Roadmaster Flat Tow Brake System - RM-751471

  • Stop Light Switch
  • Roadmaster

Avoid damage to your towed car by ensuring that your supplemental braking system is properly positioned and working effectively. Kit activates your RV monitoring system to alert you when the brakes of your towed car are being applied.

Features:

  • Activates motorhome brake-monitoring system whenever brake pedal in towed car is applied
    • Ensures that the supplemental braking system is functioning properly
  • Works great for any application that does not have a tow position in the ignition
  • Wires directly into towed car's fuse box for constant current
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • 12 Volts
  • Application: custom-fit for your vehicle

This kit allows your RV's monitoring system to alert you whenever the brake pedal of your towed car is being applied. Other systems operate according to whether the air cylinder is extended and provide no indication of what is happening with the pedal itself. If your supplemental braking system is improperly installed, it may be continuously pressing on the pedal, impeding it from fully retracting and possibly causing damage to your vehicle's tires and braking system. With Roadmaster's Stop Light Switch Kit, you will always know when the brake is being depressed, and you will avoid costly damage.

Works just like it should on my 2022 Jeep Cherokee.

by:

Works great on my 2021 Jeep Cherokee. Makes the tail lights work as they should.

by:

Turned out I didn't need this kit for my application. Quinn F was very helpful when this was discovered and was able and was able to grant full refund for the returned kit.

by:

Worked great

Still working great, in fact added another unit to second vehicle

by:

This product worked exactly as described. Some things to be aware of.
1. It's a yellow dichromate plated solenoid. Not plastic grey. Nice
2. The video for the 2018 Cherokee shows a 4 bolt brake booster. 2019 Cherokee has a 5 bolt brake booster that has a black plastic frame. Use the same bolt location in the video and it works great. You'll need a deep socket and extension. 13mm.
3. PUT the solenoid on BEFORE attaching bracket. If for some reason you forget, Have someone depress brake pedal and then there's plenty of room to install.

by:

The product showed up at the time I was told it would. I installed it and it fit well and seems to be functioning as it should. I have a couple connections to finish and than OPS check. I used this switch instead of looking for a hot brake wire for my brake controller. No one wanted to touch my Jeep to wire the brake controller in as it did not come with a factory hitch and wiring, and that included the dealer! So I added this switch and now there is no need to do anything with the factory wiring! That eliminates the computer on the Jeep from thinking it has a problem from hooking up something extra it was not expecting.

The instruction video was the biggest help. Because I’m very visual without that I’m not sure I could’ve done this. It turned out great and I’ve not had any issues in the last year.

by:

I’m thankful etrailer has the parts I need along with easy to follow videos for installation. However, I was disappointed that although the parts were in stock it took a week before you shipped them out of your warehouse.

by:

Never seem to be disappointed - great service and written instructions with excellent photos. Videos are great also.

by:

Great instructions and videos.

  • What Do I Need To Flat Tow My 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Do I Need Something For My Power Steering
There is a trim level of your 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee that can be flat towed. You are able to flat tow a Grand Cherokee model with the Quadra-Trac II/Quadra-Drive II with 4-Lo Range. With regard to the special kit for the power steering, there was a Mopar tech bulletin (08-022-16) that states that if your vehicle was built after February 16, 2016, that kit is not necessary. I recommend that you contact your Jeep dealer for clarification. The necessary kit, if you need it, is available...

  • Will I Get The Death Wobble When Flat Towing My 2021 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk?
The part you are referring to (Mopar's 68321424AB) was indeed a fix for certain models and years of Jeep Cherokee that were experiencing the dreaded "death wobble", but your 2021 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk does not fall under these years. Those years were from 2014 to 2018 and the issue has since been resolved, so it will not be needed. This means that once the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate # RM-521451-5 is installed, along with the rest of a full set up I recommend listed below in...

  • Parts Needed to Transfer Roadmaster InvisiBrake to 2017 Jeep Cherokee
The Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System # RM-8700 is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Jeep Cherokee as long as it does NOT have a non-electric hydroboost braking system. You will need the Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751471 for the Cherokee as well as the new car kit # RM-98700 which is shown in the linked video. For Roadmaster base plates you can refer to the linked page that displays four kits for the various versions. Note that the Sterling tow bar's safety cable anchors do...

  • Is A Stop Light Switch Kit Needed For A 2022 Jeep Cherokee
The brake light switch wire for the 2022 Jeep Cherokee isn't useable so you would need to install the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751471 in order to get the braking signal. The Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751449 you referenced would only be compatible with select Jeep Grand Cherokee's so it wouldn't be a fit for your vehicle. I've attached a short video below where Ryan will walk you through the installation process.

  • Supplemental Braking System Alternative to Not Splice Air Lines on a Tiffin Breeze w/ Air Brakes
There is another option. You do not have to use the Demco Air Force One item # DM55MV if you are not comfortable splicing into the air brakes. Instead you will want the Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System item # RM-8700. This is also a permanently installed system that is compatible with air brakes. It relies on an electrical signal from your motorhome to apply the brakes. I have linked an installation video below. With the InvisiBrake system you will also need the Roadmaster...

  • How to Locate Cold Side of Stop Light Switch on 2019 Jeep Cherokee
Locating the cold side of the stop light switch on your 2019 Jeep Cherokee can definitely be difficult, assuming you can even access it. You can use a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 to find which wire only has power when the brake pedal is pressed and splice into it for installation. Alternatively, you can install the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751471. This is often the solution when the factory wire is difficult to find or inaccessible. For proper fit the vehicle must have factory tow hooks and must not have the Active Air Shutter feature. • Can A Brake Light Relay Kit And Stop Light Switch Kit Both Be Installed In A 2022 Jeep Cherokee
I get your line of thinking but there's a much simpler solution to your issue. The brake light relay # RM-88400 and stop light switch kit # RM-751471 can not be used together. Since you're having brake light indicator issues you will only want to install the stop light switch kit instead. The electrical systems of your Cherokee will turn off after running for 20 minutes so both Roadmaster and us here at etrailer do not recommend installing a brake light relay to fix the turn signal overriding...

  • Is the Mopar Recreational Flat Tow Wiring Kit Needed to Stop Wobble on a 2021 Cherokee?
From what I could find out, the Mopar Recreational Flat Tow Wiring Kit will not be needed for a 2020 or 2021 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. This was only a requirement on a 2014 to 2018 as the issue this was designed to combat has since been rectified. If you have not completed your flat tow set up as of yet, the following will be some recommendations to get you on the road. One of the huge pluses with having a Jeep is they are one of the most common vehicles to flat tow. With that being said,...

Yes, when flat towing your 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk you have to install the wiring kit 68321424AB which you can only get from a Jeep dealer. This harness is designed to address a "wobble" or steering issue that occurs sometimes when the vehicle is flat towing. The newer Cherokee 4x4's have electric power steering.
