This portable video camera syncs with your iOS device to create a backup camera system for your vehicle. Download the free RamCam app and place your smartphone or tablet in the included stand. The camera attaches to your vehicle with rare earth magnets so that you can easily reposition it. The RamCam app allows you to rotate your view, record video, and take screenshots that can be saved to your phone or tablet. And when the sky turns dark, you can turn on the camera's light from your device without leaving the comfort of your vehicle.
Traditional rearview mirrors don't provide a complete view of the area behind you, and drivers often cannot see areas close to the vehicle and below their mirrors. Adding this backup camera helps you increase your area of vision while you're driving in reverse. It sends mirror-image video to your smartphone or tablet in your vehicle so you see an image that is consistent with your rearview and side mirrors, with the additional benefit of being able to see objects, people, or animals that are lower to the ground than your vehicle's mirrors.
When you want to use the camera, just mount and position it on your vehicle's metal body panel and twist the cover to reveal the lens and the light. This light helps illuminate the area around the camera, and you can turn the light on and off with the RamCam app. You can also pivot the camera down on its base to create a better viewing angle.
You can mount the camera near the license plate for a better view while backing up your vehicle. Or use the camera to see parking space lines or to better determine the distance to another vehicle's bumper while parallel parking. You can also align your trailer hitch and coupler by yourself, without getting in and out of your vehicle or asking someone to assist you. Or use this camera in your truck bed to get a better view while hitching up a fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailer. For improved views while rock crawling, mount the camera on a fender.
Three rare earth magnet feet let you mount the camera on your vehicle's tailgate or on any other metal spot on the body. Each powerful magnet has 15 lbs of pull, so the camera is mounted securely. Felt covers on the magnets protect your vehicle from getting scratched. And because the base uses magnets rather than permanent mounting, relocating the camera to another spot on your vehicle or to another vehicle is easy. The camera's magnetic feet let you detach the unit and store it in your vehicle's glove compartment.
The built-in dust cover twists closed to protect the lens, light, and USB outlet when you are not using the camera.
When the camera is turned on, it creates its own Wi-Fi hot spot that works anywhere, regardless of cellular service and without the need for radio frequencies. As long as your iOS phone or tablet has Wi-Fi capability, you can use the system.

It took a few minutes of tinkering to get good views because printed instructions are limited and I did not bother to read more online, just learned by doing.
Worked great to line up my hitch ball and trailer coupler when I was ready to leave camp. Just have to remember to remove it from tailgate before pulling out.
Whenever I have needed anything from etrailer they are always there to help with a product exspecially Amy E. I have talked to her in the past on her recommendation and she has never steered me wrong. She not only helped me with the mirrors and camera but with a new Kurt 5th wheel hitch that I purchased and installed myself.

We are very happy with this camera. We use it on my husbands truck for our boat and camper hook-ups and it’s a dream. Trying to back up to a trailer or boat when you have no one to assist you can be quite trying, but with this camera it makes it so easy. One of the best features is the mobility factor of this camera, being able to move it from vehicle to vehicle or to the back of the trailer so my husband doesn’t hit the fence is wonderful. He's also puts it on the stationary object and then watches for the truck to get close. Very versatile piece of equipment. If I didn't already have a camera in my car we would be the proud owner of two RAM cameras.
I haven't used the camera for backing yet, but got it connected to my iPhone and iPad to try it out. Good picture, and the camera sticks to my tailgate and bumper well, with the felt 'feet' preventing scratches. My only complaint is the on/off switch is small and slightly recessed, making it challenging to switch with fat fingers and short fingernails.
I placed order with etrailer on 3/14 and received a phone call from them on 3/15 - a Sunday - telling me the item was back-ordered and might not ship until early or mid April, giving me the option to cancel. I didn't cancel, and received the camera April 1.

As to the quality of the product it's not bad but could be better! I like the fact that there are no wires to to mess with. Easy to hook up and easy to connect to you mobile device. The price was in the range that I was willing to spend so the next level above this device gets in to the $200.00 range. Will see how it holds up!

