Tips for Replacing and Installing Trailer Fenders

  • Do your best to match the dimensions of the new fender to your old one.
    • If a fender was damaged during a blowout, use the opposite fender to get the dimensions.
  • As with all trailer maintenance, don't forget to chock your wheels before getting started.
  • For a bolt-on fender, use your existing mounting hardware, if possible.
    • The old mounting bolts or screws might be stripped or rusted, in which case you'll need to tap them out and buy new hardware.
  • If removing an old, welded-on fender, either carefully chisel it off yourself or take your trailer to a weld shop to have the fender professionally removed.
  • Don't forget to prime and paint the new fender to keep it from rusting (and to match your trailer's finish).
  • Before you start drilling, position the fender where you need it and center it over your wheel well.
    • Mark where you need to drill (measure twice, drill once).
  • Don't tighten down the mounting hardware completely until you're sure the fender is mounted correctly.

Video Transcript for Review of etrailer Trailer Fenders - No Step - HP58VR

Jeff: Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this single axle slant back steel trailer fender for a quantity of one. Now this is designed to cover one tire on the side of your single axle boat trailer. It'll basically act as a splash guard. It helps keep any road debris from hitting other vehicles and helps protect your trailer's cargo.

These slant back design fenders are usually used on boat trailers and when I say slant back design, I'm trying to show you if you look at it here, it's basically wider at the bottom than at the very top here. The reason they designed it that way is to leave enough room for your boat to come onto the trailer while still providing adequate coverage for your tire.If you look on the outer edge of this fender, let me just zoom in here, the outer edge has a nice finished one inch curved radius lip to it. The fender is a sturdy 16 gauge cold rolled steel construction, and it can be primed and then painted to provide even more resistance to corrosion or to match your trailer's paint finish. This is a weld-on or bolt-on installation. Now, if you do bolt it on, it does require mounting brackets.

Now, those we do sell separately. They're part number CE26061G-2. They're usually listed on this product page as a related product. This fender is made in the USA. Specs, it's for a quantity of one fender.

Application is a single axle trailer with 10 inch to 12 inch diameter wheels. As a general rule, when your trailer's loaded to its full capacity, there should be a minimum clearance of about three inches between the top of your tire on the trailer and the underside of your fender.Last thing I'm going to do is give you some dimensions. Weight on this is only about seven pounds. If we measure the length from this end to this end, it's going to be right at 27 inches long. Overall height from the bottom to the very top, right in the middle here, it's 11.5 inches tall.

Then we mentioned it being a slant back, so I want to give you the measurements at the bottom. Let me turn it this way and you'll be able to see right at the bottom is going to be right at about nine inches. Then at the very middle, the top here, it's going to be right about seven and three quarter inches. That should do it for the review on the single axle slant back steel trailer fender for a quantity of one.

Very well made. I added some more bar tacks to bond the backing plate to the fender. It probably would have been fine as is, but for three minutes of effort I know that the two won't separate. I built a T out of 1" tubular steel to mount it to the trailer and there is no flex, once I welded it all together. Arrived clean enough to paint (but I still wiped it down with isopropyl alchohol before painting).Nice heavy gauge fender.

These Trailer Fenders are a quality product which are "rust free". It's hard to find an 8" rust free wheel fender on-line. All stainless steel fenders listed on line require you to paint them so they will not rust. This is because since they were stamped/pressed via large machine press at the manufacturing plant, using a flat sheet of stainless steel. When the sheet is pressed it's damaged and will rust.

by:

I used these steel fenders to replace aluminum fenders on my utility trailer after one had fallen off along the road somewhere. Prior to installing these I painted them with Krylon Fusion gloss hammered metal spray paint, which has held up well.

by:

Great looking and functioning fenders. Really thought I would never find fenders for a 1993 boat mate trailer that would fit but these fenders fit great. Sure made my trailer look better.

by:

These fenders were to replace the rusting out fenders on my Four Winns boat trailer. They really spruced it up! The only "modification" I had to do was add an extra 3/8 nut on both sides between the fender and the trailer frame to make it fit. I used all new stainless steel fasteners.

by:

I put two of these fenders on my canoe trailer. Both broke before I'd gone 1,000 miles.

by:

This is an exact replacement for another product that I previously purchased with a back plate for my father's homemade boat trailer. I lost the fender on a long haul of his boat, but not the back plate. I was able to bolt on the original back plate. I am completely satisfied with this product.

by:

Two new fenders worked out fine. I had replaced the original new fenders on my trailer that I didn't like. I made and welded on my own inner fender out of 16ga material and 11ga floor plate for steps/gussets.

by:

I looked at pretty much every source for purchasing utility trailer fenders in the size range needed. My concerns were tire coverage and fit on a 4x5 trailer. The rounded fenders are far more common than the Jeep style, I found. In the end, these were the best price and concurrently the best gauge of steel - weldable. They look solid. No issues once I laid eyes on the fenders.

by:

Item arrived quickly, well packaged and in perfect shape! Worked perfect for my jetski trailer.

by:

Very nice product for the price. But light metal fenders rattle - we fixed by putting rubber belting material between fender and frame, and then using self-tapping screws on the ends to stabilize. Would have been much happier if these came pre-painted.

by:

Gave an old trailer a new look.

by:

I purchased a setof Single axle trailer fenders for my utility trailer about a year agl. etrailer provided good measurements that I thought would fit the existing mounting brackets and I was happy to see that they were a perfect fit. I cleaned and painted the fenders before I mounted them and after a year they still look great. I am quite pleased with the purchase and the information provided by etrailer.

Worked great. snug but fits 275/75/r18 (~33in) tires so I can match my tow vehicle. overlanding trailer build. Originally done in exterior black semi gloss. After chipping following 3k mi swapped coating to primer + two coats of truck bed liner which has adhered really well. Durable. When well supported they can work as a step for me. I did mod them to bring them down in width to form better for my application (would have been too wide, extending 3in past the tire). Responded well to being trimmed. Applied typical rubber-coated 1/8in edge trim to cut side where that met the trailer wall. While not precisely the right item for my unique/custom application, its durability and workability to fit my project was great.

by:

Quick delivery. Solid metal fender. Easy install with screws or could use L brackets. Great value for price.

by:

I welded and bolted it with mounting brackets on my tow dolly. I painted it with a primer and then a glossy black. Added tail lights and front markers. Good solid fender

Was told order would arrive last Friday. It partially did. Called and was told other fender would be shipped out of another location and would arrive by Tuesday. The first one came smooth, the second ribbed. Need this resolved so I have a match.

by:

I’m very satisfied with the overall outcome of ordering my trailer fenders from the online order process to there timely delivery. Of most importance was the quality of the fenders. They were made of heavy gauge sturdy steel. I’ve been closed some photos showing the final product after painting. I would definitely order again if necessary. Thanks trailer.

by:

I really like the ribbed striations in the fender when I saw it in person. They add a little style to the part and they also add a little strength. I think they'll look very good when painted.

Four stars only because the fenders will need a little attention. The very ends need a little a few minutes of work to flatten them completely. That's a natural problem with rolled steel parts and it's easy enough to fix with a block of wood and a small hammer.

Most people wouldn't bother with this or might not consider it to be a problem at all but I'll square up the ends in just a few minutes before they get installed and painted.

The edges are sharp too. Again, a few minutes to dress them with a sander will get the sharp ends smoothed up. I've never seem a steel trailer fender that didn't need these two touch up items.

They're nice fenders but they aren't quite ready to paint as far as I'm concerned.

The fender worked well for my custom ap plication
