AJ: What's up everybody, it's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to check out this replacement Thumb Latch from Global Link.You can see here, I removed one from the door. These are an excellent way to keep your door closed and you don't have to keep unlocking and locking, because that can be a pain when you're at a campsite, maybe you don't have your keys in your pocket all the time. It might be inside, so when you go to get to the propane, or something like that, you'd have to unlock it and it'd be a big pain in the butt. These make it way easier just to open it and get right to what you need.Before we start to install our thumb latch, you want to make sure you get the right one. So, I'm going to show you the measurements here and how to figure that out.
Most people are going to want to just measure the door here, which is about 5/8, but if you get a 5/8 one, there's not going to be enough that sticks back here for this latch to lock on the backside of this lip. So, the better measurement actually, is to measure from the lip, out. Looks like that measurement's about 7/8, so that's the one we're going to go with. These thumb latches come in four different sizes. That's why it's so important to get the measurements, to make sure you get the right one.
And how they measure those sizes, is from the thread, out. So, you can see there, that's a 7/8 one, because it's measured from here to the end where the threads stop.Now, that we got our measurements and we know exactly what thumb latch we're going to use, let's jump right in to getting it installed. And that starts with removing the old one. You're only going to need two tools. I got a 7/8 ratchet and a screwdriver.
We're just going to take the screw out first. Just back it out. Then you just have to pop the latch out and make sure you save this, because this isn't included in the Global Link Thumb Latches. Using my ratchet, I'm going to go ahead and loosen the nut here. Fully remove it.
Then we can pop the core out. Now, this one seemed to come out pretty easily. If you're having trouble and it doesn't want to go, you just push with your thumb and then it should pop right out.Now, it's time to add our new one in. I went ahead and put the weather seal here on there. We're going to want to put it back in with a flat side on the top. Goes right in. Go ahead and test turn. We're still good. You come to the inside, we'll add a star washer that it comes with and then the nut. Get that hand tightened. And I'll tighten it a little bit more with my ratchet. Not going to go too tight, but just enough for it to be snug. Using the latch we saved from earlier. I'll reinstall that onto this new core, getting it snug, just like the nut, but don't over-tighten it, or anything.And pay attention to the latch. You can see it can be put in two different positions. It can be in a position where it drops down, or if you flipped it around, it would come up a little bit more. That all depends on where it's going to hit on the lip of your door. Well, let's give it a test. Goes into place, no problem. It goes into place, no problem. The door is not going to come open on its own and you can easily get to it, when you're just hanging out in the campsite.We've installed. I'm pretty happy with it. I mean, it was an easy install. It only took two tools. So, that shows you, pretty simple. It looks like it's going to hold up over time. I like the stainless steel, because if he looked down right here, this is chrome plated steel and it didn't just quite hold up, right. You can see it's worn down a little bit. It's got some scratches in it. The stainless steel, is going to hold up to the elements way better and last longer. So, I would go ahead and replace all the thumb latches on the camper with it, that way it all matches. I also like the weather strip here. It's just that added protection to keep anything, any water from getting into the door and ruin it from the inside.With that, I think that's about it for our look at the Global Link Thumb Latches. Reached the one year date since installation. Lock still works well--better than OEM versions. Glad I bought extras as I need to replace more of the originals.
Exactly what I was expecting. Well constructed and great finish. They fit the opening and tightened down securely.
Great part sent fast
I replaced the original locks (3 years old) on the rv because of the corrosion on the handles. The new locks function ok. However, these locks after 1 year also now have corrosion on the handles. I believe they were advertised as stainless steel. The handles are surely not stainless steel.
Your packaging has always been average, but this Item arrived completely out of its plastic shell inside the shipping carton. All small parts strewn inside the carton. Poor effort on the part of your shipping department.

Thank you again for the awesome service the were delivered quickly everything was right. easy to install anybody with a camper or motorhome with the small locks trowel them away and all the small keys away this is so easy you put a number in if you like all doors the same so you don’t have to carry all the keys That don’t work when it’s cold or anything like that so thanks again and I also ordered lots of other products from etrailer everything is great I had about three different kits for hook up on cars I had break body towbars everything is absolutely awesome thanks again.

I just installed these latches on the exterior storage compartment doors on our Passport trailer. They are a perfect fit for the existing holes.
I discovered that our doors are foam filled so I chose to add a conduit reducing washer on the inside before tightening the locknut. This allowed me to get a good snug fit and no spinning of the latch when operating from the outside.
If you need a 11/8” thumb turn cylinder for your 5th wheel then this one works great. But, it does not come with the latch arm so you will need to reuse your old latch arm.
The lock washers are NOT 'race track' shaped to match the barrel and allow the latch to rotate. I used my old lock washers.
NEEDED ABOUT 1/4" SHORTER TO FIT STORAGE DOOR AND I USED MACHINE WASHERS TO SHIM OUT. BEWARE - THIS ITEM DOES NOT COME WITH REAR "KEEPER / LATCH" ONLY NUT & RETAINER SCREW. LUCKILY HAD IN MY STOCK.
Delivery was super quick. Installation was easy. Everything was as expected. Time will tell about how they hold up. The original latches that I replaced were coroded and in bad shape after a few years of service. I will probably add a rubber o-ring to the inside for better weatherproofing. May be overkill, but not that difficult to do.
Always great service from etrailer, the cam lock I got is stainless and I will not have the corrosion issues as with the factory ones
Seems well made and fit well as a replacement. While the outside ring of the lock is stainless steel, the interior cylinder and other parts appear not to be. Not pleased to see this.
Used it to replace a keyed lock on my 5th wheel. It worked perfectly.

It was an exact size for replacement. I have used it multiple times since installing a year ago and works great,thank you.
It was the right size and fit my camper but I was surprised the latch arm was not part of the hardware. Finish on the chrome was not as nice as the original. Thankfully I had a spare latch arm to use.
Worked well. Easy installation.
The product itself appears to be good quality but because it doesn’t come with the little lock bar I will need to find one somewhere.
