Installing a 7-Way Trailer Connector to Power a Trailers Brakes on a 2005 F-150 STX with a 4-way

Question:

Are there any connectors that I do not have to splice into? I was hoping for a plug-and-play harness to add a 7-way connector for a trailer with brakes. The Tekonsha 118247 will not fit an 2005? Thanks,

If your 2005 Ford F-150 did not have a 7-way trailer connector from the factory then there, unfortunately, is not a connector to plug in an aftermarket 7-way. The # 118247 is only designed for the 2004 F-150.

You can use the adapter # 37185 to convert your 4-way to a 7-way but you'll still need to connect the wiring. On some F-150s the brake circuit is already run along the frame rail but not all. And it can be difficult to locate even when it is. So we recommend using our # ETBC7 kit anyway. This includes the 4-way to 7-way adapter and all of the wiring you'll need to make the 7-way fully functioning. I've linked a video that shows the # ETBC7 being installed on a newer F-150 but the process is basically the same.

Even though your truck doesn't have a factory 7-way it does have a connector under the dash for an electric brake controller to plug in. I recommend using the Prodigy P3 # 90195. It's one of the highest rated controllers we offer. To install it in your truck's cab use # 3035-P. This plugs right into that connector your dash. I've included a video of this install as well.
