What you will need in order to convert your 4 pin connector to a 7 pin connector on your 2008 Ford F-150 is Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole part # 37185. This adapter will allow you to use a 7 pin trailer connector and have the option to use a 4 pin if you needed to.
All you would have to do is connect your vehicles 4 pin connector to the 4 pin connector from the back of the 4 Pole to 7 Pole Adapter part # 37185 then ground the white wire from the adapter if you do not need the additional functions that a 7 pin connector offers over your vehicles 4 pin connector and you would be ready to go.
If you want to have the full functional capabilities of what the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole part # 37185 offers you will need to do some minor wiring. You would need to run the blue wire from the adapter to the output wire on your brake controller. The black wire would need to be run to a 12 volt power source with a 40 amp circuit breaker like the Pollak Circuit Breaker - Cycling/Automatic Reset - 40 Amp - Straight Mount Bracket part # PK54540. The purple wire could be used as an auxiliary wire for a 12 volt power source, like a reverse light or a reverse lockout for trailer brakes.
Use Jacketed 2 Wire, 10 Gauge, Brake Wire - part # 10-2-1, to simplify the wiring for two functions. You may also need 10 Gauge Blue Primary Wire part # 10-1-1.
