Chevrolet SS

Installation was pretty seamless, except for the 1/2 X1-1/4" bolt being too short, replaced with 2" SS. May have been because the hole ended up too close to the spare tire well corner. The other item not mentioned was the muffler heat guard was slightly in the way but easily bent out of the way. Can't wait to pull my 50 ft yacht, lol.

2004 Honda Pilot

I actually haven't used the hitch yet but I'm confident that it is installed correctly and will work. The video instructions that I used were for the 2004 VW Golf. It didn't seem like there was a video for 2003, and my 2003 VW Golf was a little different than shown.

For the 1/2" bolt: The paper instructions shipped with were not extremely thorough and I was left trying to decide which set of pre-drill holes in the car's tow loop to use. See pictures. What ended up happening is that I chose the first hole forward of the loop because the second was definitely too far forward on the car (meaning the hitch would have been set back from the bumper too far). This meant that the 1/2" bolt needed to be installed on the side slope of the interior spare cavity (again, see pics), so I had to go to the hardware store and get a longer 1/2" Grade 8 bolt so that there would be enough threads exposed to get the nut on the inside. Then, when I tightened up that bolt to the specified 110 ft lbs (which feels pretty extreme, by the way) the washer in the spare cavity sheared the side wall of the cavity because the washer was at a slope. This is no big deal, I just sealed it off with more silicone and the attachment point is plenty structural because of the tow loop.

The rest of the install was smooth. A tip: don't go buy a right angle drill for this job. I drilled pilot holes with a smaller, shorter drill bit from underneath the car with the hitch in place as a template, and then drilled to the correct 3/8" size from inside the trunk/spare cavity. This allowed me to fit a regular drill underneath by the exhaust. Another tip: don't pull the exhaust off of the rubber shock mounts; just unbolt the shock mounts from the chassis of the car. Wrestling with the rubber shock mounts is a huge pain.

2009 Volkswagen Golf City

I ordered this hitch for a bike-rack; ordering was simple, shipping (even to Canada) was quick, and all was as promised. Installation was not "without a hitch" but was without complications!

Easy install. Watch the [online video] Have a angle drill to drill the upright mount holes. Other than that. Super easy and great quality and communication from etrailer.

2001 Volkswagen GTI

I've got an VW 2001 MKIV GTI. Install went smoothly, just rolled the car onto a set of ramps and it goes right in. Make sure you have a jack or a good buddy to hold the hitch in place when installing.

As far as the quality of the product it is very good so far. Also, the quality of service from trailer is of the best for any business I have felt with.

I would recommend to a friend.

Thanks,

Tim M

This was not a great fit for my 2004 VW golf. It took persuasion in the form pry bars and drills. Much better experience with other Curt hitches.

It sounds like that the side brackets were knocked out of alignment which is why the bolt holes are not lining up. This can happen while in transit to our facility or to you. We do have a great FAQ that provides ways to move the brackets back into alignment so the hitch can be installed.

by:
2003 Volkswagen Golf

I like this hitch a lot, although mounting it to a Golf is definitely an involved operation. There are no stock hitch mounting options on the golf and so you must drill into the spare tire case for install. It's just not something you do at home unless you have a good variety of tools and a couple hydraulic jacks. I took it to a local installer and they mounted it for about $80, but they mounted it a little crooked, which means I'm pretty much hosed if I want to straighten it. Oh well. Otherwise the mount has been zero issues and strong like bull. It's probably the best option on the market if you want a hitch rack on your Mk4 Golf.

I am sorry that your hitch has arrived as such. I have sent this information over to our customer service department for them to get in contact with you. They should be reaching out to you within the next 24-48 hours. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for hitches to receive scratches during shipment. We recommend that you use a rust-oleum type paint to cover any scratchesscrapesscuffs. This will help prevent any future corrosion or rust.

Im sorry to see that your hitch has received some scratches on it due to shipping. This does tend to happen and when it does, we recommend using a Rust-oleum type paint to cover up any scratches and prevent corrosion in the future during use. I have a link below for your reference. I have also sent this information over to our Customer Service Department for them to get into contact with you.

