Butyl tape is an essential tool for weatherproofing marine and RV components. This sturdy material creates a long-lasting, weatherproof gasket to fill gaps between your RV's outer hull and the mounting points for vents, windows, and doors.

Features:

  • Butyl tape functions as a gasket for a weatherproof seal when mounting RV or marine components
    • Sticks to the underside of mounting brackets and installation points before pressing into place on your RV or boat
    • Provides for greater protection from the elements than using sealant alone
    • Prevents the intrusion of moisture into nail or screw holes
  • Adhesive works on most nonporous materials including roofing membranes and metal
    • Won't crack, harden, or shrink
    • Can be applied in temperatures from -5 degrees F to 120 degrees F
  • Easy to use - press tape firmly to first surface, remove backing, and then press onto second surface for an even seal
    • Applies best to clean and dry surfaces
  • Gray color
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Quantity: 1 roll
  • Dimensions: 30' long x 3/4" wide x 1/8" thick
  • Application temperature range: -5 F - 120 F
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Butyl tape is used primarily as a gasket for preventing moisture from leaking into your RV around cutouts in the hull for vents, doors, windows, and wiring outlets. Butyl tape is widely used by RV manufacturers because of its high performance and durability. It does not dry out and crack over time, and its strong adhesive quality means it sticks and stays in place on smooth surfaces.

Butyl tape is most often used in conjunction with sealants to create the highest level of weatherproofing to prevent leaks and ongoing damage. It's ideal for use in areas where fixtures need to be drilled, nailed or bolted into place. The rubbery material keeps those openings sealed and free from water damage. While this is great for those who do their own repairs and upgrades, butyl tape is also good to have on hand to make temporary repairs. The tacky material can plug up any problem areas and hold strong, so you don't have to cut your trip short.

I have never used butyl tape before but am hoping it can solve some minor issues such as weatherproofing around storage doors, skylights, and the marker lights along the front of the motorhome. I haven't used it just yet, but plan to before winter.

  • What Should I Use To Seal My Replacement Window And Trim On My RV
Love the question, lets see what I found out: **TremPro 644 Silicone Sealant - 10.1-Fl-Oz Cartridge - Black # 0160299. **Alpha Systems Butyl Tape for RV Weatherproofing - 30' x 3/4" x 1/8" - White # AL64UV. If the frame you are going to use mounts with screws I recommend using the Butyl tape linked above. Just place it along the path where the mounting hardware will be making contact. This will create a watertight seal. If your replacement doesn't use mounting hardware I suggest going...

  • Do You Carry The Siding and Components For a Vintage Camper?
While we do not carry the actual siding for campers we do have Trims # 36277-955, # 362530-955 # 36289-955 as well as Butyl Tape # AL64UV and Sealant # 344270341437-1. These components will be needed to seal your camper and help prevent water from getting behind the siding.

  • Can Butyl Caulk be Used in Place of Butyl Tape
Butyl tape like # AL64UV will work a lot better than butyl caulk in your application. Butyl caulk is kind of a nightmare to deal with and is sold as a shingle/roof sealant. It's essentially liquified butyl tape and would be pretty messy. It would still technically work for you though if you wanted to go that route.

  • Do You Need To Reseal the Light When Installing VueSMART Backup Camera?
The VueSMART RV and Trailer Backup Camera - Wireless - Universal Mount - 152-Degree View # HM34FR fits behind the clearance light mounting base. I recommend using the Loctite RTV 598 High-Performance Silicone Gasket Maker - Black - 2.7-Fl Oz Tube # LT37467 or basic silicone sealant # 0160297. The sealant is for the trailer siding to keep moisture out. You can see in our installation video I've attached our installer used butyl tape like # AL64UV.

  • Parts Needed To Seal Aluminum Roof Panels On Top of Race Trailer
For your race trailer with aluminum roof panels it will seal on the edges with a Butyl Tape # AL64UV. Then you will use either a Non-Sag # AL33KV or Self-Leveling # AL68KV sealant to seal the mounting screws and edges of the aluminum roof panels to prevent water from getting inside your trailer.

  • What Size Butyl Tape Is Needed to Seal J-Rail
That sounds fine to me, Christine. Butyl tape is just used to water proof areas, so the main thing you'd want to make sure you're doing is sealing any places that could take in water - i.e., gaps in trim, screw holes, etc, so whatever that size that shakes out to be is the size you'd need.
