Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2004 Ford F-150

All right. Today on this 2004 Ford F150 were going to install part number 118247. First thing we need to do is go ahead and unload our spare tire and get it out of our way. This way we have access to the wiring connection we need. Now, the wiring connection were looking for is going to be on the drivers side frame rail pointed out here, and well go ahead and disconnect it. Well push down on the tab and pull it apart.

Next, we need to remove the ground screw. Well go ahead and remove it. Now we can go ahead and start installing the new part. Now the wire harness is shaped like a T so well take both halves of the T and install them into the wire harness; one on each side. Well push them together until they click.

All right, now well take our white wire at the ring terminal and add that to the original wire with the ring terminal and bolt those two back together to the frame using the ground screw. Now we need to install a seven pole connector. Now, this kit does not come with any brackets to hold the seven pole in place. So, were going to add a couple of part numbers. Were going to use part number pk12711u to hold our seven pole bracket.

Were going to use part number 18136 to mount the whole assembly to the hitch. Well start off by putting the two brackets together. Now, were going to intentionally take one bracket and install it in reverse fashion that way we keep the seven pole connector as close to the hitch as possible. Well bolt these two together and then well take that assembly and well go ahead and clamp it to the hitch. Well take the band clamp, run it around the hitch and through the bracket and then tighten it down.

Well make sure its level first and then well tighten it down for good. Now well go ahead and take our wire harness and run it through the bracket. Well remove the little gray lock thats on top then install the seven pole connector. It also just snaps together. And, then well reinstall the lock. And, then our seven pole connector will get bolted to the seven pole bracket. All right. Were done with the back of the vehicle. Now we need to add a relay to the front. Well go to the passenger side front seat and there will be a kick panel down below that we have to remove to get access to the fuse panel. Well remove the door and then remove the lid to the panel. Then well go ahead and add our relay that comes with the kit. This will power our 12 volt power supply with our hot lead going out back at the seven pole connector. Now, you want to check your owners manual for proper location of this circuit, and then reinstall the covers. That will finish it for our install of part number 118247 on our 2004 Ford F150.

Tow Ready 7-Way Wiring Harness for 2004 Ford F-150 with OEM 4-Flat Trailer Connector.

by:
2004 Ford F-150

The harness assembly works well and meets the performance described on the website. Unfortunately, the plastic housing that mates with the factory wiring on the truck didn't withstand the initial installation. The small barb molded into the housing that locks into the vehicle wiring snapped off during the first install. I had to add tape & heat shrink to the assembly to ensure that it wouldn't vibrate out during travel. Also the 7-way plug-in assembly doesn't fully lock into the wiring harness and has come loose 2x during travel. I've had great success with other etrailer products and will use them again. Hopefully, these parts will be improved.

I recently purchased a pontoon boat that had hydraulic brakes. First time out had to back up the trailer uphill, not a good experience with the brakes locking up. My F150 has only factory 4 pin trailer connections so I looked for a 5 pin option with reverse brake override power. Etrailer is my first stop on trailer parts. The wiring harness and relay in the kit fit perfectly, but needed a large adjustable pliers to snap to the connectors together on one connector. Had to fabricate a bracket as the overall length of the 7 pin receptacle and connector means it had to be set 2” towards the bumper to clear the hitch assembly (also e-trailer). A few tie wraps later everything was done and tested. Instructions were good, but didn’t need to drop the spare to get at everything. Would recommend.

by:

I received the harness and was very happy with the ease of installing it. However, the Left turn signal and left brake lights would not work on my trailer. After several hours of trying to get it to work, I finally ran a wire from my left taillight to the wire on the plug and everything is working.
For the money the harness cost it was frustrating that it didn’t work 100%.

Just received my order. It arrived as advertised. I will follow up if necessary.

This package deal was just what I was looking for. The easy to install t connector was a quick plug in and I was on my way. With just a few self tapping screws I was able to mount the connector to my bumper and I was on my way. After installation I hooked up our new camper and every thing worked as it should first time. This is a great set up for someone looking to save time and have a professional looking install in minutes. Thanks Etrailer

I am very pleased with the wiring kit I had purchased from your company. The instruction were complete and the shipping couldn't have been quicker. The plug in harness fit my truck and was very easy to install. I have only one suggestion, and it is a minor one at that. The kit does not contain a mounting bracket for the vehicle plug itself, so a little time was spent fabricating one to mount the plug. Again this is a minor suggestion and will not keep me from visiting your website and/or making any purchases in the future. Thanks for a great product !!! Tony

I have a 2004 f150, (not a heritage).
I
ordered the wire harness and bracket to mont.
Guess what?
The harness does not plug into the 4 way.
There are two connections. The main 7 way connection plugs in but the 4 way connection on the harness does not fit the truck's 4 way.
O, the mounting bracket that is recommended for this harness also does not worked at all.
Only one hole in the mounting bracket lines up.
Total waste!

