  • Safe working load limit (WLL): 1,667 lbs
  • Maximum load (break strength): 5,000 lbs
  • Quantity: 2 ratchet straps

Note: Tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the straps being used. For example, if you are using straps with a WLL of 500 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 1,000 lbs, then you need at least 2 straps to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out these tactical ratchet straps from SmartStraps. These are gonna be great for those things like hauling vehicles. So we got this ATV or a side-by-side. You can strap those down. You want something just a little more higher grade than normal because it's got the wheels so it can roll back and forth.

You're wanting to make sure that something's gonna get 'em nice and tight and hold it there, and these look like they can do the job. Let's check 'em out. Taking a look at the ratcheting mechanism itself, you can kinda see why they call it tactical. It's kinda got that vibe going on with it, and also you can see there's plenty of room for that grip. That way you grab this handle, there's gripping all the way around there, so no matter what, you get a solid grip on it to ratchet it down, and then you got plenty of room to your fingers in here for the release, too, 'cause with these ratchet mechanisms, sometimes these are little bit smaller, so it's harder to get your fingers in there to get that torque, to get that tightened down, or to even release it, sometimes you have to reach in there with one finger and barely get it on there just to release.

This one's got plenty of room. I really like that. The all-black finish, too, is really nice, too. Now let's check out how it actually works. Let me get rid of the hook and loop here that ties up the extra strap.

That way it's not hanging out back here flying around in the wind while you're driving. So to release it, you'll pull up on this mechanism here, that's the release. And at the same time, we'll do this, push down on this one with our other finger, and that kinda just lets it go and get some slack in the strap there, now it's loose. Now to tighten it up, I'm gonna pull up on this strap. That way it stays out of the way so I can ratchet it.

But as I ratchet it, listen and you'll hear that it's a little quieter than other ratchet straps, which is not necessarily a bad thing. So you could still hear it and you can still see this snapping, but it wasn't super loud. I wanna make sure I feel it when I'm doing this so I can feel the tension that's being built up by ratcheting it, but I don't mind that it's quiet. It doesn't need to be super loud, I just wanna hear that it's working. Moving down towards the hook, wanna point out the reinforced stitching here. That's really gonna help make sure this never comes apart or it gets damaged on you. It's gonna hold up to that pull and that tension that you put on there when you ratchet it down. That's the other thing that's good about the double J hooks here, too, since it's reinforced with two of 'em so you're gonna be able to have that extra strength, so when you do strap it down, ratchet it down, pulls on there really tight, you don't have to worry about it being just one J hook. You got two, so it's double reinforced. It's gonna be fine. Something else I like about the ratcheting mechanism is it's got this rubber outline on it, so it goes all the way around the handle and up on this part. That way, if it does come in contact with something you're hauling, let's say we're using it to haul furniture or something, something big, heavy, you wanna get it tightened down, you don't want this to scratch it up or damage it if you we're to unratchet it, went to hit or something like that. Now that is flat metal on this side, so it's not exactly protected here, but if you can just get it angled right to where if this part is resting here on the furniture or something delicate, you don't have to worry about it digging in there. The strap's gonna be 14 feet long, it's gonna be an inch and a half wide, and it's made out of a polyester webbing, so it's gonna be strong and hold up when you've got your stuff strapped down. Speaking of strapping things down, it can handle a safe working load limit of 1,667 pounds. And then it has a break strength of 5,000 pounds. So just stay under that 1,667 pounds, and you should be all right. And those weight ratings are per strap, and this is a two-strap kit, so when you buy this, you'll get two of 'em, one for the front, one for the back on this ATV. If you're gonna be hauling something different, you need some more straps, just kinda think about what you're wanting to tie down and strap down to a trailer or whatever you're strapping down and how many straps you're gonna need. Recommendation, it does say that it comes with a carrying case, the big plastic thing that you take the straps out of, we kinda didn't find it very useful. I didn't get the straps back in there. It didn't seem like something that I was gonna do over time. I might do it one time and just be, like, I'm not doing that anymore, but we do have a yellow etrailer bag that we have on the website that's great for storing these straps. We always recommend it for any ratchet straps or any kind of straps you buy. It's just nice to keep 'em nice and neat in one little package. It zips up, then you'll always know where it is. Plus, it's bright yellow, so wherever you put it, you're gonna be able to find 'em when you need 'em. Overall, I think it's a really good ratchet straps that worked pretty well. I liked the quiet way that they ratchet down. They weren't quite as loud as the other ones, but you could still hear 'em, so that's good to know and feel that tension as you're getting your stuff down. I can push this back and forth. You see 'em shaking the whole trailer and vehicle. This isn't moving at all, so I'm confident that it's gonna stay on the trailer wherever I'm transporting it. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out, and I hope this helped..

Great product info on page and very prompt delivery. On unboxing, straps seem very sturdy and well built, as advertised. There are no instructions on how to thread the straps, so if you are not familiar with ratchet straps that will take you a little interwebs research. Awaiting delivery of my UTV, so will update after I get a chance to use them real world.
