mount diagram

This unique adjustable ball mount from Gen-Y Hitch has a vertical shank that is made up of 6 stacked 2-1/2" receivers. This lets you easily adjust the height of the included ball mount, or any other accessory you choose to use. This mount also has built-in shock absorption to ensure a safe, smooth towing experience. Using technology similar to that found in torsion trailer axles, the Gen-Y mount absorbs road shock, isolating any rough jarring or chucking at the connection point. This prevents the rough motion from transferring from the vehicle to the trailer and vice versa.

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

Driving over bumps, potholes, and uneven terrain causes road shock, which can result in a rough, bumpy ride and even potentially damage your vehicle or trailer. This Gen-Y Hitch torsion mount is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the mount, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

torsion w/cutaway

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y mount. This allows for movement between the base, which slides into your vehicle's trailer hitch, and the stacked receivers, which provide the connection point for your trailer. When your trailer hits a bump, the stacked receiver portion of the mount will move up or down accordingly.

torsion diagram

Built into the Gen-Y mount are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the receivers rise or fall, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the receivers' motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

This type of shock-absorption system is easy to maintain. Just regularly apply grease to the built-in zerk to keep the components in working condition. No airbags to fill. No small parts to repair or replace. No hassle.

Multiple Stacked Receivers for Easy Adjustment

stacked receivers

This unique mount from Gen-Y Hitch includes a ball mount that can be easily positioned in one of the 6 stacked receivers that sits along the vertical shank of the unit. This dual-ball mount lets you tow a trailer with a 2" ball coupler or a 2-5/16" ball coupler.

pintle hitch

Also included is a pintle lock, which can be inserted into the receiver directly above the ball mount to create a pintle hitch for hooking up a trailer with a lunette ring. Unlike other adjustable pintle hooks on the market, there are no nuts and bolts to remove and retorque when you change the positioning of this hitch. Just move the ball mount and pintle lock up or down to get the proper height and secure them in place with the included pins.

With the 6 stacked receivers, not only do you have the ability to adjust the height of the included ball mount, but you also have the ability to add various other hitch-mounted accessories. This heavy-duty mount is built with a 2,400-lb tongue weight, so you can even use multiple hitch accessories at the same time, as long as there are no clearance issues.

Easily Check Your Tongue Weight

scale

This mount features a built-in mechanical tongue weight scale. The red section on the top of the scale indicates your maximum tongue weight (2,400 lbs). The red section on the bottom of the scale indicates no tongue weight (0 lbs). A tongue weight of at least 1,600 lbs is recommended for the built-in shock absorption to function effectively. This means that the scale's white indicator marker should be in the green section when you hook up your trailer to tow.

Video Transcript for Gen-Y Torsion 2-Ball Mount Review 325-GH-1324

Hi everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Gen-Y torsion ball mount with a 9" drop for your 2 1/2" hitches. This is gonna be a really high end and pretty unique ball mount. It offers a lot of adjustment in that height. It's gonna have two different ball sizes that come with it and it's got a built-in torsion system to act as a shock absorber. So as our trailer is going up and down, all that shock and vibration is gonna hopefully get absorbed completely by this ball mount or at least most of the way and not transfer that all the way into our truck, creating a much more smooth and enjoyable towing experience.

Let's check it out. A couple things to note here. Like I mentioned, this is the one with the 9" drop. You can get some other configurations of this one with the same weight capacity that offer different drop variations so if you need a little less or more, you can get that. Plus this one's going to be rated for a certain weight.

If the two ball configuration right now it's got a 16,000 pound gross trailer weight rating that's how much weight it can pull and a 1,500 pound max tongue weight. But we can very easily switch that ball around to the included 2 5/16 ball to get a 21,000 pound gross trailer weight rating and a 2,400 pound max tongue weight. So that's kind of weight capacity we're working with here. If you need a little bit more, you can get that with other versions of this ball mount and they make plenty that have lighter versions as well. Now what makes this ball mount unique is the torsion system.

That's going to be found internally here and here where we've got an inner solid bar that runs the whole width of the ball mount here surrounded by thick rubber cord. And what this is designed to do is as our trailer loaded up with all that heavy weight, bounces up and down, hits any bumps in the road and has all that shock, that's going to cause those rubber cords to twist and that's going to act as a shock absorber with some cushioning and making this whole assembly move with the trailer rather than being rigid and get jostled around by it and transferring all that energy to our truck. It's a pretty unique system, but it does have some caveats to it and that caveat is that you need tongue weight to make it work. We've got our built-in tongue weight scale in the back with this hash mark to let us know where we're at. Right now, it's aligned with that red zone at the top letting us know that we don't have any tongue weight on there or we just don't have sufficient tongue weight.

