Question:
We installed one on our 2010 Nissan Maxima and love it!!! Can we switch it to a 1998 VW New Beetle?

I'm glad to hear you like the trailer hitch on your 2010 Nissan Maxima! While there are hitch fits for your 1998 Volkswagen New Beetle, these aren't the same as the hitch for your Maxima so you'll need to get a whole new hitch due to the overall design of the hitch and how it fits to the vehicle.
For '98 New Beetle I recommend picking up the Curt Trailer Hitch # C11066 which is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver that will fit directly to the holes in the frame of your vehicle.
Attached is an installation video of this hitch on a 2004 VW for you to check out. If you let me know what you plan on using the hitch for I'll be more than happy to make an additional recommendation!
