they make the hidden receivers and none of them have anything to fit your GTI. The Curt does have a small 1-1/4" receiver that will keep the receiver up tight against your rear fascia and have the least impact on ground clearance. The receiver itself is rated to tow up to 2,000lbs with a 200lb tongue weight rating.
Curt recommends their 2" Euro Ball Mount # C45572 or 1-7/8" Euro Ball Mount # C45571 with a Pin and Clip # F-4 to hold it in the receiver. You can upgrade to the Master Lock Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock and Coupler Lock Set # 3794DAT to be able to secure the trailer both when connect to your GTI or when being stored.
The ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness # 119250KIT will allow you to add a 4-way flat connector to your GTI. This will provide power to the trailer for the tail lights on the trailer.
