Why Fold-Down Steps are Right for You

If you've ever stepped into a camper that has standard metal steps, you've probably felt that scary springboard effect that makes you reach for the handle. That bounce occurs because those pull-out steps never touch the ground. Fold-down steps have adjustable legs that steady the steps on the ground, so you can feel safe using them. Also, fold-down steps store behind your camper door, which means they aren't left out in the elements to rust or warp like factory steps.

MORryde StepAbove vs. Lippert SolidStep

But what makes these MORryde steps different from other fold-down steps, like the Lippert SolidSteps? The StepAbove has a couple advantages over the SolidStep.

First, the MORryde steps can be detached when you need park your camper in tight spots. If you have to park close to another vehicle in a storage lot, for example, there might not be enough clearance to deploy your steps. With SolidStep, this means that you can't deploy the steps and now they are blocking your entryway. MORryde steps can be easily detached by sliding the pins out of the floor hinges, which allows you to lift the steps out of the doorway so you can slip inside if needed.

Second, unlike the SolidSteps which have a solid backplate on the top step, the StepAbove has no backplates blocking the gaps between each step. This makes it easy to sweep the steps free of dirt and debris before folding them up in your doorway, so you aren't stuck cleaning up your entry after every hike or trip.

Will MORryde StepAbove Entry Steps Work for You?

Fold-down steps are typically installed on travel trailers and 5th wheels. The fold-down steps from MORryde install inside your camper's door frame and lift up to latch into the doorway for storage. To ensure that you choose the correct size for your application, follow these 3 easy steps:

Step 1: Measure the Entry Height

Measuring your RV entry height

Measure from the doorway threshold on your camper to the ground. For these steps to work, you will need an entry height between 36-1/2" and 42".

If you find that you have a smaller entry height, there are other step assemblies that fit entry heights ranging from 25" to 42". (See table below.)

Step 2: Measure the Doorway Width

Measuring your RV doorway width

Measure from the inside of your door flange to the inside of the door flange on the opposite side. Your doorway will need to be between 27-3/4" wide and 30-1/4" wide for these steps to work.

If it turns out that you have a wider or narrower doorway, there are other step assemblies that fit doorways ranging from 21-3/4" wide to 30-1/2" wide. (See table below.)

Step 3: Measure the Threshold

Measuring your RV threshold height

Measure the rise of your threshold. The distance between the floor and top of the threshold must be between 5/8" and 3/4". If the height of your threshold is outside of this range, the doors may not close properly.

Measuring your RV threshold gap

To allow room for the hinge plate, there must be a gap of at least 3/8" between the threshold and the bottom of the entry and screen doors. If the gap is too narrow, the doors may not close while the steps are down.

Find the Step that Works for You

If, after taking your camper's measurements, you find that these steps will not work for you, use the table below to determine which part number you need.

Great product. A lot safer and solid than the trampoline steps on my raptor. Very easy to install and only took 20 minutes. They’re worth the price.

@James Awesome, we're glad you're happy with your # MR28RR RV steps.

by:

So much better than the bouncy steps that came on my 2008 5th wheel. These steps are sturdy. Kind of wish I would have gotten the "lift assist".

by:

Super easy install. Huge upgrade to our Grand Design 5th wheel. Much more stable than the original 3 step.

by:

I have used etrailer for equipment for my campers and trucks for several years. Their customer service is excellent. I have had 2 orders which arrived, damaged with parts missing. Each of them has been an item that was returned by another customer. That being said, when I contacted etrailer, they quickly responded and sent me undamaged gear. A Lady named Diana was the most recent person to help me. She did a wonderful job. I have also used their expert advice when searching for the correct items. If they improved their inspection of returned items prior to reshipping, I would rate them higher than 5 stars.

by:

I love the steps and the ease of installation. Unfortunately the package was damaged in delivery with minor damage.

by:

I really enjoy the steps that I purchase.
The
only problem that I have is when I purchased them I was told that if I wanted to I could add on the easy lift. After I received the steps I went to order easy lift and they said that it is not an accessory. If I would’ve known that before I ordered it I would’ve ordered the one with the lift kit. So I feel that I was lied to.

