Will Lippert Pull-Out Steps Work for You?

Pull-out steps are typically installed on travel trailers. The pull-out steps from Lippert are easy to install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

AlumiTread Mounting

The Lippert pull-out steps attach to the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the door frame, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 27-1/2" wide and 12-3/16" deep.

If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 25-1/2" wide to 28" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.

RV Steps Outriggers

Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.

Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

AlumiTread Entry Height

To determine how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 6" to 9" to account for the drop from the bottom step to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.

The chart below displays entry height measurements in the first column. If you determined you need a 25-1/2" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the second column. If you determined you need a 25-3/4" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the third column. The steps for 27-1/2" mounting bracket widths are in the fourth column, and the steps for 28" mounting bracket widths are in the fifth column. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

This page's step assembly is in bold text.

  1. Make sure the camper is level on flat ground
  2. Lift the steps into the mounting space and prop into place
  3. If needed, mark the mounting holes on the camper and drill

    -Set aside steps before drilling

  4. If needed, install the outriggers
  5. Align step mounting holes and secure in place with bolts and flange lock nuts

-Make sure the bracket is backed up fully against the I-beam on the chassis

    -Hardware not included

  6. Tighten hardware until snug
  7. Make sure assembly is sitting square and level
  8. Torque the hardware to 20 ft-lbs

These replaced the older model steps that were installed on my 2018 Grand Design Imagine 2150RB travel trailer. Those had the cast aluminum step frames which had corroded causing the paint to peel. The stainless steel bolts were seized in the aluminum steps so instead of fighting to take them apart I decided to replace them.

These steps are the specified replacement for my existing steps by both Lippert and Grand Design and look like they will bolt right in. Unfortunately the steps suffered minor scuffs and scratches during shipping that removed the paint. The steps are packed in a single wall cardboard box with nothing to prevent rubbing between the cardboard and the finish. In addition they weigh 60 pounds and the metal corners poke through the box and get bent over slightly during handling and transit. I am having to do metal straightening and touch-up paint to all of the damage paint areas before I can install them which is costing me an extra couple days of repair time. Luckily the damage was superficial but given the packaging for the steps it could have been much worse. I included photos showing wear through of the box and areas where I've primed damaged paint areas.

Perfect replacement. Same steps it cam with. Shipped quickly in factory box

by:

The Alum-tread steps are the perfect replacement for the worn and rickety OEM steps on our fifth wheel. They are well built, easier to use and seem to be sturdier.
etrailer’s prices and service has always been exceptional. I recommend them and will order from them again.

After a year of use the Alum-tread steps are still working well. I recommend this product.

We just got home and open up the box for these stairs. These stairs cannot be used. They are damaged in several areas and I have taken pictures.

by:

Ordering process was easy!! The Website is well designed and user friendly, and the packaging came as ordered on time, and in perfect condition. I will recommend etrailer to anyone needing parts in the future!!

by:

Had a shoulder bolt break on my alumi-tread steps. Unable to find parts to repair them, I started looking for the best price I could find to replace them. On etrailer website I found some used steps that were the same as mine. After talking to Lazer, I decided to order a set that I could use for parts. They came very quickly, but on inspection I discovered that I could not use them for parts. Even though they had the same part number and looked the same, they were constructed differently. Online the steps were described as being scratched and dirty, but I decided that they didn't look any worse than the ones on my camper. Took me about an hour to remove the old steps and install the "new" ones. I would caution anyone in my situation to be careful, Lippert has made changes. Fortunately, the frame is identical and bolt patterns are the same. I feel fortunate that I didn't have to buy a new set of steps because of a broken bolt. My thanks to Lazer and etrailer!

After considerable use these steps are still working just fine, with no problems. Cant imagine why they were used.

by:

I just recieved my steps in a lot quicker than i expected, etrailer even called to verify my address, because it was an RV park. The steps were delivered right to my site. I just installed them it took me 30 min, but I already previously moved the old steps. Since my last steps were the same brand different model it bolted right up. The biggest challenge is the can be awkward and heavy. I am very pleased so far with my first experience with etrailer!

The stairs were a great product. They have been sturdy. We lived inn the camper for 4 months this year.

by:

As in the past, etrailer is the best. Always competitive pricing, fast processing and my product shows up fast. I had to replace the stairs on my 2003 Forest River Wildcat trailer and etrailer had the perfect replacement. And happily it was easy to replace, all the bolt holes are still the same after 18 years.

