Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Yakima replacement SkyBox barrel nut. This is going to replace a missing or damaged barrel nut on the mounting hardware for your Yakima SkyBox rooftop box. This is going to work with the SkyBox model numbers that you see on the screen there or part numbers that you see on the screen. So if you have any of those, you can trust this is gonna work for you because it is a direct replacement from Yakima, so you're not gonna have to worry about compatibility issues or anything like that. Just to give you a little extra reassurance, you can see this is right about an inch and a quarter in length and just under half an inch in diameter.

These are easy to lose if you loosen them too much in the box. Replacement did the trick and I ordered an extra or two.

Still going strong- Ill let you know after my upcoming trip to WV.
Received my product in a very reasonable time via US mail.
It was a small part for my Yamaha Skybox, but important to me.
I would use etrailer again.
The part itself is a part of a poor design by Yamaha. They could have easily made the casing for the part such that the little part would not easily fall out.
Otherwise the Skybox is great.

After a year the Yamaha Skybox is as good as new. It does require another person to help me put it on my Outback, but it is light - just awkward for one.
Cam bearing plates and barrel nuts were exactly as described and service from etrailer is great. If you have a Yakima Sky Box and use it in cold weather, I would recommend getting extra bearing plates as they can crack. Also if you put the SkyBox on and off your car, some extra barrel nuts might be useful as well. That's what happened to me - putting the SkyBox up in the garage, a barrel bolt fell out and could not find it. Luckily I had a temporary nut to get me through until I got the replacements. One note, replacing the barrel nut is not as easy as you would think. It took me almost an hour to replace two barrel bolts as the design on the SkyBox is not great - you would think an industrial engineer would design the arm that grabs the cross rail so that the barrel bolt could only go in one way and that the tightening nut from inside the box could only enter into the bolt opening but no - you have to do trial and error and lots of it before the nut actually engages the bolt. It's a bit maddening. So after you get that on, do not loosen the arm too much or you will lose the bolt and you'll have a heck of a time replacing it.

Ive had several products over the years and this one seems to work out the best so far. Ill be needing one for the other side of my SUV and Im leaning for the same one so far.