The wiring harness actually plugs inline at the point where the factory 4-pole trailer connector plugs into the vehicles wiring harness on the drivers side frame member on the drivers side frame rail. Follow the factory 4-pole from the bumper until the connector is found. Unplug that connection plug the # 118247 inline.

I have just got around to installing the wire harness and it is not the correct one. I had to order it from the dealer.
It was the 4L3Z 13A576 BA.
I think you part finder might be wrong on this one.

The 2004 Ford F150 was a split model year. Ford actually sold two different vehicles as a 2004 F150, the 2004 F150 and the 2004 F150 Heritage. The Heritage was identical to the 2003 model, while the 2004 F150 used the new body style. The different trucks used different part number trailer connectors, the Heritage used # 118242 and the F150 used # 118247.

2004 Ford F-150

Well I suppose if you are mounting the 7-pin to your bumper this is a 5-star product. The only reason I'm giving it 4-stars is because I wanted to mount the 7-pin in my truck bed for a 5th wheel (2004 Ford F-150).

I knew when I purchased this item that the cabling for the 7-pin would not be long enough to do this. I had to cut this portion of the cable and extend all 7 wires about 2 feet, then re-wrap the cabling. Once this was done, it's a perfect product for in-bed mounting.

One CAN purchase an extension for the 7-pin but it's $43 as I recall. I URGE etrailer to create this exact setup with a longer 7-pin for applications such as mine. I can't possibly be the only one doing this.

Other than that, great product, great service, no issues at all.

This is exactly what I needed and couldn't find it any where in my local area, not even at a trailer dealer. The product was very easy to install and worked as expected without complications of any kind. I love the product and was glad that it's what was needed to make the transition. The web site video provided adequate information pertaining to the product and how to install it with ease. Thank You!

by:
2004 Ford F-150

I have not installed the product yet. The wiring harness , connectors and instructions seem to make the brake wiring job I need to do very easy. It will turn a difficult job into a easier project than I thought.

by:

I looked and asked around everywhere for a seven pin plug. People wanted to charge me a couple hundred bucks to install it. I saw this video on youtube and went to the website and ordered it on the spot. Easy to install. Took five minutes. I wish it would have came with mounting bracket, but other than that, AWESOME!!!!! Definitely recomend this sight!

by:

I didn't install it, but ordered exactly what my mechanic needed. Installed at the shop in a couple of hours and pulled my new rv home the next day. All lights are a go, brakes work great.

by:
2004 Ford F-150

The mount braket for the 7 way pin was not the correct size for the 7 way plug, I had to drill one hole just to get two screws in it.
The mounting braket with the clap, well the screw fell out of the clamp and I could not figure out how to put in back in and make it work.

by:
2004 Ford F-150

I installed the items I orderd on a 2004 Ford F150 without factory trailer package.
The items etrailer.com suggested to buy fit perfect and work perfect. They were easy to install considering the truck is 8 years old. Some rust to deal with.
I would give etrailer.com two thumbs up.

by:
2004 Ford F-150

Great video directions. Easy to install. Clipped right into the existing truck wiring and the 4 prong dealer installed plug still functions.

by:

It attaches to your F-150 with included hardware. The Curt Trailer Hitch item # 13357 is a class III hitch, with a 2" receiver, that is made in the USA. It has a 6,000 lbs towing...

2004 was a split model year for the Ford F150. Two F150 models were offered, the Heritage which was the rounded body style like the 2003 model or the new body style, like the 2005 model. The hitch you need will depend on which body style your truck is. If you have the new body style, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class III hitch, part # 41549. • Will Tekonsha Wiring for 2004 Ford F-150 Provide Power to 7-Way and 4-Way
The Tekonsha # 118247 doesn't have a 4-Way connector but if you swapped out the 7-Way for something like part # 30955 then yes, the Tekonsha wring would provide power to both the 7-Way and the 4-Way for your 2004 Ford F-150. Basically as long as the 4-Way is connected after the Tekonsha wiring then it will receive power. Attached is an installation video of this kit on a 2004 F-150 for you to check out.

Although the # 30717 will work, I have a better suggestion for you. If your F150 is the New Body style, use part # 118247. If you have the Old Body style, use # 118242. Either connector will plug inline with your existing trailer connector, allowing you to retain the function of your existing 4-pole. Either kit includes the necessary fuses and relays to activate the remainder of the tow package circuits. Granted, this is a more expensive option, but it will be a very quick and easy plug-and-play...
