I prefer to leave the plow mounted all winter, since it's such a pain to remount in a hurry for each storm. But the stock Ford fan clutch was too weak to drive the fan with the plow mounted, and quickly burned out - after which I couldn't drive more than 30mph with the plow mounted without overheating. After a while I drilled a pin through the clutch to get a hard drive for the fan which solved the overheating problem but replaced it with a belt slippage problem - couldn't rev the engine over 3000 rpm without slipping. Finally last year I replaced the stock fan with the Derale flex fan. PROBLEM SOLVED. Now I can leave the plow on all winter, drive 75 mph without overheating, and run the engine to redline without belt slippage. PERFECT!
