Video Transcript for Fastway Self-Locking, Adjustable 2-Ball Mount Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the fastway self locking line of adjustable two ball mounts. So, if you're looking for an easy to use, versatile ball mount, our fastway self locking ball mount, is going to be able to adapt to several different trailers, keep everything secure without any extra components, and look good while doing it.If you tow multiple different trailers, chances are they're going to have a different coupler size, or they're going to have a different tongue height. So, we're going to have to switch out our ball mount. That can become a hassle, especially if we tow so many different trailers in any given day.Well, our fastway ball mount's going to take care of that, because we're going to be able to switch our height, because it's going to be adjustable. But it's also going to give us two different ball sizes. Our ball mounts are going to come in a lot of different configurations, we're going to have some that are going to be available for the two inch receiver tube like we have here. But some also available for the two and a half inch receiver tube. And they're going to have varying different drops and rises that way you can pick one that's going to work with all of your trailers. Now, one thing that you're really going to appreciate about this, is that it's going to have self contained locks.

We're going to have this rubber grommet here, that's going to have a plug over our lock cylinder, so it means we can just lift it open. And you'll notice that we're going to have a tubular key, so we're not going to have to worry about it being picked. But if we unlock our ball, we can slide it up or down to get the appropriate riser drop. And then if we remove it, you'll notice that we're going to have another lock core right on the base here. Now, this is going to be used so we can lock our ball mount directly to the receiver tube. And if you watch, you can notice that the pins are going to go in.

So, we're not going to have to worry about losing our lock, because it's going to be self contained inside the ball mount. We can simply just slide our ball mount in place, line up the pin holes, and then rotate our key, until those pins extend out. And you can see that's not going anywhere. So, we'll make sure that pin is in all the way. And slide our ball mount on, then we can rotate the key, until we get it into the slot, and it will lock it in place. Now, our ball mount's not going to go anywhere, and we're not going to have to worry about anybody stealing it from our receiver, or taking the ball platform. And for extra piece of mind, to make sure that you have the ball mount in the correct spot, it isn't just hung up.

The key itself is not going to come out until it's fully in the locked position. So, even if I get it half way and the key is turned, it's still not going to come out, because that pin hasn't fully inserted. But once it does, the key will come out. Each one of these notches in our ball mount here is going to be in one inch increments. So, right now, we have them in rise position. And if we need to go up say two inches, we can just go up two notches, and that will give us a two inch rise.

And the same thing if we we're going down in the drop position. Each one of our ball mounts is going to come with a total of four keys, and both sets of keys are going to work with both the locks. With the locks being right on front of the shank here, and on the side of the ball platform, it's going to make it a lot easier than trying to get underneath the hitch here, messing with the pin and clip, or locking device, and it's one less thing that we have to worry about misplacing. Because our locks are going to be internal, and they're going to be sealed off from any kind of dirt or debris, so we don't have to worry about them getting damaged. Each one of our ball mounts is going to be made out of a solid piece of aircraft grade aluminum, so we're not going to have to worry about any weak points, because there's no welds in them to break. So, they're going to be nice and strong, and durable, but yet lighter weight than steel versions. Our ball mount right now we have in the drop position, but you can flip it over and put it in the rise position. In case you have a trailer that's taller than the other, so we can get a little bit more height, or drop for whatever we need. Now, each one of them's going to have two different balls on it, we're going to have a two inch ball, and a two and five sixteenths inch ball. And switching them's going to be just as easy as adjusting the height, we simply unlock it, flip the ball platform over, to whichever ball we need. And when it comes to the trailer balls themselves, we're going to have two different options. We'll have the version we have here, which is gonna be a steel, chrome plated ball, which is your typical trailer ball. And then we're going to have the stainless steel version. Now, these are going to be made out of a 303 stainless steel, and they're going to be extremely rust and corrosion resistant. It's going to be really good for marine applications, or anywhere that has a lot of moisture, even humidity, so we're not going to have to worry about rust. And that is another big benefit of the aluminum ball mount, it is going to be rust and corrosion resistant, so we know it's going to have this nice, polished mirror finish for a long time. Now, since our ball mounts are going to come in a variety of different configurations, the shank size, and the ball size, is going to make a difference on how much it can handle. So, whenever you're towing, you always want to double check your hitch, as well as the vehicle's owner manual, and go with the lowest rating.Being able to adjust the ball mount up and down, is nice, but if we don't know how much of a drop or rise we need, it doesn't do us much good. So, we'll show you how to measure for the appropriate riser drop for your trailer. You're going to want to measure from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, you're gonna make sure that your tow vehicle is nice and flat and on level ground whenever you make your measurement. So, right here, we're getting right about 17 inches. Now, we can come to our trailer and again, you want to make sure that your trailer is nice and level. So, we have our trailer chalked. And we'll come up to the coupler, and we'll measure from the ground to the bottom edge of the coupler here. Which I'm getting right about 21 inches. So, there is about a four inch difference. But since my trailer is higher, I'm going to want a four inch rise. So, we'll take our ball mount, we'll make sure that the pins are all the way in, and since I need a rise, I'll put it in the rise position. Slide it in the receiver tube, line up the holes and turn the key and lock it in place. And we can grab our ball platform, and again, open up the plug, take our key, make sure that pin goes all the way in. Pick the appropriate ball for your trailer, we'll slide it down close to where we need it. And once we have it lined up, we can turn the key and replace the plug. So, now we can go and double check our measurements, make sure we're pretty close to that 21 inches, and we are. Now, all we have left to do, is back up and hook up to our trailer. That'll finish up your look at the fastway self locking line of adjustable two ball mounts.

