Surge-type actuator features a corrosion-resistant composite master cylinder and a primed finish. 8" Adjustable channel lets you mount different coupler attachments (sold separately) in 1 of 3 positions. Welds onto a 50-degree A-frame trailer.

Note: Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.
When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.
Adjustable Channel Design
The adjustable channel on this trailer brake actuator allows for ultimate versatility. Mount almost any type of coupler (sold separately) - from a standard ball coupler to a lunette ring or clevis attachment - to fit your specific application. In addition, the 3 mounting positions on the channel let you adjust the height of the coupler. Just place the coupler so that it matches the height of the ball mount or other hitch attachment on your tow vehicle and you will be able to tow your trailer levelly.

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number DM8102222. This is the Demco hydraulic brake actuator for a-frame couplers with a primed finish and adjustable channel center. The hydraulic actuator is going to activate your trailer's brakes when the tow vehicle slows down or stops. It's going to have the adjustable channel that's going to have three different mounting positions for the coupler. Couplers are going to be sold separately but you would have position one, position two, and position three. The rough measurements for that channel is about 3" in width here at the opening and 8" in length there from top to bottom. This is going to contain a master cylinder that's made from a composite material so it's going to be very durable and efficient.
It's going to feature glass-reinforced nylon construction that's going to resist rust and corrosion as well as a really nice large reservoir here at the back that's going to provide increased capacity for the brake fluid. To gain access to that reservoir all you have to do is unthread the cap. This is going to be an automotive-style cap that's going to create a completely enclosed system. That's a great feature to have because it's going to help prevent contamination of the fluid. Also here on the very back you're going to have the portion that you're going to connect the brake line to.
It's going to be that right there. It's got a nice protective cap over it so it doesn't get damaged during shipping or anything like that. The breakaway kit is included on this system. It's going to have the hook that's going to attach to your vehicle, and then it's got the nice little keeper there to ensure that it doesn't become disconnected unless that cable gets pulled tight and then it needs to activate or actuate the brakes. That is included. The pins right here are going to be what holds on this adjustable channel.
Those are already installed. They have the cotter pins here on the other side. This is made from a heavy duty steel construction. It's got the nice primed finish on it and it is a weld-on installation. This is diagnosed for 50-degree a-frame trailers with hydraulic drum brakes.
This system is going to provide a gross towing weight of 12,500 pounds with a max tongue weight of 1,250 pounds. Again, that channel width is going to be approximately 3" here on the inside by 8". The model number is DA10. Keep in mind that because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brake system. The adjustable channel on this trailer brake actuator is going to allow for ultimate versatility. You can mount almost any type of coupler; that's going to be sold separately. You can mount anything from a standard ball coupler to a lunette ring or a clevis attachment to fit your specific application. All you have to do is place the coupler so that it matches the height of the ball mount or other hitch attachment on your tow vehicle. Then you'll be able to tow your trailer levelly. That's a great system to have in place, really efficient and effective. That's going to do it for our review of part number DM8102222. This is the Demco hydraulic brake actuator for a-frame couplers. .