Since we're not hooked up, that all checks out. The red zone on the bottom lets us know that we're overloaded and we have too much tongue weight and have more than what the ball mount can handle, and that green zone in the middle is going to align with our ideal tongue weight. Anywhere from 1,600 pounds all the way up to 2,400 pounds is going to make this work the best. Now, something you might remember from the weight capacities is that our 2" ball is only rated for 1,500 pounds so it's really not going to work super well with the shock absorption on this system. So this is really designed for heavy hauling with that 2 5/16 ball. Speaking of heavy hauling, if you've got a lunette ring trailer this is gonna work really well for that too because you have an included pintle lock. So all you need to do is hook up your lunette ring trailer, lower it down over the top here and take your included pin and clip out of the pintle lock. This just slides into the receiver tubes right above where we have our ball mount and will re-secure with a newly aligned pin hole over top. So once that lunette ring trailer is on and this is locked in, it's going to hold it in place and you can carry that too with this ball mount without having to swap out for something different. Like we mentioned before with that maximum drop, you can also get a little bit of rise in this position. The top receiver tube here will give us 3" rise from our hitch. Now if we want to though, and we need more rise than that, we could take the whole ball mount out of the hitch and actually flip it upside down. I will say that when you're doing this, this ball mount is heavy. It definitely speaks to the fantastic construction that Gen-Y has because their build quality is just super solid. But I will advise you to just be careful when lifting it and working with it because again, it's heavy, hard to lift and you definitely wanna practice good lifting technique if you do need to swap it around. As we lift it into the hitch though, I do wanna point out that you've got two pin holes to choose from. The one out here will give us a little bit more clearance from our vehicle and about 1" over we've got another one that we can use if we want a little bit more of that shank in the receiver tube. That's the one I'll go with. And then because of the weight, again, getting it aligned can be a bit tricky, but not too bad overall. There's plenty of places on here to get a good handhold and get it hooked up. One thing to note with the hitch pin is that it doesn't come included with the ball mount. You will need to pick up one for yourself. I'd strongly recommend a locking hitch pin with a ball mount like this because you don't want it to go missing. And then for the stacked receivers and the pin holes and pins holding them in place, the pins are gonna be standard 5/8" pins. So if you need to swap these out for any sort of locking pin, you can. And the stacked receivers are gonna be standard 2" by 2" receiver tubes. So if you want to mount any other accessories in here, you can. It's all gonna be standard sizing and really easy to swap out or add to it. Like we mentioned before, the construction on this is next to none. Very heavy duty thick steel and it's going to have a zinc primer with a powder coat finish on top, that's gonna help it resist rust and corrosion over time. And then you also have this hammered textured finish for the powder coat, which gives it this really unique look and looks really good on the back of the truck too. Something people really like about this system is that it's very low maintenance. The only thing you really have to worry about with this is going to be greasing it every 3,000 miles is what Gen Y recommends. So beyond that, you really don't have to do anything else to upkeep it and keep it operating smoothly. As for greasing it, you've got two fittings located on the top and bottom of the ball mount to make that really easy. Otherwise, that'll do it for our look at the Gen-Y torsion ball mount. With this, the big thing is just making sure that you match the ball mount to your truck and trailer combination because you do need that ideal range of tongue weight to make it work properly. You wanna make sure that whatever loads you're carrying fits that bill. Like I said before, there's tons of different sizes in this. All kinds of different weight capacities that will have different ideal ranges to make the torsion system work. Within that, they're gonna have tons of options that'll work with your 2 1/2" hitch so you should be able to find the right one to fit the job for you. Otherwise, I think that'll do it for our look at the Gen-Y torsion ball mount. Thanks for watching.

The order process was smooth. But, when trying to find out about the the lifetime warranty offered by Gen Y on the rubber components in the hitch Nicole could not answer my question.

I asked if I was able to purchase through you and if not could I purchase from Gen Y even though I bought the hitch from you.

This is something customer service should know the answer too.
You would have gotten five stars but it was ruined by lack of knowledge by your staff.

by:

anyways thus far it's a #5 I haven't really used it but I will sooner than later. Your hitch is on this bad boy!! Thank you for considering my 2020 Ford Velocity Blue F350 Lariat Special addition!!!

by:

Awesome hitch, the tongue weight scale is the cheesiest thing I've ever seen on a product with this price point- a sticker that was peeling up when I received it and a little white paint mark that wiped away when I used an alcohol wipe to clean it before covering with super glue to try and make it hold up past the first rain event. Come on Gen Y your engineers can surely come up with something better that will actually last for years. You got the hitch down, now just focus on the details.

