Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Kinedyne Ratchet Tie-Down Strap with the Flat Hooks. Now, this is considered a heavy duty tie-down strap that easily lets you secure large cargo in your truck bed or trailer. It has nice, large ratcheting mechanism. This unit makes it very easy to tighten down the strap and maintain tension on the strap. You will notice that it has the easy-to-access release lever right there and it has the long, wide handle. It really eases operation so it allows you to get a good grip on it.

That way you can easily get things tightened down as needed. Right here it's got a rolled area which gives it an easy-grip design and the wide access area makes it very easy to operate even if you have gloves on.The ratcheting mechanism is made from a steel construction and as you can see, it does have that yellow protective coating on it to keep it protected from rust and corrosion. Now when it comes to the strap, we're looking at a sturdy polyester and that's bright yellow so it's easily visible. All the capacities that you need to know are printed right on the strap itself so it has a working load limit of 3,335 pounds. It's also got some stitching here on the side so that's going to help it stay protected from side abrasions or side tears.

Overall it just seems like a really nice design. The strap measures 2 inches wide by 27 feet long. The hooks are made from steel and they have protective finishing on them, it looks like a powder coating, to keep them safe from rust and corrosion as well. Those have a width measurement of about 2-5/8 inches, right in that area. When you're ready to use it, it's pretty easy to do. The flat hook design is great for anchoring the strap to rails, edges or other similar tie-down points.

I also want to point out that your ratcheting mechanism does have a slot back here so it can be installed permanently. You could actually bolt this to the side of your trailer if desired or you could keep it unbolted and have a transportable ratchet strap. But when you're ready to use it you basically have your lead off of the ratcheting mechanism so this would attach to an attachment point or anchor point. Then when you're ready to tighten down the strap and secure your gear, basically you would take your strap, place it over your load. Take one end of the strap, place it through the ratcheting mechanism and then you can just start pulling out the slack until all the slack is pulled out. Then you grab the release lever and you just start tightening down the load.

Whatever excess strap you have you can safely secure to the trailer, to the rest of the strap itself. You just want to get it tied off so that way it doesn't get damaged as you go down the road and you don't have to worry about it flapping in the wind. When you're ready to release the tension, that way you can unload your gear, you take the ratcheting mechanism, press the release lever and you want to open it up all the way until it's flat like that. That's going to allow you to release any tension and release the strap and remove it from the ratcheting mechanism itself. Also, basically this unit has three positions. So you have the fully open position which allows you to release that tension. Then you have the middle position which is your ratcheting position and then you have the all the way down position which is the locked position which is what you'd want it in when you're going down the road or when you're driving around. Now, please keep in mind that tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit. The weight of the secure cargo must not exceed the combined working load limit of the straps being used. That's going to do it for today's look at the Kinedyne Ratchet Tie-down Strap with Flat Hooks.

I used these the day they arrived to hold down a bunch of boxed steel equipment on a flatbed trailer. Excellent product. Kinodyne has an excellent rep, so I assumed the strength would be as claimed (obviously, they didn't break on me ...) even though they are apparently now made in China. The possible glitch might have been the quality of the steel hardware. But that was all good. The "long wide" ratchets operate smoothly and as demonstrated in etrailer's video.
