When replacing gas shock on your vehicle or RV, you will want to make sure you are buying a replacement with the exact same extended length, compressed length, and pounds of force. This information is usually printed on the shock. Lengths are measured from the center of the ball joint used for mounting. If you are planning on installing gas shocks on something for the first time, identifying the shock you need requires fairly complex initial calculations, so be sure to do your research to avoid purchasing a shock that will not fit your application.

Video Transcript for Review of JR Products RV Door Parts - 7.5 Inch 40 Pound Force Gas Shock - 372-4900-40

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com, today we're gonna take a quick look at this gas shock. This is going to replace a worn out or damaged shock on your RV's entry door or storage door. This will help prevent your door from slamming shut potentially causing injury or damage. And it will also give you a little extra help as you're opening up that storage door or entry door. This does have a 40 pound force, so it's gonna give you quite a bit of help there. Not necessarily the strongest out there but it should be enough to kind of definitely prevent it from slamming shut but also give you a little bit of help as you're opening it up.

This is going to have a 10 millimeter ball sockets on both ends, so it's gonna fit right on top of your 10 millimeter ball studs where you're installing this. From the one ball socket to the other center to center, it's just over an seven and a half inches. When I measure it measure about seven and five eighths of an inch center to center, so right about seven and a half inches. When you compress this, it's gonna go down to be about right around seven and a quarter. I measured it closer to about seven or sorry, five and a quarter I measured it closer to about five and a half.

So it should do a really good job of just giving you that extra little protection from slamming that storage door shut, little bit of help as you're opening it back up. You can see this is black nitride color so it's gonna do a good job of kind of blending in. It's not gonna stand out too much for you so it won't be an eyesore or anything like that. It's just gonna do the job that you need it do. So that's going to complete our look for today.

Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com, thanks for watching.

Hi, I am wanting to see if everything is ok with the replacement strut. The review came though as blank. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

by:

The selection process was easy to follow. I needed gas struts with a greater lift capacity for our under bed storage due to the addition of a memory foam mattress. I was able to select a strut pair with the proper length and extension from the website. The struts were received quickly and were exactly what I needed. The bed now raises gently and remains elevated.

by:

When my package arrived it was beat up and one of the clips on the end of the shock was missing, not what I would give a good report !!

by:

Item was exactly as advertised, easy installation, fits perfectly on our RV door. Our previous gas shock was worn out & would not hold the door open. This product is sturdy & stable. It fixed the issue.

by:

This strut did not fit precisely due to the thickness of the end connectors. They are thicker than the original strut and since the strut has to fit between the bottom of the door and the threshold in the closed position it would not allow the door to close. I found that by exchanging the end connectors with the original strut I was able to install the strut and close the door. The only problem with this solution is that the new strut with the old connectors is slightly longer than the old strut/connector assembly and now allows the door to open slightly farther than before. Our awning arm just barely clears the door when opening and closing so will have to be very careful from now on when extending and retracting the awning. Our motorhome is a Sunseeker 3010ds model in case this is helpful to others ordering this product.

by:

Product is installed but instructions were a bit vague and difficult to implement(related to the removal of previous gas shock bar).

by:

Exactly what I needed for my Kwik Kamp motorcycle trailer! It's nice to share information in our group when we find parts to use for our discontinued campers.

by:

Thanks, now my tool box won't cut my arm off.

by:

product works well, shipping took a little longer than I expected

by:

Very fast delivery! I've ordered from e-trailer several times and service has always been great!

by:

These work great for toolbox lid

by:

The head that attached to the bottom door jamb was way to huge couldn't close the door I was able to switch the one from the old strut the thread size not the same I had to force it on most likely will pull off I ordered the 30 pound for my fifth wheel door if people ask the 20 pound model is the correct size but I chose the 30 pound my mistake

by:

Price is right and product fit and functioned well for my application on a Leer truck topper rear glass door

by:

Works great haven't had any problems with it, would buy again if I ever needed it

by:

This fit my 05 Bigfoot 9.6 camper door with about 3/8 compression left. This is the shock you want. It has a slow open feature and does not slam the door open possibly risking tearing the mounts off. So no worries about people who just open the door and head out. We used to have to coax the door open. Not you can let go of it. Love this shock!!

by:

Exactly what I needed delivered in a timely manner

by:

The Stabilus shock holding the 22" door of our bumper pull trailer open was weak. Mild wind would push it shut. This shock fit right onto the existing ball joints. A small blade screwdriver pried the "c" clip back, allowing me to slip the socket over the ball, and the clip snapped into place. Maybe 30 seconds and the shock was installed.

The biggest challenge was determining what force I needed in the replacement. The existing shock had the model information scraped away where it rubbed on the door threshold. No where could I find on the etrailer site what force a small door shock should be. I ended up chatting with an RV service tech I know, who looked it up in his parts catalog. Turns out 10 lb force is standard except for large RV doors. I would suggest etrailer.com add this information on their online catalog. Maybe it's there and I couldn’t' find it? "Gas shock force needed for RV doors."

by:

Defective Will not allow door to close. Stops about 4 inches before door closes. Took one of the end fittings off and repaired my old one. Length and pressure matched.

by:

Product was damaged and not received, but etrailer stepped up and sent another gas prop. More companies should have these work ethic’s. Good job

by:

fit and worked great

by:

This item was not an exact fit but it was very close and it worked. My thanks to Josh for his help and time he spent with me to figure it out. The difficulty was there was no part number or part to use or measure. Josh was working in the blind and lucky for me it worked.

by:

Great customer service and prompt delivery.
I haven't installed them yet but look to be the exact replacement part for the current ones in my camper.

by:

Overall, I was satisfied with the process as well as as quality and condition of the door opener. I was fortunate that the opener fit correctly. There was some dissatisfaction that your web site offered little in the way of cross-reference data for a direct replacement with the existing opener on my trailer. Also, considering that the item was in stock, delivery took longer than I had anticipated.

by:

Fast shipping Good price

by:

Excellent service. Definitely going to order from them again.