Love the design with no locking through pins to worry about.

Only reason for three stars is I received the product with cosmetic damage from being dropped.

Works great. The locking pin feels like it could be a bit wider but otherwise I love it. I’m a novice at towing so the adjustability of the height has helped make sure the towing has been optimized at all times.

Great fit n easy to use, plus it looks great

First of all I received my order lickity split. Thank You! When I opened the Ball Mount, I used the key and turned it to see the pins slide in. One side slightly moved. The key turned but no response. After working it for what seemed a long time, and pushing with my thumb it now works. But I am still a little skeptical of it. Hard to imagine that little amount of pin on both sides will hold 10,000 lbs. Otherwise, it looks really nice and I just used it to tow a single Seadoo and trailer and it held. The true test will be the big trailer. Sherry:)

Well, I still love the Ball Mount, even thou the first time I took it off the little barrings with the springs, which I believe is the rattle control fell out. Did nt bother to stick them back in since it would happen again. I chased them down the driveway. I have a bolt on the underside of my receiver that I tighten which keeps any rattle happening. I had that installed. It pulls the trailer with no problem. Thanks, Sherry:

Thanks for the follow up Sherry. I am happy to hear that you do have an anti-rattle device that is working well for you. I also wanted to let you know that Diversi-Tech has redesigned this adjustable ball mount. The new design no longer includes the anti-rattle balls that you chased down the driveway.

I have had this trailer mount for a year in Fort Myers, FL. No rust and no concerns at all. I have towed with it about 10 times, various trailers up to 4,000 pounds.

This product is beyond excellent! Thank God for products that are still made in America!

by:

Like most of the reviews on this product, a little skeptical on the locking pin in the receiver. Seems like it should extend out a little further when it’s locked in the receiver.... It is well built and looks great. It’s what I wanted and can’t wait to put it to the test!

by:

Have not used product yet, however customer service was excellent. I had received the wrong ball mount and contacted customer service. Dana was understanding and immediately sent out a return label and the correct ball mount. Couldn't ask for any better. Should be picking up new trailer in a few weeks and can't wait to use all the products I have purchased from etrailer.com

by:

HandyThe adjustable hitch is very handy for me because, I have many trailers, and trucks.
I have one of these hitches on all of my trucks.
These are easy to move up or down.
I purchased the ones that lock.
This is excellent quality.

by:

This unit fit my truck perfectly and does not scrape the ground when I back out of a relatively steep driveway (like the previous unit I ordered). It's good looking, sturdy hitch with convenient features.

by:

Looks better in person. Picture do not do it justice. The mechanism works flawlessly. So far so good. Wish it was a bit lower in price. Can't wait to hitch up the ski.

by:

One receiver 2 balls all heights adjustable and looks good too, what more can you say

by:

This hitch is great! I now don't need to worry as much about a potential theft of my hitch because of the locking mechanism.

by:

This is a quality product! The adusting pins make good positive contact for a tight fit. Etrailer has been great to work with in every aspect.

  • Parts Needed toTow with 2000 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition
To tow trailers with your 2000 Ford Expedition you will need a trailer hitch, wiring, and a ball mount with a hitch ball. If you do not already have a trailer hitch then I recommend going with the Curt Class III # C13049. This has a Gross Trailer Weight Rating (GTW) of 6,000 lbs and a Tongue Weight (TW) rating of 600 lbs. When used with a Weight Distribution (WD) system the GTW is increased to 10,000 lbs and the TW is increased to 1,000 lbs. You will want to check your owner's manual for...

You are on the right track for picking out the correct ball mount. The Self-Locking Adjustable Aluminum Ball Mount, part # DTALBM6600 is a good choice., I believe that you would be better off with the # DTALBM6400. As it could do both the 1 inch and 5 inch drop and would not be be excessively longer than you need. The # DTALBM6600 would work in that regard, but it would be a little longer than you would need so the # DTALBM6400 would be better suited for you. If ground clearance is a...

  • Selecting a Ball Mount and Ball for a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche
One of the most important things to do when towing is to get the trailer and vehicle level. Selecting the appropriate ball mount will allow you to keep the trailer level. We have a page that shows how to find what drop or rise ballmount is needed to keep the trailer level, I have included a link to it. Basically you will measure the height of your hitch and the height of the coupler on the trailer. If the trailer is higher, then you get a ball mount that rises however many inches. The opposite...

Fulton ball mounts, like the # F47CR, are made overseas in China. If you were looking for something American made, you would need to go with something like the Convert-A-Ball # AMSC4.