I will reach out to you directly. I contacted MORryde and you can add the strut assist as long as certain requirements are met. We do not carry the strut assist currently on site as the measurements needed are specific.

The stairs that I purchased are working out OK. Like my last review, I was told when I purchased the stairs that I could buy the accessory strut so they would lift easy. The last customer service representative sent me information on how to get that accessory part. Did not give me a part number or any more information only told me how to install the stairs. The stairs are not very heavy to lift. But if I would’ve known that I could not get the accessory because the salesman told me that I could get it after the purchase I would’ve bought the easy lift stairs. I’m happy with the MORryde stairs, but I’m very dissatisfied with E Trailer’s customer service. I feel like I was misled when I purchased the stairs.

by:

Super fast shipping as usual from etrailer. MORryde steps were quick and easy to install. Camper no longer rocks when someone goes in and out. Dogs and kids have a much easier time going up and down the stairs.

by:

Just installed for winter here in NM but they feel very stable and awesome. We look forward to utilizing them next spring and summer! Took some modifications but nothing I couldn’t handle

by:

Good product a lot heavier steps and more stable to go in and out of camper very easy to install
etrailer great people and service to do business with

by:

Installed in less than an hour and a HUGE overall improvement over the factory POS flip out stairs. The storage box could have been bigger - lots of room for it - but does fill the opening where the factory stairs were nicely.

by:

Appears to be a great product. Easy to install and works as advertisied

We have been more than pleased with the steps. They are easy to use and easy to adjust if the ground is uneven. We really like the larger top step.

@Ron We're glad you're happy with your # MR28RR RV steps!

by:

When I made my order, I was quickly notified by the representative that these steps had not made it in yet, but would keep me informed and gave me an alternative set to consider. I chose to wait for this set as it would be a better fit. They kept me informed and my order came in quickly. Thanks and good Job ! I will be back.

by:

Easy to install. Over all great product. Shipping took longer than expected but the box was in good shape and there were no damages.

by:

Mike is a very down to earth guy just like most Midwesterners are. Very helpful and knowledgeable of the product i purchased. Will be useing ya'll again.

Oh and he speaks English!!!!
Thanks

by:

Very happy with the stairs I got for my 5th wheel. Once ordered, they were on my porch in 2 days. Easy to install and fit perfectly. I would absolutely order other products from this company.

by:

Steps installed easy but think measurements should be revamped, my measurements were by the sheet and I feel steps should of been shorter to allow more flexibility in ground clearance

Martin

10/7/2022

Very well

by:

Could not be installed without significant modification to
bottom of the door and/or door threshold. Would be careful
ordering this product as many such reviews and etrailer charges significant return shipping / restocking fee.

by:

Product arrived bent. Probably shipping company’s fault and not etrailers. Box was also open (tape opened) upon arrival so I don’t know if I’m missing anything that may have fell out of the box. But it’s useable as far as I can tell, after I fix the bent hinge.

I will definitely have our customer service team reach out so that we can have this taken care of quickly for you.

by:

Easiest installation ever. Amazing support and easy to use. Dogs are going to love these vs the bouncy old steps.

by:

stairs are very sturdy. a little hard to get in at the grocery store or gas station but as far as the camp site, I love these stairs. I always hated when I was either on the couch or bed and could feel every step from others exiting, but theses stairs you can jump on (Literally) and not bother anyone.

by:

We have a 38' 5th wheel and the stock 3 step just want cutting it. We tried adding a platform step, but it still wasn't enough. After both me and my wife slipped down the stairs when our shoes were wet, we said not more! Worth the $$$. Great purchase!!!

  • Determining The Correct Replacement Fold-Down Steps For A 2022 Keystone Montana High Country 337FL
To replace your damaged steps I would need to know the entry height and doorway width in order to find the correct size. To measure for entry height you'll need to level the trailer and then measure from the ground up to the top of the threshold. For entry width you'll measure the space between the door frame flanges. For example, part # MR28RR you were looking at has a 27-3/4" - 30-1/4" entry width range and 36-1/2" - 42" entry height range. Once we have these dimensions I can then look...