2002 Volkswagen GTI

Install was fairly straight forward. Receiver seems like a quality piece. Most of the hardware included was perfect however the 1/2 bolt that threaded into the hand nut did not work for me. The bolt was not long enough to thread into the nut on the other side but nothing a quick trip to Ace couldn’t fit. Hitch looks great and I can’t wait to hook up the teardrop camper this summer and chase some adventure.

by:
2003 Volkswagen Golf

nice hitch, easy install but the washers for the bolts inside the spare tire well were too thin and soft. replaced them with thicker body washers

by:

Arrived on time and looks great. I look forward to installing it soon -- the instructions and bolts should do the job.

  • Need Help with Curt Class I Hitch # C11066 Installation on 2001 Volkswagon New Beetle
We do have an installation video for Curt hitch # C11066 that I have linked for you. This shows the hitch being installed in a 2004 VW Golf, not a New Beetle, but since the frames of the two vehicles are the same you should find some useful help in the video. Do note that it can happen that in shipment of a hitch rough handling by the carrier can cause a bit of twisting or distortion of the mounting flanges which have the mounting holes. It may be necessary to apply a little force to the...

  • Could Curt Hitch For 2002 Volkswagen Golf Fit with Aftermarket Exhaust
If you check out the picture I attached that shows the Curt hitch part # C11066 installed you can see that it fits pretty far away from the factory exhaust which is the only configuration it's been tested on. Comparing this picture to what you vehicle looks like will be the best way to determine if the hitch will fit with the exhaust.

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2004 Volkswagen Golf to Tow Small Camper
The Curt Hitch part # C11066 that you referenced has been confirmed as a fit for your 2004 Volkswagen Golf GTI. The hitch itself has the towing capacities of 2,000 lbs trailer weight and 200 lbs tongue weight. As long as your trailer stays under this figure and the towing capacities that are listed for your vehicle in the owners manual you would be good to go. To complete your towing setup you may also be interested in purchasing the following: Draw-Tite Wiring # 119178KIT (installation...

  • How To Transport Bikes On The Roof Of A 2000 Volkswagen GTI
I have a solution for you, but the only roof rack confirmed to fit your 2000 Volkswagen GTI is the SeaSucker Monkey Bars Roof Rack # 298-SX6000B. While I know this isn't the route you want to go, I will recommend a bike rack that would work with that round bar setup. You could add 1 or 2 of the Thule ProRide XT Roof Bike Rack # TH598004 which will attach to the SeaSucker Monkey Bars and allow you to mount your bike(s). While there are no other ways to safely haul a bike on your roof, I...

  • Can Stabilization Strap # 18050 for Curt Trailer Hitches be Attached to Glass Hatch on VW Beetle
I do not recommend using the hook on stabilization strap # 18050 on glass because it could end up damaging the glass on your 1999 VW New Beetle. What you could do, instead of using the hook part, is to replace it with strap # Y02623 or hook the hook part to the loop of this strap. The Yakima strap has that padded cylinder that would be inside the vehicle. This will disperse the weight/force on the glass over a wider area.

  • Correct 2" Trailer Hitch for a 1998 VW New Beetle TDI
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11066 is what I recommend for a 1998 Volkswagen New Beetle (All Models Including TDI). It has a 1-1/4" opening which is all that is available for this vehicle but I do still have an option to give you the 2" opening. In order to do this you'll need an adapter, the Brophy Hitch Adapter part # HT5R or part # HTAD but please keep in mind these reduce hitch capacity by 50%.

  • Is There a Replacement Bolt Kit for the Curt C11066 Available?
We can definitely get you replacement hardware for the Curt # C11066. We will then assemble all the needed pieces and ship them out to you. I did include a picture of all the hardware that comes with this hitch as well.

  • Correct Trailer Hitch Fit for a 1998 Volkswagen New Beetle
I'm glad to hear you like the trailer hitch on your 2010 Nissan Maxima! While there are hitch fits for your 1998 Volkswagen New Beetle, these aren't the same as the hitch for your Maxima so you'll need to get a whole new hitch due to the overall design of the hitch and how it fits to the vehicle. • Parts Needed to Tow Trailer with 2003 VW Golf TDI
Since you have a factory hitch on your 2003 VW Golf TDI it wouldn't be worth upgrading to a new hitch like the Curt # C11066 as it wouldn't gain you any additional capacity. You would need trailer wiring too if you didn't have that already like with the part # HM48925. For a ball mount you would then want the part # C45016 with the hitch ball # 19258.
