Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the Demco hydraulic drum break actuator with the eight inch adjustable channel down position and has an 8,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer's brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically, what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and the momentum will push the trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. So with surge brake systems the actuator is then triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down.

And when that happens, this actuator the part up front here, will actually contract into the outer casing and it applies force to the master solanoid that's in the back here, and this in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes. Now, this actuator actually uses an Acetyl Copolymer lining in the inside, provides a nice, smooth operation as the actuator telescopes in and out. This one you can see up front has the adjustable channel, has three different mounting positions for your coupler. Now the coupler is not included. We do sell that separately.

And as you can see, this is a channel down design, so when you do install your coupler, it allows for a greater drop. Few measurements on the channel itself, the height bottom to the top is right at eight inches tall. The inside width, Three inches wide. Now this is a heavy duty steel construction, has a nice zink plated finish on it for better corrosion resistance. Meets a 200 hour salt spray rating.

Right back here is the master cylinder. Now a master cylinder is a composite master cylinder. It's very durable and efficient. It is a glass reinforced nylon construction which will resist rust and corrosion. And the master cylinder does have a large reservoir which provides increased capacity for brake fluid.

Also uses at the top here you can see an automotive style diaphragm cap which creates a completely enclosed system to help prevent contamination of your brake fluid. This does also include this breakaway cable, and the hook with the latch on it. And this breakaway cable is required by law. Basically it helps prevent a trailer runaway situation. What happens is when you attach your trailer to your tow vehicle, you take this hook with the latch on it and attach that also to the tow vehicle. And then, by chance, if this would disconnect from your tow vehicle it would pull this cable, which would move the lever and that would apply the hydraulic pressure in your master cylinder. And that'll apply the brakes to keep the trailer from a runaway situation. So again, it is required by law. Now this is a bolt on installation, but it does mount to a straight three inch wide trailer tongue. This part is made in the USA. Application, this is for trailers with hydraulic drum brakes. Gross towing weight capacity is 8,000 pounds. Maximum tongue weight capacity of 800 pounds. And one last note I do wanna mention on this actuator, because this actuator does not have a reverse lockout on the back here, it is recommended that you equip the trailer with either a reverse lockout solenoid, which will install into the master cylinder right back here, or that your trailer has free backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.
