RV Sealant - Non-Sag vs Self-Leveling

The kind of sealant you apply to your RV is important. To determine the type of sealant you need for your application, you will want to consider what it is you are sealing and where it is on your RV.

Self-leveling sealant is designed to level out as you apply it. The thick liquid slowly flows into a level position as gravity takes effect. This is particularly useful when sealing flat surfaces, like around a roof vent, AC, or skylight. As you apply the sealant, gravity will cause it to settle into an even line, giving you a clean, low-profile look.

Non-sag sealant is designed to retain its shape as you apply it. The consistency of the liquid is thick but malleable enough to be easily applied without causing sagging or slumping. This is useful when sealing vertical surfaces, such as the edges of a wall, window, or vent. As you apply the sealant, it will harden just enough to keep the liquid from drooping, giving you a clean, even look.

Used this to finish sealing the brackets on my solar panel installation... I used Butyl tape also. Works great. Highly recommend.

by:

Used less than half a tube to cover some drying checks in the original caulk. Applied easily, seems to have adhered well to the old caulk. I'm not sure about the self-leveling but I'm told it takes time.

@RobertS We're happy to hear that, thank you!

More importantly, etrailer knows how to ship their products. Ordered the same item on Amazon (3rd party reseller) and it arrived with the spout broken due to poor packaging. etrailer carefully packaged the tube to prevent damage.

by:

That’s 5 stars for excellent and easy installation took all of 15 min. Used old screws from my old vent. Now my R.V. Looks new again. The sealant was fast and dried in about 4min. Work fast.

by:

Had an RV Tech come out to do annual inspection of the roof on our 5th wheel. He found a couple areas of concern. Thank goodness I had a tube of this on hand so he was able to fix it right up and we are good to travel now. Highly recommend this product.

by:

Worked perfect on my 2013 Open Range bunk house

by:

I know you won’t post this but you should.

by:

this is an awesome product and the self-leveling works superwell

by:

Easy to use and worked well for my proj ect.

by:

Worked as listed…. Shipping quick… doesn’t go as far as you might think

by:

Will be applying the self-leveling sealant in the not too distant future. I have complete confidence it will work as advertised.

by:

Worked as is said

by:

Easy to work with, and everything in a timely manner.

by:

Best for TPO roofing.

by:

Easy to install with etrailer's instructional video. Still love it a year later.

by:

We haven't used it yet, but delivery time was great.

by:

Arrived on time, was as expected.

by: 09/03/2022

We used it to seal over brackets used in installing a solar panel on the roof of our trailer. Works as it is supposed to. The self-leveling forms a kind of pool of sealant around the site. We also used butyl tape under the brackets first to seal the screw holes, then this sealant over the whole bracket.

by:

Good stuff. Hoping it lasts a long time.

by:

Parts were very good, you do need to update your website on expected delivery, parts came a week later that estimated when ordered and I paid for extra for 2 day shipping, just made another order and now not expecting until 4-25 when estimated arrival on website when ordered said 19th, products are very good just need to fix expected date when ordering.

by:

The material was only partially Self-leveling I was somewhat disappointed with the product.

by:

Great customer service, easy ordering, fast shipping.

by:

Snapped on tight and look great!!!

by:

I give it 5 stars only because I never had the chance to use them I bought a Lemon of a trailer. Finally was able to sell it. Not fair of me to review any lower due to someone else ripping me off.

by:

Had a small leak at the skylight in the bathroom in our 5th wheel. This was just what I needed to fix the problem.

  • Can An Acopower Solar Panel Be Connected To A Go Power Solar System
Go Power uses MC4 connectors like part # 34279532 for their solar panel connections. You would not be able to mix your two panels together and run them through the Go Power Solar Controller. You would need to use additional Go Power branded panels like the # 34282181 to add on to your solar power system. The Acopower panel can still be ran to your battery separately though if that's what you're wanting to do. You would just need to drill a new hole in the run and run the wire from the...

Both the Alpha Systems 1021 Self-Leveling Sealant for RVs - White - 10.3oz - Qty 1 # AL98KV and the Alpha Systems AlphaThane 5121 Self-Leveling Sealant for RVs - Gray - 9.8oz - Qty 1 # AL45KV are good for use on TPO roofing and will allow you to re-caulk your roof accessories for a water tight seal. The only difference between these two sealants is that the 5121 has a longer drying time which will allow you more time to get it exactly how you want. Also, the # AL45KV is gray while the AL98KV...

Technically you could use the Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan # V2094SP-30 or the # V2094SP-28 but the garnish wouldn't be long enough to accommodate the depth of your ceiling. The largest garnish we carry for Ventline fans is # VA0445-37 at 5-5/16" so you'd have a gap between the vent and the garnish. • Can You Apply New Sealant to a Roof Directly Over Old Sealant & Removal of Old Sealant
If the old sealant only has minor cracks you can use a sealant like the LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Self-Leveling Sealant # 34427034145-1 which is a little easier to work with than the Alpha Systems 1021 Self-Leveling Sealant for RVs # AL98KV. You need to keep in mind that adding sealant over sealant is just a quick fix and most likely temporary. You are better off getting the old sealant off and then applying the new sealant. You could install the Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent - Manual - 14-1/4" x 14-1/4" - White - Birch Trim # V2092SP-25 you referenced but will most likely need to trim the opening a bit to get it to fit, or any other vent for that matter.
