Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. In addition, you do not have to worry about an electric fan's slowing down at low RPM, as many belt-driven fans do, so you are guaranteed sufficient airflow regardless of the vehicle speed.

Before purchasing an electric fan, be sure to determine the CFM (cubic feet per minute) requirements for your engine. And remember, engines that have been modified or vehicles often used for towing may require additional CFM. There is no limit to the number of fans you can install, as long they all fit appropriately and are mounted on the same side of your radiator so that they do not cancel each other out.

Two types of turn-on sources are available for this fan. The Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans (D16740) allows for manual control of your fan so that you can choose when to turn it on and off. Thermostatic controls, on the other hand, send a signal to the fan, directing it to shut off when fluid temperatures reach an appropriate level, thus saving power. Once the temperature climbs again and additional cooling is needed, the fan is automatically turned back on. Thermostat switches can be single-stage with pre-set temperatures - D16735, D16738, D16739, D16720 and D16721 - or adjustable - D16778 and D16779.

  • Can Derale 17 Inch Stainless Steel Flex Fan # D17617 Be Used on 1955 Ford with 351 Motor
From the information that I was able to obtain for a 351 motor, a reverse rotation flex fan like part # D17617 would not work with your motor but I do have a solution. I am assuming that you were looking to use a flex fan to avoid engine overload and boost the mileage and horsepower in your slammed 1955 Ford. Instead I recommend taking a look at an electric fan. You'll want to measure to see exactly how much space you have available. For example the Derale 32 inch Dual Tornado Electric...

  • Will an Engine Oil Cooler Help Bring Down Engine Temperature on a 1970 Plymouth Cuda
The Derale Stacked-Plate Engine Oil Cooler, # D15604, that you mentioned would be a good addition to help cool the engine oil in your 1970 Cuda. An oil cooler like # D15604 should provide you with a drop in your water temperatures. Most likely it would be a drop between 10-20 degrees but it really depends on the vehicle and how much airflow the cooler gets. I would recommend checking the specifications for cooling your specific 5.7 liter Hemi engine and going with the manufacturer recommendation...

  • Depth Dimension Of Derale 32 Inch Dual Tornado Electric Fan
The attached drawing of the Derale 32 inch Dual Tornado Electric Fan Assembly, part # D16834 has the mounting brackets attached. With the brackets attached, the overall depth is 1-3/4 inches. This is intended for tight areas as you said you have. The hardware is not included that you would need to mount the fan to the vehicle. I also recommend the Derale 40/60-Amp Dual Relay Wiring Harness for Dual Fan Assembly, part # D16765, since the fan does draw more than 10 amps. This will help...

  • Can Electric Radiator Fan Replace Factory Unit on 2005 Chevy Express Van
If you have the space available, you should be able to replace the factory belt-driven fan on your Chevy Express 3500 with an electric fan like the Derale 32 Inch Dual Tornado # D16834. This particular model fan can be mounted on either side of the radiator, as a pusher or a puller. Its overall dimensions are 31-3/4 inches wide, 15-5/8 inches tall, and 3-1/4 inches deep. Because a belt-driven fan will use up power from the engine to turn, an electric fan will be an improvement with regards...

  • How to Determine the Best Electric Radiator Fan for a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5.7 Liter
The electric fans we carry are not vehicle specific. You have to determine how much space is available in the area you want to install a fan or fans. The 4000 cubic feet per minute fans we carry, see link to the right, are the highest output we have available. Depth is probably going to be the biggest concern. Electric fans # D16934 are the thinnest overall at 3-1/4 inches deep. The next step down in terms of air flow is # D16834 at 2700 cubic feet per minute. But it is also only 1-3/4...

  • Cooling Options For Chevy Express 3500 When Towing a 30 Foot Travel Trailer
Since you have already added an aftermarket transmission cooler to your Chevy Express 3500, you can make sure you have it mounted in the most efficient location for cooling. The ideal place to mount an aftermarket transmission cooler is behind the front grille but in front of the radiator of your vehicle. Adding an electric fan like the item you selected, Derale Radiator Fans, part # D16834, will help reduce engine temperatures and would be a good option. You will need to measure to make...

  • What Radiator Fan Assembly and Dual Filter Oil Kit will Work with a 2006 Toyota Tundra
The Derale electric fan assemblies are universal fit items. They are not vehicle specific, you would just need to measure your new radiator to see if it will accommodate this fan assembly. The assembly you were looking at measures 31-3/4 inches wide, 15-5/8 inches tall and 1-3/4 inches deep. Measure your new radiator to see if it will accommodate this assembly. If you do not think it will fit, write back with the measurements and I can see if I can help you find a solution. We do have...
