Recommended Hanging Bike Rack For Carrying 3 Bikes Behind a 2010 Toyota RAV4
Question:
Hi … I am interested in purchasing the Malone Runway Bike Rack for 3 bikes.. 1 1/4 “- 2 “ hitch…tilting. I have a 2010 Toyota Rav 4. The door in back opens left to right…because of the door will I have to remove the entire rack to open the back door? It wouldn’t be a problem because I can still use the side doors to access the trunk area. Just wondering. I also have a hard cover on the spare tire….would that interfere with the bike rack? Thanks so much for any info you can provide me with! I also will have to purchase 3 adapters!

With the swinging rear door on your 2010 Toyota RAV4 I recommend using the Yakima FullSwing Bike Rack # Y02465. This bike rack swings 90 degrees to the side opening similarly to how your rear door opens. Because of this it gives you the ability to open your rear door since the Malone Runway Bike Rack # MPG2130 does not fully tilt down allowing full access to a swinging door like yours. This style is best used with a rear hatch which hinges at the roof line. The Yakima also sits further back ensuring you have plenty of clearance for your spare tire.
The Adapter # Y02531 will allow you to carry bikes with women's or alternative style frames.
If you do not yet have a receiver I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98864. This 2" receiver has a matte black finish which I find is more durable than gloss black finishes other manufacturers use. The 4-Way Harness # 118412 will allow you to add Auxiliary Lights # C53201 if your bikes impair the view of your tail lights to other drivers.
