Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness. The connection point for the 7-way harness is located behind the rear bumper. The converter plugs into the factory wiring harness in your rear cargo area, on the driver's side. You will have to remove the floor covers, cargo trays, and some interior paneling to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the connector, insert the included fuses into your fuse panel as indicated in the instructions.

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a 2-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on 1 wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's 3-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

The Tekonsha wiring harness I purchased didn't work. I purchased a second Tekonsha wiring harness from Amazon thinking I accidently fried the first one, but the second wiring harness did not work either. After examining both wire harnesses, I realized they both were fabricated wrong at the factory. After cutting and splicing the wires in the correct position, the lights finally came on appropriately. I called Tekonsha to let them know about the wiring issue, the technician said they would look into it and I never heard back. I would never purchase another wiring harness of any sort from Tekonsha.

by:

Works fine - no issues - just be careful with the panels.

by:

I have ordered from etrailer several times and have never been disappointed. Products are always top notch, prices are good and video instructions have been spot on. Communication is great. I would not hesitate to order from etrail again.

Easy installation. Products as advertised and well priced. Worked great on first test. Ready to start towing.

Ground (White) wire was too short to reach a screw in the metal plate in the rear compartment of our 2021 Pilot, had to remove the electrical tape and zip tie so I could push the rubber grommet further down the wire under the car that way there was more wire length available in the rear compartment. The 7 blade pin adapter was faulty, one of the wire connectors would not clip in, I had to use another adapter to finish the install.

For this harness, it is definitely a trickier install as there is not a lot of room to work in. I did find that others have had the same issue with the ground wire. I recommend taking a look at the video install that we have on a 2020 Honda Pilot starting at time stamp 11:10 to see how we handled it. As for the 7 way adapter I will have our Customer Service team reach out to see what we can do for you.

Worth every penny. So secure and easy to plug harness into factory socket at rear cargo access panel. I took the lower bumper panel off so that I could work on it on the bench. I think the 7 pin receiver could be installed with the bumper panel still on the car but placement is critical as to clear the hitch. Taking the panel off was difficult but doable even for this one armed old man. I drilled a rosette of holes in the bumper and finished the hole with a dremel sanding disc. This made a perfect fit. I used bolts and washer - lock washer on the back. This method created a very solid install. You could try a mounting bracket but I don't see and good clean attachment location.

by:
2017 HondaPilot

I must say I like having my etrailer equipment installation was easy. But I really wish I had installed the factory hitch. Only because the provisions for mounting the wire harness is much much better. etrailer IS GREAT WITH ALL THAT THEY DO

by:

I used this wiring kit with the Honda hitch. I would recommend installing the 7-way receptacle to the mounting bracket on the hitch prior to installing the hitch to the car. You will need to drill holes in the mounting bracket on the hitch since the ones on the receptacle don't line-up with the ones on the bracket. I used four stainless steel screws and nuts with nylon inserts to connect everything together. The rest of the installation went just like the video, easy.

by:
2016HondaPilot

Very easy to install. Everything I needed was right in the plastic bag of hardware. The head of the self-tapping screw was smaller than the hole in the lug on the ground wire so I had to use a washer between the two. Also, I didn't get a nice clicking sound when I put the white wire into the connector, but all the rest were good. I hope the white wire stays put, but I think it will because of the little plastic piece used to secure all of the wires.

I probably didn't need this fancy of a harness for my infrequent, light-towing needs, but it really was a dream to install. Would highly recommend.

by:
2016HondaPilot

Install was easy however the electrical connections were not clear in the black and white instructions included, had to use the color picture on the website to properly wire the 7 pin connection. Any questions were answered by their video. Only wished that I had gotten a model with both the 4 pin and 7 pin connectors.

by:

The price I got was excellent compared to what the dealer would charge. Thanks to the etrailer installation videos, i was able to do it without difficulty and this is the first time i installed an item like this.

etrailer 7 pin trailer harness and Draw-title trailer hitch for under $200. Install made so much easier with YouTube self help videos. Great deal and the communication was excellent. Would recommend to anyone, thanks again.