I originally had higher expectations for this product. One of three magnet pads broke off for no apparent reason. The video is not high quality so positioning the camera so that you get a good view is a challenge. Spend a little more money and get a higher quality camera. Works but is not real high quality. Made in China!
I needed something to back my tow vehicle up to my travel trailer and to then be able to attach to the trailer when I am backing into a campsite. This fits the bill perfectly. Very easy to set up and very clear picture. The app that has to be downloaded has many good features. Etrailer's shipping was fast, the tracking information is great. They have become my go-to source for everything I need for this new camper.

How does it work for backing up at night?
Easy set up. Not a great picture on iphone. Tablet will be better. Have not used with travel trailer yet. Hoping wifi is strong enough to reach from rear of 40' trailer to driver. Need better mounting system: lanyard, bungees, Velcro, etc. Would not trust the magnets.

It’s been replaced as it stopped connecting.
Performance is not reliable unless the camera is in line if sight with my phone. Tends to freeze up which, for me, is a deal-breaker. When I am backing up to the trailer it stops updating and I can’t tell how far I am from the trailer tongue.
Very good video and decent audio. After downloading the app from the app store on my I Phone I simply connected to it once in settings and it now recognizes the camera at power up. Picture quality is good and the adjustable head on the camera unit is helpful. It will also swivel 360 degrees as well as tilt up and down. The magnetic base is good on most metal but not aluminum or stainless. I purchased this to use for loading my car on a trailer and hooking up a boat and it does that really well but see many other uses. I have not tested the range but it has worked perfectly during loading and hooking up. I turn on the unit and place the magnet base and camera on my tailgate and angle it towards the boat so i can see the hitch ball and the trailer hitch as I back up, it works great.I would recommend this product but keep in mind it is in a plastic housing and while very functional it is not made to be a highly durable product like a Go Pro.
With a little care this can be a great camera that you can easily view on you phone. I am very pleased with this unit and would purchase again.

