Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Plug and play harness made install very simple. Only other wiring required was routing wire to battery. Good product, well worth the money

by:

I had no problems self installing the harness. The harness works perfectly with my trailer / 2015 Ford Escape Titanium.

by:

They were a great product and installation was pretty easy. I was able to install the receiver by myself with the help of a good floor jack. The only problem I had with the wiring harness was trying to fish it up between the quarter panel into where it connects to the light was pretty tight but got it accomplished. Thank you.

Overall, the hitch is robust and installed properly. The final fit to the vehicle is perfect. There is proper clearance to the bumper and exhaust. Aside from having to slightly bend one area of the mounting to make installation possible everything went as planned. The installation instructions for the hitch and wiring kit were correct and helpful. The method provided to fish the fasteners thru the frame rails is awesome. The vehicle wiring kit was very well made and thought out. The fit and connections were perfect.
Pic # 1 Side plates that fit over outsides of frame rails were not to spec at the front. The inside dimension was 39.75". The frame rails are 40.50 outside to outside. The front of the plates required some bending before installation.
Pic # 2 I welded a 1/4" thick plate to an old Floor Jack to lift the hitch into place because I had no help. I then bolted the hitch to the plate.
Pic # 3 Another view of the hitch mounted to the plate.
Pic # 4 Shows the 2014 Escape on Jack Stands with about 2" clear under tires. Also shows how I set the hitch onto the floor jack using an overhead hoist.
Pic # 5 Shows how to attach chains to the hitch for lifting with a hoist or chain fall.

After reviewing the installation video my son and I installed the 75758 hitch and 118566 wiring harness on my 2014 Ford Escape. The install was very easy. Others review that stated to install the wiring harness first was spot on. That made installing the harness much easier. I am very pleased with how the hitch is only slightly visible.

by:

I was very impressed with quality of your service and the wiring harness. It was at my house in four days.
It took me a few hours to install but I had to remove some very ugly wiring done by a dealer, your product was a very clean install.

by:
2014 FordEscape

Hitch was as described. The installation went well and I was working alone so I had to use a jack to help get the hitch into position.

Hitch looks good and will work well with my Kuat Bike rack and Holmes Trailer.

Thanks,

Chuck

Best made trailer hitch on the market today, I put this trailer hitch on myself with the video on my iPad (easy step by step instructions). Took me a couple of hours to install hitch and wiring harness. Loved how it tucked up under my Ford Escape and all you see is the receiver end of the hitch. Use it today to haul a utility trailer and boat to my favourite fishing holes. Best value for a well built hitch. Thanks e-trailers for the speedy shipping (free by the way) and great product. Have recommended your product to everyone that asked where I got the hitch from. Thanks again. I am sure your product will last longer than this vehicle, and I know I will definitely order your product on my up and coming vehicle purchases.

by:

This is a replacement, first one lasted 3 years. Kind of too pricey for me but what are you going to do if you need it.

Everyone at Etrailer was extremely helpful and quickly let me know about the hitch that was on back order, and offered other solutions. I was set on this particular hitch (and was able to find it elsewhere), but Dena was very nice about changing my order to just the wiring harness and the ball mount kit. They arrived quickly, and all of the parts were were there, for a seamless install. A great company to work with, and I expect that I'll be ordering from them again. Thank-you!!

I recently used my hitchwiring harness and everything went smoothly. Thank-you again!! And this was for a 2013 Ford Escape

by:

Overall, this worked well and I probably saved myself $300-$400 over what the dealer would have charged. The driver side (yellow) wire setup was shorter than I would have liked. I didn't measure it, but it was so short it left me only one location to install the controller box. I would have preferred to put it somewhere else, but I was limited because that config was so short. The video that goes with this harness was very helpful, but as with everything, it's a lot harder to do that it looks. Routing the connectors up through the rear paneling was a challenge. The connectors are pretty big (they have to be) and the places to push them through are pretty small. Then, routing the power wire from the rear up to the battery while keeping it out of the way of the wheels, shocks, springs, and exhaust was another big challenge. It can be done, but give yourself some time to think it through and come up with a plan. Overall, I'd do this again. I'd rather save a few hundred and just deal with a little aggravation. I'm going to buy another harness from them soon for a different vehicle. Great company to deal with.