We use our trailer frequently and it doubles as a guest room at our home. Stairs are great. Prefer this type of stairs over the newer kind that stores inside the door. Just old fashion that way.

by:

I will call tomorrow. Two braces are bent, one side is scratched up and no hardware to attach the steps

Oh my goodness, what a disaster! I will have our customer service team reach out you about this. I am so sorry to hear it arrived in such condition.

by:

THe package arrived sooner than expected and in good shape.

by:

The product what exactly what it was advertised as. The dimensions were spot on and were a help in making sure that I was getting an exact replacement. The new steps were also a lot easier to open and close than the original equipment on the trailer. I still have another set of the OEM steps on the trailer and will probably be replacing them with this product in the future.

The product what exactly what it was advertised as. The dimensions again were spot on. As with the first set, the new steps are a lot easier to open and close.

by:

Steps are easy to install and is a great replica of the old steps on the rv
I am very pleased with the product and installation of the steps and o do recommend them

by:

I really like this step. Just the other day, I said what a joy it was to use compared to my old set. It glides open. One of the rubber strips fell off and I plan to glue it back in place.

by:

Replaced solid steps with fold down steps. I had to cut opening in my lower skirt as mine was a new installation. The fold down steps are great as was my experience with etrailer

by:

Much better than the metal loud stairs that were on my trailer.

by:

The rear upper and lower support bars were slightly bent, probably in shipment, I used a sledge to correct that. the box was clear taped closed on one end instead of stapled as the other end was. After cutting the box for recycle and then installing I noticed that the center and lower step sat at a slight angle. Does not make them unusable just a little awkward feeling walking up them. I'll just have to right that off to water runoff in a rainstorm. The opening and closing is far better than the originals.

by:

Received next day great service. Took about an hour and half to install. Seem to be sturdy well made and price was good. Would purchase from etrailer again.

by:

Great product, great price exact match of my damaged steps. Thank you??

Used the the steps now for a year and it still works great, the new steps are made better and stronger then the original

by:

This product arrived and had all the necessary parts to complete the install. The box is heavy and I had to load it into a wheelbarrow to move the box. The instruction did explain the installation procedure. A side not although we my wife and I were able to complete the procedure it would be better with two strong men. She is very happy with this third step and will make climbing into the trailer easier on our next trip.

by:

I ordered these steps on Dec. 20 to replace the originals that I managed to mangle up. Was informed later that day by email and voice mail message that it was backordered until after Christmas and they would try to expedite. I received a shipment notice on Dec. 27, and the steps arrived yesterday (Dec. 29). So the customer service was great, they kept me informed throughout the process and delivery was free and fast. Very satisfied.

As for the steps themselves, they are exact replacements for the original, so installation was a breeze with four heavy duty bolts.

by:

This was a replacement for Lippert steps that were original on my 2017 Grand Design.
it fit perfect. The difference is the original one was made out of cast iron and there's no way to repair them. The new one has a steel frame and if it breaks it can be welded. The handles or not on the original ones either. The new one is a much better product. Thanks!

Need a welder to install, once I have that done I’ll submit pictures & a better review.
My package arrived a day late, no fault of ETrailer, due to the 4th July holiday.
Package arrived in good shape as well as the 2 taillights was also ordered. Everything was packed very good. Stairs are exactly as pictured, very rugged & good looking.

by:

First of all, We Love this step! I had considered one of the steps that tip up inside of the door. Am I glad I did't go that route! After a summer of camping and talking with people , I realized the tip in step needs to be cleaned off before flipping into the camper door. That style also needs to have the legs adjusted every time you set up a new campsite. With the LC432696 it flips down with a lite pull and the third step flips over with the smoothest motion. Its easy to keep clean and when wet it doesn't get slippery like other steps. The step is very sturdy and very well made. I would give it 5 move stars if I could! Thanks for a great step! Wayne

In order to determine if the Alumi-Tread Manual Pull-Out Step for RVs # LC432696 will fit your 2019 Grand Design 2600 RB you will need to measure the width and depth of the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the door frame. If that measurement is at least 27-1/2" wide and 12-3/16" deep, then these steps will work great for you.