First impression massive, heavy Built Stout. My truck is always hooked to a trailer so I figured I would try a nicer set up I was using the B&W which is great for the average Joe that just needs to pull a trailer every now and then but this is a whole new world first trailer I pulled with It I could feel the difference right away it was smoother the vibrations and harsh thump feelings that I would normally get when pulling the trailers when I hit rough roads or bumps was not as bad or gone. It definitely made a huge difference super easy to move height if needed and an added bonus I didn’t think of is that it pushes the trailer back further so you can get a little tighter turning when backing up if needed and i can open the tailgate and it won’t hit the jack on the trailer. On top of that when people see it it’s a conversation starter There are not many of these out there so they are intrigued by the size and how it works. Bottom line in my opinion if you’re towing all the time it is worth the investment. I would invest in another.

by:

It is a strong hitch. If you leave it in your receiver plan on it rusting even with the coating that it has on it. The coating on the ball with most cases need to be scraped off before your hitch will even fit over it so that will rust right away as they normally do. Was hoping the rest of it would look a little better after one year.

by:

Solid 6” drop hitch that is extremely heavy but well made. Very smooth with bigger loads. Required some modification to my Fab Four bumper for proper fit. I gave it four stars because my hitch didn’t have the set screw option as advertised.

03 Duramax 2500hd with six inch lift, 35” tires
16000lb Curtis receiver (well made five stars)

by:

Would definitely order parts from your company again...thank you

by:

Built like a brick s@%thouse. Works great! Keep in mind I use this for pulling same trailer loaded same way every day. I could figure out optimal hitch weight and keep it there

by:

Worth the money if you are pulling heavy loads.fit and finish it top quality.

by:

Quality product. Very Robust. I bought this hoping to dampen some of the shock my truck, which is about 15,000 lbs, transmits to my boat, which is about 8500 lbs, thinking it may help with the boat's longevity. It helps with big shocks for sure, but the hitch needs to be in the top 2/3rds of its rated capacity to noticeably dampen the shock between your trailer and tow rig. It works wonders on my loaded dump trailer.

by:

This thing is built like a tank. I have towed a few items that have been reasonably heavy (although not at 21,000lbs). I can say that it does a good job at limiting the aftershock of terrible roads that I have been on. It does a good job and is easily versatile to use with the adjustments available. The hitch should endure travels towing for quite a long time considering how well it is built.

by:

Best hitch ever... performs above and beyond as advertised. Will never use straight or drop hitch again. We pull our bobcat up the 4wd drive beaches of North Carolina which are often bumpy. This hitch separated the trailer movement from the truck. Well worth the money. Do it once and never do it again!

by:

Very nice, well built hitch, but the torsion part of it only works well when towing near the upper load limit of the hitch. Buy the same hitch without the torsion if you are not going to be pulling heavy loads near hitch capacity. You'll save lots!

by:

My brother and my son recommended this to me. I got to ride along with my son as he hauled a 10,000 lb. camper. Wow! I couldn’t believe the difference it made in the ride! The ride was so much smoother not to mention the wear and tear it saves on the tow vehicle! I’m impressed with the service from etrailer also. The package arrived in great condition, everything was there, and it even came a day earlier than expected! I highly recommend them!!!

by:

Great product
Takes away the jerking
sensations of speed bumps and the occasional pothole.
When you do hit a bump at speed it takes a while for the flexing to settle back into a smooth ride. I equate the feeling like being in a boat. Now that I’m used to it it’s hardly noticeable.

by:

Great hitch. Just makes my safety chains to short.

by:

I received my torsion hitch as promised from etrailer. The hitch is built with quality
And very simple to install. I will be using it for the first time in a coupe of days.

by:

Great service. I made a mistake and ordered the wrong item. I was bummed there was a restocking fee but it was my mistake so I cant be to mad. They were very responsive on correcting the order. Hitch definitely seems super well built.

by:

Excellent Quality, better driving while you with trailer and Made in USA.
I love it
Thanks to the company

by:

works great, heavy duty, good investment

by:

Haven't installed it yet, but this things a beast. For the manufacturer, you should put a couple of heavy stickers on it for the delivery guys, lol. Looks well built and can't wait to see how it acts with my camper.

by:

EASY AND SIMPLE PURCHASE THIS HITCH IS BADASS VERY STRONGLY BUILT

by:

Seems to be an impressive product. But even more impressed with the purchase experience. Great price, great freight policy, it was packed protectively and arrived way ahead of schedule. I’ll be looking for more products to buy from this etrailer.

by:

Solid product! etrailer sent this heavy item very quickly and I will look to do business with them again.

  • Gen-Y Torsion Adjustable Ball Mount Recommendation for Lifted Truck with 2-1/2 inch Hitch
The Gen-Y Torsion adjustable ball mounts for 2-1/2 inch hitches are incredibly solid ball mount options. For a 6 inch lift on your truck you'd need one that can do a healthy amount of drop. But it really depends on how tall your trailer is going to be relative to the hitch height of the truck. We have options like the part # 325-GH-1325 which can do up to a 9 inch drop, the part # 325-GH-1326 which can do up to a 12 inch drop or the part # 325-GH-1524 which can do up to a 15 inch drop.
