Matt: Hey guys Matt here at etrailer.com. Today were going to be taking a quick look at the Curt 21 Inch extension piece for the Curt Rooftop Cargo Basket, part number C18117. Now this extension piece will give you an additional 21 inches to your existing Curt Rooftop Cargo Basket. You can see its made of the same heavy duty, strong steel construction. It has that nice black powder-coat finish to help resist rust and corrosion. It also comes with the hardware and tools so that you can install it directly to your existing Curt Rooftop Cargo Basket. Now one thing to keep in mind when purchasing this extension you want to make sure that the roof or basically how youre vehicle is engineered so that youre going to have enough space. For example here we had to push the basket a little bit farther close to the front just to make sure that we can get access to the rear hatch.
Now it is kind of close on this vehicle so again just something to really keep in mind when youre deciding to purchase this extension. So with the extension the overall basket dimensions are going to be 62-1/2 inches long by 37 inches wide by 4 inches deep. Now well go ahead and load up some gear and take it out on the road. Now with our gear all loaded up well be using the 65 inch by 38 inch Curt stretchable cargo net to secure our gear in place. This is part number C18201. Now with our gear all secured we can go ahead and take it out on the road. That will complete todays review of the Curt Roof Mounted Cargo Basket Extension, part number C18117.

Add onto your Curt roof-mounted cargo basket (C18115) with this 21" long extension.This really increases the carrier capacity (size, not weight) and now accepts my carry bags without them hanging over the edges.
I have bought the Curt Roof mount cargo basket 2 weeks prior to a trip, so we could carry more to and not be so cramped in my Subaru Forester. However, the original one I bought seems a little small. So I bought this extender for it, and it worked out great. they shipped it immediately, and delivery was very fast. Easy to assemble and would recommend to anyone who has a shorter basket.
I bought the Curt roof top basket and mounted it to my 13 JK. I wanted it lower than the offered brackets would allow so I made my own mounting kit. I worked great and looks much better low to the roof.
Loved the price and the look. I had a very difficult time tightens the attachment brackets that connect the carrier to the roof. The lock nuts on two of them were extremely hard to tighten. I had to use vice grips on two of them. One of the plastic pieces broke that cover the lock nut.
A real bargain to extend your storage basket.

Pretty good. A few minor rust spots that need touching up with paint, but then again, I drive this on the salt water beach all summer.
This extension really looks great with the core basket. Great quality. Simple installation.
This cargo basket arrived in 2 separate boxes. Both boxes were not inside of any additional packaging and had received a fair amount of rips and holes prior to arriving, though the products inside did not appear to have received damage.
Upon installing the basket, I discovered that one of the pieces was swapped for a duplicate of another piece and so everything I needed was not there. Reaching out to support, I was sent a replacement part after some back and forth to explain the issue.
After I was able to install the basket, I discovered that there was a unreasonable high-pitched, loud whine when driving at highway speeds. Because of this, I decided that returning this product was my best option. The return process was disappointing due to significant fees.
Works well. Brackets that attach to rails dont fit perfectly. But, it's secure and works.
The product itself is great.
The hardware (machine screws), as noted in many reviews, are sub-par and the heads strip very easily with the tool provided.
The manufacturer is likely aware of this ongoing issue and should address it by utilizing stainless steel screws/hardware for durability and rust prevention...I had to spend an additional $10 to bring it up to par...
So this is not at all an issue for etrailer, as you delivered as promised and at a great price!

One year later and still going strong! Having replaced the screws as mentioned in my initial review, the cargo rack is easily converted to the longer rack when used on my larger vehicle. No rust and strong, this rack is a worthwhile investment.
Shipped with the complete rack that I'm wondering if these parts aren't stolen! Ordered another part from a jeep company and their product hasn't even shipped yet. Etrailer even called me when there was a small issue with my credit card; their customer service representative was fantastic and went above and beyond is making sure was my order was processed and would ship as ordered. Product is top notch and better than some car roof racks I've seen a jeep functions.

Cargo basket is top notch! Looks great on my Jeep Cherokee, and is tough enough to survive the brutal North Dakota winters.

The basket and extension are fantastic. Have used it multiple times. Great product. A little wind noise when empty going down the road. Other than that, no complaints.
