Unfortunately the item I wanted wasn't in stock at etrailer, but I had time before I wanted to install the item, a front mount hitch. The vendor was on time with supplying the hitch and etrailer shipped the hitch in a timely manner. It arrived yesterday evening and I installed it today. I've installed three front hitches, all from etrailer Curt and Draw-Tite I believe over the past few years. Two this year. The first picture is the front hitch on a 1998 E-450 class C motor home, the second picture is on a 2002 Ford F-350 pickup truck.

The video explaining the install was very helpful, thank you! One additional step, which I had to do, REMOVE the front bumper. Four bolts, and it is off. This makes the removal of the front leaf spring nut MUCH easier, esp. if working alone. Now the disappointing part. My winch, which is a Re-Con, Brute force (17,500 lb rating) was half a hole short from being able to pin. I removed the winch carrying handles and the front licence plate. This allowed the stinger to slide forward in the receiver the extra little bit. It now fits fine. I have other vehicles the winch mounts on, so I elected to go this route and it will be fine. It is a bit of a pain, but only will have to deal with it once or twice per year. I just threw the plate in the front window in case I get pulled over. My truck has towing loops which extend through the bumper, so I can not slide the plate to the side of the winch.

Fit my 2001 f250 perfectly. Easy install with 2 people. Removing the 2 frame nuts was toughest part of the job. You will need 24mm and 21mm deep sockets and a 24 mm wrench. Excellent packaging. This is 4th hitch from etrailer and best packaging ever. Instructions should provide torque specs.

Front hitch is amazing! I have a long, narrow, winding driveway. It was very difficult to back my 24 boat down it. Pushing with the front hitch is so easy it is unbelieable. If you have a tough situation to back down a front hitch is the answer.

by:
2001 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty

The video was a great help! I would add one more step to make this job a total breeze. Those front bolts on the springs are EXTREMELY tight. I was doing this job alone, so I had to figure out how to hold the back side of the bolt while loosening the nut. REMOVE the front bumper! There are only 4 bolts which hold the bumper on. Once the bumper is off, there is plenty of room to deal with the tight bolts and hold them from turning. It may add a few minutes of time, but I believe removal of the bumper will save time for the completion of this project, especially if flying solo.

Product is terrific ansd very easy to install following your instructions. Only 'shocker' was trying to take off the nut on the bolt holding the front leaf springs. That took an 'Act of Congress' to remove. Well not totally correct, Congress doesn't do anything and I had to work my tail off with help to break those nuts loose. It is extremely hard to get those loose. If I subtract the time I used to get those two nuts off, it would take less than 20 minutes. Otherwise very simple. I have two pics attached.

I used a three foot cheater bar...broke standard 3/4 flex joint. I purchased the professional impact flex joint then it came loose.

etrailer has been great as always! Problem was with the installation on my 2001 f-350 4x4 w/blocker beam that the stiffener plates hole locations were about a 1/2" off side to side and about 1/8" off front to back. Worked with them and they positively claimed their product was a correct fit for my truck. Provided them with pictures/measurements as requested. They had no fix for this problem and left me to correct the issue on my end. Interesting part of this problem is that the front hitch receiver part Curt c31014 fit perfectly with my factory plate and blocker beam assembly? As soon as the stiffener plate was added the install failed. Remedy was to custom machine modify their plates to complete the install at my cost of $xx. Again, etrailer would receive a 5-star rating on their end!

2001 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty

I put the front receiver on my Ford truck which was relatively easy but I had a friend help as the lifting is a two man job. As others have mentioned, the one bolt on each side is a bugger to get out. I followed a youtuber's advice and took off the front bumper first so I could access the spring bolt. The video put out by e-trailer was helpful. Even with spraying the spring bolt with penetrating oil for several days it took a long breaker bar and a friend holding the nut on the other side with a wrench to break it loose. The two bolts needed to complete the assembly were missing but quickly mailed out once I notified etrailer. These were the self tapping screws that go in on either side of the receiver end. I previously put on a front receiver from etrailer on my Chev pickup which was easier and have a winch mounted in a cradle mount. I can now switch the winch between trucks as needed. I used the anti rattle lock sold by etrailer but haven't used it long enough for a review. I assume this lock will lessen movement on the winch in the mount.

2002 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty

I have purchased a hitch before with e-trailer and was just as pleased with this one as the last one. I appreciated the website info & video with good tips, etc. Some of the other brands I checked out required eliminating the fog lights, but didn't have to do that with this one. The only trouble I had was with the loosening & removal of the 24MM nut on the spring (as warned would be the case). I had soaked it in penetrating oil 3 days to no avail. Had to have a garage raise the truck on a lift to have room for a long extension on my breaker bar. My advise to someone doing this on an old truck like mine that had lived most of it's life exposed to Nebraska winter roads, I would soak all the nuts in penetrating oil for a week or so. I am really liking the way the hitch turned out. I tried to take a picture of the front end, but the receiver is so well placed that it hardly showed up. Thanks for a great product and great service!

Ford F-250 Super Duty

Definitely heavy duty and well made with a nice powder coat finish. I installed a similar unit on a GMC 1/2 ton pickup last year. The GMC install was easy in comparison to this one.
On this F-250 Super Duty it's a two person job with some really heavy duty tools. The front spring bolt is very large and the retaining nuts were on with blue thread locker. It took one person holding the bolt head and another person on the nut with a 3 ft breaker bar to get it to move. There is not enough room to get a big impact on the nut. I had sprayed all the bolts with penetrating oil for a couple day soak. I ended up removing the bumper support brackets to get better angle on the spring bolt nuts. All the other bolts were easy to get to and came off just fine. The actual install is well engineered and not a problem.

2001 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Installed on 2001 Superduty F250. Needed to remove the bumper (4 nuts up front, 2 on the side) to get access for torque on key nuts with a breaker bar. Works well to hold a 12000# winch. I have not really tested it yet, but like the low profile.

2002 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Easy installation. Front bumper didn't need to be removed and replaced as etrailer website had stated. Good news. 2002 F250 Super Duty.

I bought this hitch to replace the truck's front cross-frame member, but with the advantage of having a hitch. I've used the hitch portion only a few times to hold four bikes and have had no problems. Seems like a very rugged unit.

Couldn’t be more pleased! Straight forward install instructions. Use it all the time! Have used it for my winch and for self built utility platform.

The 2002 F-250 has two different styles of front end configurations. I do have a solution for you to install a front hitch on your 2003 Ford F-350 that will lead the OEM fog lights in tact, but you will need to confirm that your truck has the blocker beam behind the bumper (only found on 4wd versions of this truck, so it's likely there). • Does Curt Front Hitch C31014 Fit 2001 Ford F-350
Since your 2001 Ford F-350 has the blocker beam (which is what I believe you were referencing when you mentioned extra cowl), you can definitely install the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # C31014. The 34 inch frame is actually a cab and chassis frame, so assuming your F-350 is a standard pick-up, then there is no need to measure, though just to be thorough, the measurement is taken from outside-to-outside of the frame.

I cannot recommend using a custom hitch such as # C31014 for fabrication but you could use fabrication parts to have a custom fabricator make a hitch that will fit. I have linked the hitch fabrication parts we carry. You would just need a crossmember. This is likely going to be less expensive then trying to adapt a hitch to fit.