Still solid - and often drive for miles on a gravel road

Great product - it would have been easier to install the wiring first and then the hitch. The installation video is priceless. Having access to a car lift will greatly speed up the process, I had to crawl around on the cement under my Escape with the front end up on ramps - slow going and painful getting up and down. Also having a SMALL power drill will make working in tight space a lot easier to drill and mount the ground wire. System is up and working perfectly on first try!

Everything is working well. I have had no problems or complaints. Although the hitch blocks the tailgate hands-free sensors on the Escape, I can still find several spots that will still allow hands-free operation of the tailgate even with the hitch installed. As always, you have provided excellent products that work as advertised and installed without modification!

by:
2014 FordEscape

Haven't had the chance to try it out yet, but, Installation sure wasn't as easy as the instructions led me to believe. I ended up having my mechanic do it and he had to remove the rear bumper to feed the wiring harness out of the Escape. he also had to route a separate power line from the battery. This ended up costing me more than the hitch and the harness combined. Sure hope it holds up.

Well, its a year later and spring is here. After cleaning the green corrosion off the contacts every thing is fine. The cover isnt as protective as I thought it would be. Just like all electrical devices this one needs maintenance. Still working though and that a good sign.

by:
2013 FordEscape

I found the directions for the T-One Wiring Harness installation to be pretty inadequate. And, the short hot wire from the transformer made it virtually impossible to attach the transformer anyplace that was recommended or with the wire side "down" as instructed. So, it's hanging free behind the muffler. And I had to take it to a trailer shop to get someone to make a working "ground". All in all, disappointing. Another 10 inches of wire would have saved me hours of sweat and frustration.

1/30/2015

After the hassle to get the wiring installed, it has worked satisfactorily, with no problems.

by:
2013 FordEscape

Harness was pretty easy to install until you get to the power wire that goes to the battery. I installed it on my 2013 Ford Escape and there was not many good places to mount the wire (had to drill a few holes to zip tie). Not a fault of the harness! Other than that, very well made, nice plug and play.

Both products are still working great. Im still very satisfied with the hitch and wiring. Thank you.

I installed the wiring harness months ago and finally used it recently when pulling my boat. The directions for installing the harness (I followed the videos etrailer had available online and the available Instruction document) were easy to follow and made installation easy and it works great.

Hitch for 2016 Escape. Very easy install did not require modifications to exhaust. Toughest part was running wiring to battery mid-way under car. Video showing install was very helpful - how to best fish wires through subframe.

The unit is excellent, Except that the wires for the left turn and brake are to short , could use 6 more inches of length, plus the tape that secures the unit to the truck is not good, does not hold.

The installation was easy! The receiver is made well and the wiring kit made the installation process a piece of cake.

2014 Escape. My Escape has a fuse box in rear cargo area. This box has a trailer accessories terminal F27 I believe. Ran hot wire to this rather than up front (much easier) works fabulous. Couldn't be more pleased with product and install video on Youtube.

Just a quick note, we recommend running the hot lead straight to the positive side of the battery, to avoid overloading your electrical system.

So I installed this kit on my 2014 Ford Escape St, the module keeps blowing out, and I keep on having to replace the module in order to get full functionality back to my trailer lighting.

If youre losing multiple taillight converter harnesses, typical cause is a short circuit somewhere in the trailer wiring itself. Trace each circuit rearward from the trailer connector back to its lamp. Look for loose connections or pinched wires or cracked and worn wire insulation. Anything that would allow the bare copper inside the wiring to short out to the trailer frame. Once the short is located and repaired, you should stop continually needing to replace the taillight wiring harnesses. Ill link you some wiring help articles that you might find helpful.

  • Splicing New Taillight Converter Into T-1 Connector on 2013 Ford Escape
You could use a non-vehicle specific powered converter like # C59496 and splice it into the current t-connector and 12-volt feed. Typically a taillight converter will go bad because of a short in the trailer wiring, so before replacing the converter you'll want to closely examine the wiring on your trailer. Start at the trailer connector and follow each circuit back to the lamps. Look for pinched wires, loose connections, cracked or worn wire insulation-anything that would let the copper...
