Bottom line up front: This system works but it doesn't.

After a year of use, these are good, but far from perfect. I find the pressure readings of them to be very accurate to my tire gauge. This past summer, I had the "experience" of losing a trailer wheel. It sheered all 6 studs and I lost the whole wheel (I went back and never did find it, thankfully etrailer had an exact replacement wheel!) I'm not quite sure how long I drove after it fell off, but I imagine it wasn't more than 10-15 minutes.

I was noticing the tire pressure and temperature starting to increase on the side that I had lost the wheel on - and that was my alarming factor. My 10,000lb GVWR bumper pull toy hauler with 4400lb axles would average about 120 degrees. On really hot days I would see it go up to 130 but not much more than that.

Cold tire pressure was 80 and they usually run at 85PSI or so on the road. I noticed the other wheel starting to climb to 90-92PSI and the temp going up to 135, and the other three were at the usual 120 degrees or so. Right about that same time, a trucker honked at me and I pulled over to see I had no wheel.

So now the million dollar question, right? How in the world did I lose the ENTIRE WHEEL, yet the system never alerted me that it wasn't reading info from the wheel I lost? GREAT QUESTION!!!

After I got the studs replaced, I'm back on the road. The system didn't turn red and start beeping at me until another 15 minutes of driving down the road - Obviously I did not have a TPMS sensor installed on my spare tire, so it should have alerted me that there was no reading detected right away.

Tuson had a lackluster response on this with something along the lines of "the TPMS sensor only sends an update once a minute to save battery life". Well that's fantastic, so why the heck didn't it start beeping at me a minute after I lost the wheel?

One year later: Still using this system. Its nice to know your PSI at a glance, but as stated in my original review, its not a substitute for keeping tabs on your trailer when towing. You should take time to learn how your trailer looks from your mirrors, because in the event of a flat or lost wheel, one side of the trailer will be lower in the mirror than normal. I also find the re-programming of the wheel sensors to the control box a bit of a PITA. So now, rather than rotating my trailer tires, I find myself flipping the tire on the rim so that the specific wheel drivers front, drivers rear, etc stays in the same spot but I still get the tire rotation done for the most even tire wear possible.

I'm very glad I bought this. While headed down the freeway I started hearing some very low beeping(not knowing there's adjustable volume on this unit, that has now been turned up). I stopped and noticed the right rear tire icon being red, and was able to use my portable compressor to make it home before doing tire damage.

by:

Well worth the money. I needed a system that monitored over 100 psi, as well as accommodate the large diameter (5/8”) valve stems. That alone eliminated many of the other systems on the market. The included repeater makes it suitable for longer trailers. (RV @ 40+ feet) Great for peace of mind along the way. Highly recommended!

Works very well. I stalled this on a 2023 KZ Durango Gold 5th wheel that is 43' in length. Picked up all four times within seconds of moving and gave very accurate info throughout the entire trip (3.5 hours). This is an automotive-grade sensor kit and works very well. Installation is not hard. Just have to find a tire shop that will install the sensors for you. I was able to find one that did it for me at a very reasonable rate. I paid $10 per tire so $40 total for the installation. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to install a TPMS system in their RV

The Tuson TPMS works well on our travel trailer. I had the sensors installed in the wheels when purchasing new tires, and installed the relay and wiring to the battery myself. As a mechanical engineer, I liked that this uses standard automotive type internal sensors, and I wanted to be able to get reliable internal temperature readings just as much as pressure, in order to keep an eye on the wheel bearings in addition to the tires. The system has worked flawlessly for a year now. I also like that the display in the cab can be turned "off" but still will alert you if out of limits, if the display itself is too distracting (it hasn't been). Very pleased with the system.

by:

Worked very well, gave me peace of mind driving down the road, installed on 5th wheel camper.

by:

This product has worked well and as intended. I like that it has its own display and so I don't need to use my phone screen. I wish that the trailer had come with these installed, but since it didn't, these are the best type of retrofit that you can get - mounted to the wheel on the internal side of the vale stem (same as the original equipment would have been). They are not cheap, but they have worked as they we designed and I would get them again. The peace of mind from having a functioning TPMS, especially with a tandem axle trailer, is really great and in my opinion, worthwhile.

by:

We love the Tuson Tire Monitoring System. Installation requires breaking the tire down to install the sensor but the rest of the installation was really easy. The kit comes with everything needed and straightforward instructions. The display is very clear and easy to read. It scrolls through 3 different data fields; Tire Pressure, Tire Temperature, and Trailer Battery Voltage.

by:

It works as advertised. After a minute of struggle at the beginning, and excellent customer support, I've put over 9000 miles on this system. It works well...perfectly.

by:

I purchased the Tuson TPMS system because I wanted an internal tire sensor, not a external stem cap type.
I bought the interchangable valve stems because I was going to get new rims for my trailer and didn't know what size would work.
The tire store ended up putting their own stems in because the rims I got were to thick for the Tuson stems.
The hardest part was figuring out there are physical buttons on the side of the receiver, not touch buttons on the screen.
I also installed the power to a fused switch for my electric hitch lift so I can turn off transmitter when parked.

I like the information the unit provides. Besides tire individual tire pressure, you also get temperature of sensor (which can indicate a low tire or hot wheel bearing), and voltage to transmitter unit (which lets me know if the trailer wiring is connected to pickup as voltage is higher when being charged by pickup).

System is expensive, but worth it because of the internal sensors and convenience.

Only complaint is it seems that sensors can't be cloned for replacement.
Would I buy again, yes. I have recommended this system to all my friends that have trailers.

I tow a 29' travel trailer, and we just returned home from a 2-week trip where the Tuson TPMS system performed extremely well. This system replaced my previous TPMS system that had the sensors that screw on to the outside of the valve stems. I used to have to wait until I turned at a sharp enough angle for the dash mounted receiver to pick up the signal...not anymore!
Prior to our trip, I installed the repeater before the tire shop installed the sensors, and the receiver did not acknowledge the trailer battery voltage signal. I even moved the receiver to within a foot of the repeater, still no signal. After the four sensors were installed, everything worked perfectly. I even fudged on the repeater location (directions tell you to mount horizontally under the trailer tongue, I mounted vertically where there was a convenient pre-drilled hole) with no ill effects. The TPMS display cycles between tire pressure, tire temperature, and trailer battery voltage at reasonable intervals. I strongly recommend for ease of installation (thanks tire shop guys) and ease of use.

  • Does Tuson RV TPMS System Work Better on Steel or Aluminum Wheels
The Tuson RV and Trailer TPMS System # 335TPMS4WIVS that you referenced will work equally well on steel or aluminum wheels. I verified this with my contact at Tuson RV. He said that the valve stems use a rubber grommet to seal to the valve stem hole so the valve stem itself doesn't even make contact with the wheel. Because of this the wheel's construction has no impact on the sensors for this system. I have attached a short video review and the complete installation manual that you can...

  • What PSI Range Should TPMS for Trailer be Set at if Tire is Rated for 110 PSI
Hey Kevin, so here's a fun fact...when you are driving on the highway the pressure will increase one PSI every five minutes in the first 20 minutes of driving. So what that means is you'd see about 115 psi if the tires were inflated to 110. So I would probably set the max of your sensor setup to 120ish and the minimum to maybe like 90 or so? There isn't a set number but this would work well.