by:
2010 Honda Element

The wiring harness was complete and easy to install. The best part was that the instructions were easy to follow and accurate. The only thing I would add to the kit is the bracket for the 7-way connector, that way you would have the option to use the bracket or cut a hole in the plastic below the bumper. I chose to cut the hole in the plastic below the bumper.

by:

Classic under promise and over deliver. The videos were extremely helpful and everything went together just as described on my 2020 Honda Pilot. I ordered the Drawtite receiver and the T-One 7 pin harness. Only thing that was a bit frustrating was the location of the onboard pre wired connector on the Pilot. It would have been helpful for a caution about needing to fish up into the body to find that connector, it isn’t readily available to find.

by:

I wasn’t sure how the wiring harness would work. I had never done anything like that before. I followed the instructions, and everything worked perfectly.

by:

I am very happy with the results from the trailer hitch and wiring harness I purchased from etrailer.com. Installation was very easy and I saved $800.00 from a dealer install. Thanks.

Excellent plug and play harness. The instructions video was extremely helpful too. I used this harness with the Honda hitch for an integrated install.

If your Pilot came from the factory with backup sensors like the touring and elite models come standard with, you will be searching for a plug to hook the blue wire up to that is in this kit...well there isn’t a place to hook it up. The blue wire will only hook up, if for instance your backup sensors were installed aftermarket possibly at the dealership, not the factory. Basically if you find the tow wiring hidden behind the drivers rear interior trim, and you only find one plug, not two, don’t worry about hooking up the blue wire. My car is a 2019 Elite, with factory reverse sensors. I did not hook up my blue wire, and it Works perfect. Install was simple once I learned this.

Thank you Chad, to bad E-trailer did not know this, and it works. There FAQ and tech support sent me on a wild goose chase, even say its on the passenger side of the car. I could find nothing either side. Etrailer please correct your miss-information, cost me hours in the hot sun!

we have a few cases where the customer says that the car has a backup sensor but the manufacturer did not include the connecter. In these cases the blue wire was not used and did not affect the function.

Instructions were easy to understand and the video online helped as well. Would highly recommend this wiring kit over others. Top notch.

2016HondaPilot

It took longer to gather my tools than to install this unit. The hardest part was getting the factory connection loose from all the tape Honda likes to put on. My only suggestion for install is to skip drilling the 3/32" hole for a ground like the instructions say to do as on the 2016 Pilot there is a 6mm tapped hole already in the compartment that makes a great ground connection. Total time for install was about 20 minutes. I mounted my connector to the hitch cover on the drivers side of the car so the wiring harness was a little long. I just looped it and zip tied it to the car frame. All in all worth the money so I didn't have to find and splice wires.

The hitch and harness work flawlessly. Great products and easy to install.

2011 Toyota Venza

Great customer service. Fast shipping. Video by etrailer makes installation less intimating. I connected the wiring harness without opening the panel in 5 mins. I used the index and middle finger to hold the vehicle harness; with T-one hardness in my palm, I squeezed my hand to latch; heard a click/locked sound. At least give it a try first before you open the panel.

Still working great, likely to last a long time.

by:

This wiring harness was awesome! I took my laptop out to the used Honda Pilot we had just purchased for out tow vehicle and played your installation video right in the back of the pilot. Everything was just as described in the video: each part to be removed, how to do it and especially finding the wiring plug from the factory right where the video said it would be. It was easy. I was so happy.

  • Recommended 7-Way and 4-Pole Trailer Wiring Harness for 2018 Honda Pilot
The easiest way to have both a 4-pole and a 7-way trailer connector for your 2018 Honda Pilot would be to begin by installing a 7-way trailer connector, part # 118286 and then use an adapter like # PK12716 when you want to tow a trailer with a 4-pole connector. I've linked to videos for both these products. There's an alternative if you'd rather not mess with an adapter. You can use a T-harness like part # 118384 which would plug inline between the 7-way and the harness provided by the...

I looked up the towing capacity of your 2020 Honda Pilot and the AWD models are rated at towing a trailer up to 5,000 lbs so a 3,500 lb trailer like you mentioned wouldn't be a problem at all. For a hitch the etrailer part # e98840 is a confirmed fit and would work great. It has more than enough capacity and also is mostly hidden. For a 7-way trailer wiring harness the Tekonsha part # 118286 would be a great option that's easy to install and very reliable.