Its just ok. The picture is a little grainy, lacks depth for judging distance, camera picture settings are difficult, and the connection is in and out to the back of my 30' gooseneck flat deck with my phone in hand, hanging out the window. I sat the camera 25' back at the top of the dovetail, so maybe 35' from driver's seat to camera. Empty trailer so nothing but gooseneck frame in the way, barely.
The built in light is fairly bright, which makes up for difficult picture settings, which is entirely the fault of the app. You have to pull up the settings menu, which takes over the whole screen, make a picture adjustment, click "save", and then go back to see if the setting is correct. Rinse, repeat. There is no "default" picture setting or "auto adjust" capability. You could literally spend an hour trying to get a good picture.
The magnetic mount is nice and keeps it secure to steel. Not gonna work if you have a late model Ford. I won't test this out at highway speeds though. The camera mount holder thing is fairly useless. It has no mounting base to keep it secure so it will slide all over, tip, drop the phone, etc. Its just a plastic A-frame basically. There is no wall charger, so use your own or charge in vehicle only. Overall, I'm not that impressed. It ranks right there with one of those Chinese special camera app bore scopes that you can get on special for $18 online. I have one of those too, so I can compare.
I ordered the Rampage Wireless Backup Camera after reading the write-up on etrailer. Thought it sounded like just the ticket. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond the control of etrailer or the supplier, delivery was delayed for over 3 months. During that time however I was given regular updates from etrailer to let me know I had not been forgotten. Once the camera was in stock I was notified immediately and arrangements were made to ship. Setup of the camera was painless and straight forward and results were amazing. I mounted the camera on my trucks tailgate and proceeded to back the trucks hitch up under the trailer perfectly the first attempt. It was like being in two places at the same time. The greatest detail of the Rampage camera is it can be used just about anywhere for just about anything you need a closer look at. Great product sold by one of the best on-line suppliers in the business. E trailer is my favorite place to shop on-line for anything related to my truck or rv's.
Really great value for the money. The range is really good. I can mount the camera on the back of my trailer when backing up and the reception has no problem. The camera's use at night is poor compared to the backup camera's on new cars. The iPhone app is a little annoying that I have to turn on the camera, go to Settings on my phone and select the camera's Wifi, then open up the app. If I don't go to Settings first, it won't connect with the camera. Just seems like an extra unnecessary step that could be cleaned up.
Some wish lists for Rampage's next (and more expensive) camera would be:
- fish eye type lens option (the wide angle lens isn't as wide as vehicle standard equipment backup cameras)
- night vision adjustment
- water resistant enclosure so camera can be used in light rain (the dial blocks camera when trying to protect the USB port and switch). A piece of tape works in a pinch but you have to remove it to turn off the camera
- different mounting base options
For the simplicity and price though, I have not found a camera that competes with this.
The camera has been great right out of the box . It was purchased to be used with our RV as a hitch camera and rear view camera . I've used it on a couple of small trips , so far it has worked great with little or no interference . There is only one small problem that the video can't be viewed by anything but the RamCam app . Solve that and I'll be able to use it for security also . I've been looking for a backup camera for a few years as there wasn't one installed in my car . This camera fills many purposes . Great value for a small price .
I've had for a year, used maybe ten times.
+) Camera was relatively EZ to set up, works with iPhone and iPad. Has a cover that slides over lens and controls. Works OK to position trailer tongue once u get used to it.
(-) overpriced, even on sale. Controls are too small, need to work with a fingernail. Magnets are WAY too weak to hold on tailgate. Does not appear very rugged at all. Need to recharge every week or so if u don't use so almost have to plan use in advance.
Bottom line: functional but there are better units available.
The Ram Cam is just what I have been looking for. I plan to use it on our small camping trailer to help back into camping sites. I can't wait to get one that works.
The first one would not turn on. The second one worked, but the camera lens was not aligned with the hole in the case, so the right side of the picture was missing.
I am looking forward to receiving my third Ram Cam. Hope the third time is a charm.
Ram Cam seems to have a quality control problem. One other comment, my finger nails are not long enough or small enough to use the the on-off switch. I have to use a knife on nail file.
etrailer has done a excellent job of accepting returns and trying to get me a working Ram Cam.
I have no issues with the backup camera. It had helped me line up to my goosenecks and 5th wheel many a time. It’s easy to use, connect to your device, I’ve used two different iPhones with no issues.
Junk. One of three mounting pads was broken when taken out of the box. Same issue noted in video review of product.
I received my Rampage Wireless backup camera today. I'd already downloaded the app to my iphone so all I needed to do was charge the camera and then link it to the wifi on my phone. Even after powering off the phone the system remembers the pass word using it in the future will be just to turn it on and watch on my phone.
I got this to maneuver my 18' trailer in the paddock area. There are lots of other more expensive trailers and race cars parked here and there and to have the comfort of backing up knowing what I might be getting close to is definitely a stress reliever.
I bought this as a gift for my son to help him hitch his equipment trailer alone. In terms of function, I think it will be perfect because I tried it out but haven't given it to him yet - a birthday present ... On the down side, it feels pretty cheap since it is all plastic. The dust cover doesn't slide very well and at first, I thought I was going to break it but it did slide finally.
I would have paid more for a device that was made of better quality materials and, given the materials used in this unit, I think this unit was pricey but if it reliably does the job for my son, I'll be satisfied. Stay tuned ...

Works great and as expected. I was backing up to hook up to my camper one day. An onlooker thought he would help by directing me with hand signals. I planted the ball directly under the hitch perfectly and first try of course. (Using ram cam)The onlooker commented on how good he was at directing and hand signals. I didn't have the heart to tell him otherwise. Lol
Camera works as advertised and the free phone app has some good features. My only recommendation would be to use better/stronger magnets. There is no way I would leave this attached to my vehicle if I were driving more than a few feet to back up to the trailer. I had hoped that I could leave it attached and use it as a back up camera on my truck while I'm driving down the road. Ideally I wish they made a "port" that could be permanently attached to the vehicle and the camera inserted into it. That way you could attach the camera and leave it on the truck, or trailer, all the time, and just remove it when you need. Would be much more reliable than three magnets.
But these magnets won't hold if you hit a slight bump. But the image is good and the app works flawlessly. So it's well worth the price.
