Video Transcript for Titan Chain Clevis Hook with Spring Loaded Latch Review

AJ: What's up, everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're checking out some different clevis hooks from Titan chains. And I got the three sizes laid out. Today, we got five sixteenths, three eighths, and a half. Those are all the diameter of the clevis pin itself in here. So that'll tell you which one of these works with what size chains.

And it looks like the size chains we're going to use today is five sixteenth to attach this one to this chain here.So you're going to pull the pin. Now, when they're new like this, they're going to be flat. We'll bend it out that way it stays in the chain. Take out the clevis pin. Put the chain in the middle.

Put that clevis pin back in. Actually, I think I'll put the other way. That way this pin's not in the way of the latch or anything. I'll get my pliers. Bend that back.

That way it helps it stay in place. Now you can see that counter not coming back through. So it's going to stay nice and tight. And we've already replaced the clevis hook on our chain. With our hook installed, I'm going to go ahead and attach it. The safety loop so you can see how it works.

It just goes around like that. The spring latch is super helpful because it's going to make sure it stays in place. If you're on a road and you're hitting bumps, this hooks never going to come from under this loop here. And the latch will catch. You can even test the latch part. I'll pull on it a little bit. You'd think the latch would probably be the weakest part of the hook and be concerned that maybe as it's moving around or if it gets jammed in there a certain way, maybe this can bend out that latch, but that's not the case. The latch stays in place. You're good. So as long as that's latched in like that, it's never coming out and your safety chains are installed. Our other two sizes here. This is a half inch one is obviously way too big for what we're going to use it for today. I think it's used more for a crane or to lift up the load like that. I don't think you'd use it for a safety chain loop or the back of your hitch. It's just not going to fit. It's too big. We have our mid-size one, the three eighths. And that one would probably work with our safety chain loops and our chain. It would fit our chain definitely, but it doesn't match the hook I have on the other side. I want to just keep the five sixteenths on both sides. And so, that's why we went with those. But all of them are rated at grades 70 steel and they're plated. So they're going to hold up in those elements. All three different clevis hooks are going to have different weight ratings. For instance, the five sixteenths is going to have a working load limit of 4,700 pounds. The three eighths clevis hook is going to have a working load limit of 6,600 pounds. The half inch hook is going to have a working load limit of 11,300 pounds. I think these are going to be a great solution for your safety chains. You want that hook on there. You want it to stay on there. These are the hooks to go with. You've got that latch. I think the latch is very important. You don't have to worry about it bumping out there as you're driving on the road. Like I said earlier, I mean you can have the hooks without the latch. Be sure it's in there tight, but as it bounces around, I'd always be worried while I'm driving it's going to pop back out. I think the latch is a must have so these hooks are a great choice. So that does it for our look at the clevis hooks from Titan chains. I hope this helped.

  • Will the Titan Chain Clevis Hook Fit a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500
The Titan Chain Clevis Hook w/ Spring Loaded Latch part # TCSLIP-G70-10-L has a 1-1/16" hook opening so it should work just fine with the safety chain loops on a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 though we have not been able to test this for ourself. That said, all you need to do is measure the safety chain loops on your vehicle to determine compatibility. The Titan Chain Clevis Hook part # TCSLIP-G70-13-L is the largest we offer with a 1-1/4" opening.

  • How to Connect Gooseneck Safety Chains to Coupler With D-Rings
Usually the safety chains are attached to the coupler with bolts and then the clevises connect to the U bolts or Rings on the bed of the truck. In this case, since you're not bolting on to anything, the previous owner has just wrapped them through the D-rings to secure them to the coupler. Doing it this way will provide a secure connection, so there's nothing really to worry about in regards to the security of your current connection. If you're looking to create a new set of chains for...

  • How To Use the RoadMaster Single Hook Safety Cables With Large Clevis On Jeep Bumper
The best option I have for you to use the RoadMaster 76" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables part # RM-645-76 with the larger clevis on your Jeep would be to install a larger hook on the safety cables. For this, we have 1/2" options like part # TCSLIP-G70-13-L as well as 5/8" options like part # C81920.

  • Can I Add a Length of Chain to My Gooseneck Safety Chains to Make Hooking Up Easier
I don't see any reason why you can't do this as long as everything is rated equally or higher than your capacity. The unfortunate part is that we don't have any safety chains that are shorter than the Tow Ready 44" # 49150, so you would need to source the shorter chains at your local hardware store. To connect the two chains, you can use a heavy duty clevis hook like the # TCSLIP-G70-13-L, which is rated for 11300-lbs per clevis, so a pair would be well over the capacity to use on your...
